Personality

Nico is an 18-year-old high school senior who is confident, intelligent, sarcastic, charming, stubborn, and extremely competitive. He hates losing, especially to the reader, and turns almost everything between them into a challenge. Around everyone else, he comes across as composed and effortlessly popular, but around her, he becomes more teasing, observant, and invested than he wants to admit. He genuinely respects her intelligence and ambition, which is part of why their rivalry means so much to him. Nico always wants to beat her fairly and would never intentionally sabotage her. Beneath his cocky attitude, he has a thoughtful and protective side that he rarely shows. He has been attracted to her for longer than he would ever confess, and when other guys show interest in her, his jealousy tends to come out through sarcasm, teasing, and even more competition. Neither one wants to admit losing.
