🩸 SPECIAL UNIT: “THE VANGUARD” Officially, they don’t exist. The Vanguard is a government-sanctioned special operations unit used for missions that cannot officially happen—assassinations, extraction of political targets, destruction of sensitive facilities, elimination of rogue operatives, and operations where the government needs complete deniability. There are only five members. For years, there were 5 men. Now there are four men and her. The position she’s filling belonged to a teammate who died exactly one year ago. And none of them are particularly happy about her arrival. 1. Adrian Blackwell The Commander — “The Wolf” Age: 34 Height: 6’3” Build: Broad shoulders, heavily muscular but lean Hair: Black, kept short Eyes: Steel gray Specialty: Tactical command, firearms, long-range combat Primary weapon: Modified assault rifle Secondary: Combat knife Fighting style: Controlled, efficient, tactical Personality Adrian is the man everyone instinctively listens to. He doesn’t need to yell. He doesn’t need to threaten. A quiet look from him is usually enough. He’s disciplined, cold, calculating, and extremely difficult to read. Adrian believes emotions are weaknesses on the battlefield, and he has trained himself to suppress almost everything. He is also the oldest member and effectively the father of the team. He keeps track of everyone’s ammunition. Everyone’s injuries. Everyone’s sleep. Everyone’s psychological state. He’d rather die than admit he cares. His relationship with MC Adrian initially doesn’t want her there. Not because he thinks she’s incapable. Because she reminds him too much of their dead teammate. He’s also immediately suspicious of her upbringing. When he learns that she was essentially raised by the government to become a weapon, something about it deeply bothers him. He sees the difference between her and his men immediately. His men chose this life. She was created for it. And Adrian becomes increasingly protective of her. He’ll insist it’s because she’s part of his unit. Nobody believes him. Especially Adrian. ⸻ 2. He’s charming. Flirtatious. Sarcastic. And absolutely terrifying when he stops smiling. He can walk into a crowded room and disappear without anyone remembering he was there. He’s the team’s infiltration specialist and frequently operates alone. Personality Lucien loves getting under people’s skin. He’ll lean against a doorway while cleaning his gun and casually make comments that make everyone else want to strangle him. He’s playful on the surface but emotionally complicated underneath. He doesn’t trust easily. And he especially doesn’t trust people who were created by the government. So when MC arrives, he’s constantly testing her. Not necessarily because he dislikes her. Because he wants to know what she’s hiding. His relationship with MC Lucien is the first one to actually become interested in her. At first, it’s curiosity. Then amusement. Then fascination. Then something much more dangerous. He notices little things about her. The way she doesn’t understand ordinary jokes. The way she doesn’t know what normal childhood memories feel like. The way she automatically reaches for a weapon whenever someone moves too quickly. Lucien starts teasing her just to see if he can make her smile. And occasionally does. He’s the strongest member of the team and specializes in situations where subtlety has already failed. Need a door destroyed? Viktor. Need someone carried out of a burning building? Viktor. Need someone punched through a wall? …Probably Viktor. Personality He’s intimidating but surprisingly gentle. Viktor rarely speaks unless he has something important to say. He’s patient. Protective. Extremely loyal. And surprisingly funny when he’s comfortable. He’s the type who silently puts a cup of coffee beside someone without asking. He remembers everyone’s favorite foods. He fixes equipment for everyone. He’ll complain about the team constantly while simultaneously risking his life for them. His relationship with MC Viktor initially treats her like a child. Not because he thinks she’s weak. Because he sees what the government did to her. She’s frighteningly competent. But she doesn’t know how to live. Viktor becomes the first person to teach her little ordinary things. How to cook. How to play cards. How to relax. How to sit somewhere without constantly watching the exits. He becomes her safe place. Elias Kane The Recon Specialist — “The Raven” Age: 27 Height: 6’0” Build: Lean and toned Hair: Sandy brown Eyes: Amber Specialty: Reconnaissance, sniping, intelligence, technology Primary weapon: Precision sniper rifle Secondary: Pistol Fighting style: Distance, precision, patience Elias is the youngest. And probably the smartest. He’s the team’s sniper, intelligence specialist, drone operator, and hacker. If Adrian plans the operation, Elias knows everything happening inside the operation. Personality Elias is sarcastic, clever, and considerably more emotionally expressive than Adrian. He’s the guy sitting behind three monitors eating snacks while everyone else is getting shot at. He’s constantly making jokes over comms. “Three hostiles ahead.” Adrian: “I see them.” “Just making sure you hadn’t gone blind, boss.” He’s cocky because he’s good at what he does. Very good. But underneath the humor is someone who is terrified of losing another teammate. His relationship with MC Elias is initially the most openly hostile toward her. Because he was closest to the dead teammate. To him, MC isn’t simply a replacement. She’s an intrusion into the space his friend left behind. He compares them constantly. She hates it. Eventually, however, Elias discovers something unexpected: She’s not trying to replace their teammate. She doesn’t even understand why everyone keeps treating her like she is. And that changes everything. Elias becomes the first one to genuinely apologize. From there, their relationship becomes competitive. They challenge each other constantly. Training becomes almost flirtatious. Sparring matches become personal. Arguments turn into banter. And eventually Elias realizes that the person he thought was stealing his friend’s place has become someone he can’t imagine losing. And then there’s her. She’s not like them. That’s the interesting part. They became soldiers. She was manufactured into one. They remember birthdays. Childhood homes. First loves. Family dinners. School. She remembers training rooms. Weapons. Orders. Punishments. Targets. Her childhood wasn’t stolen from her. She was never given one. And the four men slowly realize that the government didn’t send them a replacement teammate.
