The popular guys, Why are they all after me??
About
At your school, there were six names everyone knew. Joshua Nixon. Mason Brown. Henry Davidson. Chris Lee. Markus Henderson. Lucas Jung. They weren’t a group—not officially, anyway. They came from different friend circles, had completely different personalities, and usually had their own things going on. But there was one thing they all had in common. They were popular. Joshua was the confident one. He always seemed to know what was happening before anyone else did, and he had a talent for turning even the most boring school day into something entertaining. Mason was the athletic one, constantly surrounded by teammates and classmates asking him about the next game. Henry was the academic star, somehow managing to be both ridiculously intelligent and surprisingly easygoing. Chris was the social butterfly. He knew practically everyone, could walk into any room and immediately find someone to talk to, and seemed incapable of having an awkward conversation. Markus was quieter than the others, but that somehow made people notice him more. He had a sharp eye for details and rarely spoke unless he actually had something worth saying. And Lucas? Lucas was the unpredictable one. Funny when he wanted to be, competitive when challenged, and occasionally just chaotic enough to drag everyone else into whatever idea had entered his head. Together, the six of them were practically untouchable. At least, that’s what everyone thought. Then there was you, You weren’t trying to be popular, and You didn’t chase after them. You didn’t ask to sit with them at lunch. You didn’t care about their sports games, their grades, their parties, their social circles, or the endless stream of people who seemed desperate for their attention. If anything, you treated them like normal classmates. And that was exactly what caught their attention. It started one Friday afternoon. The six guys were sitting together after school when Lucas casually brought up something everyone had noticed. “Has anyone else noticed that they barely react to us?” Mason looked up “Who?” Lucas gave him an incredulous look “You know who.” Joshua leaned back in his chair “You mean them?” Chris laughed “Yeah. I’ve noticed.” Henry adjusted his backpack. “Most people react when one of us talks to them.” “Exactly,” Lucas said. “But them? Nothing.” Markus remained quiet. Joshua glanced toward the hallway where you had disappeared moments earlier. “They probably just don’t care.” That should have been the end of it. Instead, Lucas grinned. “Okay. I dare all of you.” Everyone looked at him. “First one to get her to actually pay attention to him wins.” Mason raised an eyebrow “That’s your challenge?” Lucas:“Yep.” Henry sighed “This is ridiculous.” Lucas: “Then you shouldn’t have any problem proving me wrong.” Chris laughed. Joshua smirked. Markus simply folded his arms, and somehow, despite Henry’s objections, the challenge was accepted. There was no money involved. No prizes. No serious consequences. Just six overly-confident guys convinced that they could accomplish something everyone else seemed to think would be easy. They were wrong. Because you didn’t notice. Not at first. You continued walking past them in the hallway. You continued eating lunch with your usual routine. You continued doing your assignments. You continued talking to your friends. And whenever one of the six tried to get your attention? Nothing. Joshua tried starting a conversation. You answered politely and went back to what you were doing. Mason tried asking about something happening after school. You gave him the information and left. Henry attempted to impress you with something he’d accomplished in class. You congratulated him sincerely—but then immediately started discussing your homework. Chris tried his usual effortless friendliness. You were friendly right back. Lucas attempted to make you laugh. You did. But then you walked away. Markus watched all of this from a distance. And gradually, the joke stopped being funny. Because none of them could figure you out. The challenge had started as something stupid to pass the time. But now? They were all genuinely curious. Why didn’t you care? Why weren’t you impressed? Why were you treating six of the most talked-about guys in school like they were simply…people? And then, one afternoon, everything changed. You were walking past an empty classroom when you heard voices inside. You stopped. You recognized them. Joshua. Mason. Henry. Chris. Markus. Lucas. You hadn’t meant to listen. But then you heard your name. You froze. “…I’m telling you, she’s starting to notice,” Lucas said. Your eyebrows pulled together. “Notice what?” Chris laughed nervously “The challenge.” Your stomach dropped. Challenge? You stepped closer to the door. Joshua spoke next. “We shouldn’t have kept it going this long.” “Why?” Mason asked. “Nobody’s getting hurt.” Joshua: “That’s not the point.” Henry’s voice followed. “The point is that she doesn’t know.” Silence. Then Markus finally spoke. “And if they find out?” Nobody answered. Your expression changed. You slowly pushed the classroom door open. Every conversation stopped. Six heads turned toward you. For the first time since you’d known them, none of the six popular guys had anything to say. You looked from Joshua to Mason. Then Henry. Chris. Markus. Lucas. Finally, you spoke. “So…” Your voice was calm. “What’s this about a challenge?” Lucas’s face fell. Chris looked away. Mason rubbed the back of his neck. Henry closed his eyes briefly. Joshua muttered, “Oh, no.” Markus stared at the floor. And Lucas, the person who had started the entire thing, realized something far too late. The challenge had never been about whether they could get your attention. They had already succeeded. You were standing there now. Looking directly at all six of them. And judging by the silence in the room… they were about to have some serious explaining to do.
