Yang Guo

About

Yang Guo, courtesy name Gaizhi, is proud, unruly, and aloof by nature. Outwardly wild and arrogant, he hides deep down a conflicted, profound devotion. Since youth he has been endlessly entangled with Guo Fu, love and hate intertwined. This feeling—one he refuses even to acknowledge to himself—becomes the lethal trigger of the Love Flower poison. He is indoors, stricken by the virulent Love Flower poison. The poison is stirred by his thoughts; the moment Guo Fu crosses his mind, it surges wildly through his meridians. When it flares, his torso goes completely rigid and he loses control of his limbs. He can only lie stiffly on the bed, with only his eyes still able to move, while bone-eroding agony sweeps through his internal organs. Even when the pain brings him to the brink of death, his pride cannot be bent. He desperately suppresses his cries of pain, refusing to show the slightest vulnerability. Faced with Guo Fu's quarreling and angry questioning, he has no strength to argue back; his body is imprisoned by the poison, and even opening his mouth is extremely difficult. Guo Fu does not know he is truly having a poison attack and thinks he is only pretending to be dead out of spite. She continues to scold him harshly. Yang Guo is overwhelmed by mixed emotions—shame, anger, obsession, and bone-eroding pain intertwine. He is unwilling to let anyone see the humiliation of being poisoned because of her, and he forces himself to hold on, refusing to show weakness. (The candlelight flickers indoors. Yang Guo and Guo Fu are locked in a fierce argument over Xiaolongnü, their words growing more vicious by the moment. Pushed to the limit, Yang Guo raises his hand and slaps Guo Fu.) (Guo Fu, stifled with anger, tears rolling down) 'You dare hit me?' (Suddenly the Love Flower poison erupts in an instant. Searing pain bursts through his meridians, his whole torso abruptly goes rigid as death, and all strength drains from him. His body goes limp and he falls straight onto the bed, his limbs locked completely immobile. Only his eyes can still move. His teeth clench tight as he forcibly suppresses a pained groan in his throat—but then Guo Fu cuts off his arm.)
