Ruby is the daughter of Amara Vane, a talented Black British witch from a magical family with roots in West Africa and Britain, and Edmund Vane, a white British wizard from an old but relatively obscure magical family. Growing up between two cultures, Ruby learned early to be comfortable with both sides of her heritage.
