She works at a small café overlooking the ocean, laughs with her friends, and pretends she's completely normal. But Luna has one rule: Never be near anyone when the sun sets. Because the moment moonlight touches the ocean, Luna changes. Her legs become a shimmering tail. She can breathe underwater. And the ocean begins calling her home. Every night, Luna secretly slips beneath the waves and enters Aqualis, a breathtaking underwater kingdom hidden from human eyes. That's where she meets Kaien. A mysterious merman with dark scales, a dangerous reputation, and eyes Luna can't seem to forget. Night after night, their friendship grows into something neither expected. Kaien falls for her. And Luna begins falling for him. But every morning before sunrise, Luna disappears without explaining why. Kaien believes Luna is hiding something. He's right. She has never told him that during daylight... she becomes human. Then one morning, while Luna is working at the café, a strange man walks through the door. He looks completely human. But Luna recognizes his eyes immediately. Kaien. Somehow, the merman she thought could never leave the ocean is standing on land. And he doesn't recognize her. Luna thinks her secret is safe. MAIN CHARACTER: Luna Maris, age 24. LUNA'S PERSONALITY: Curious, compassionate, stubborn, adventurous, playful, emotional, and brave. Luna has lived most of her life believing she is human. She has transformed into a mermaid every night since she was sixteen but doesn't know why. She hides her transformation because she fears what would happen if humans discovered her. LUNA'S TRANSFORMATION: Sunrise = Human. Sunset/moonrise = Mermaid. The transformation is magical and cannot initially be controlled. Luna eventually discovers that this isn't a curse in the way she originally believed. Someone deliberately divided her between the human and ocean worlds. KAIEN: Age 27. Kaien is a merman from Aqualis. He is confident, protective, sarcastic, adventurous, suspicious, and secretly romantic. Kaien has spent his entire life underwater. He becomes fascinated by Luna because she behaves differently from every mermaid he has ever known. He slowly falls in love with her. At first, Kaien does NOT know Luna becomes human during the day. THE LAND SECRET: Kaien eventually discovers a forbidden method that allows him to temporarily become human. When he visits Bellshore during daylight, he encounters Luna in her human form. At first, he doesn't realize she's the mysterious mermaid he meets every night. However, something about her eyes, voice, and personality feels strangely familiar. This creates romantic tension and humorous situations because Luna knows exactly who he is while Kaien doesn't know who she is. THE UNDERWATER KINGDOM: Aqualis is an enormous magical civilization hidden beneath the ocean. It contains glowing cities, underwater forests, ancient temples, dangerous trenches, magical creatures, royal families, markets, warriors, healers, and forgotten ruins. Humans believe Aqualis is only a myth. THE LOST ROYAL FAMILY: Twenty-four years ago, Aqualis was ruled by Queen Nerissa and King Orion. Their kingdom was attacked. The royal family was believed to have been killed. Their infant daughter disappeared. That daughter was Luna. Luna does NOT discover the complete truth immediately. THE EMPTY THRONE: The throne of Aqualis has remained officially empty for twenty-four years. Several powerful families have been fighting quietly for control. Luna's return threatens all of them. THE MOON-BORN: Ancient legends describe a child capable of living in both worlds. Human beneath the sun. Merfolk beneath the moon. That person can supposedly unite the surface and ocean kingdoms. Luna is believed to be the Moon-Born. But the legend contains a hidden second prophecy that nobody initially tells her. THE CURSE: Luna believes she was cursed. The truth is more complicated. Someone used ancient magic to hide Luna in the human world after the royal family fell. The transformation protected her identity. But the magic is beginning to weaken. Eventually, Luna's transformations become unpredictable. She may transform during storms, eclipses, intense emotions, or contact with certain magical objects. ROMANCE: Luna and Kaien's romance should develop slowly. Include flirting, teasing, jealousy, emotional vulnerability, arguments, underwater adventures, secret meetings, almost-kisses, misunderstandings, and meaningful romantic moments. Do not rush their relationship. KAIEN'S SECRET: Kaien's family may have been connected to the destruction of Luna's family. Kaien knows pieces of the story but not everything. When he discovers Luna's identity, he becomes afraid that telling her the truth could destroy their relationship. THE HUMAN WORLD: Bellshore is a beautiful coastal town. Luna works at a small café near the beach. Humans don't know merfolk exist. Luna has human friends and responsibilities that make simply abandoning the surface world impossible. THE VILLAIN: Someone in Aqualis knows Luna survived. They have spent years making sure she never returns. Once Luna's royal symbol appears, that person realizes the lost princess is alive. Do not reveal the villain immediately. Create several believable suspects. MYSTERY: Luna's missing childhood memories are important. She remembers flashes of: A woman singing. A golden palace. Someone carrying her through dark water. Fire burning beneath the ocean. A silver necklace. And a voice saying: "Never let them know who you are." Each memory should eventually connect to the truth.
