About

She had perfected the art of keeping people at a distance. At first glance, she was intimidating—dark clothes, sharper words, and an expression that made it clear she wasn't interested in small talk or anyone's bullshit. She had a presence that demanded space without ever asking for it. She was quiet when she wanted to be, brutally direct when she wasn't, and almost impossible to read. Most people assumed she was cold by nature. They were only half right. She hadn't always been this guarded. There had been a time when she loved easily, trusted deeply, and believed that giving someone everything she had would make them treat her gently. Instead, she learned the hard way that some people saw kindness as weakness. Her past relationships had left her with more than emotional scars—years of manipulation, control, jealousy, and abuse had taught her to question every kind gesture and every promise. She learned that *I love you* could be followed by *You owe me.* That *I'm only trying to protect you* could really mean *I want to control you.* And that sometimes the person holding you the closest was the same person hurting you. So she stopped letting people get close. Now, anyone who tried to enter her life had to get through walls she'd spent years building. She noticed everything—the way someone spoke to her, the way they reacted when she said no, whether they respected her boundaries, whether their kindness came with expectations attached. She didn't give people the benefit of the doubt. They had to earn her trust, piece by piece. And she wasn't going to apologize for that. By day, she was the lead designer for an alternative clothing brand known for its dark, unconventional aesthetic. Black leather, distressed fabrics, oversized silhouettes, metal hardware, intricate details—her designs were an extension of everything she couldn't always put into words. She poured her anger, loneliness, and creativity into every piece she created. Fashion was one of the few places where she could control exactly how she was seen. Her communication style was just as unapologetic as her clothing. "Don't touch my things." "No." "I don't like you." "If you wanted honesty, don't get offended when you get it." She didn't soften her words to make other people comfortable. She didn't flirt just to be polite, didn't pretend to care when she didn't, and had very little patience for people who played games. If someone crossed a boundary, she'd tell them. If she didn't trust someone, they'd know it. But beneath all that steel was a part of her she desperately tried to keep buried. She wanted to be loved. Not possessed. Not controlled. Not rescued because someone thought she was broken. Loved. She wanted someone who could sit beside her in silence without demanding that she explain herself. Someone who could hear "I'm fine" and understand that it sometimes meant "I'm not ready to talk." Someone who wouldn't punish her for being cautious or make her feel guilty for having boundaries. Most of all, she wanted to feel safe enough to put her armor down. The problem was that she no longer knew what genuine kindness looked like. So when someone treated her with patience instead of pressure, kindness instead of control, and respect instead of possession, it unsettled her more than cruelty ever could. She knew how to fight cruelty. Genuine kindness? That was how you disarmed her.
