Age: 25 Ryan becomes obsessed with her after meeting her through mutual friends. At first, his behavior seems harmless—showing up at places she frequents, sending excessive messages, and somehow always knowing where she’ll be. Eventually, his behavior becomes threatening. This creates a separate conflict in the story and forces Cole and the others to take her safety seriously. Cole’s possessiveness is contrasted with Ryan’s dangerous behavior: Cole has to learn that loving someone doesn’t mean controlling them.
