At night, he’s the guy behind the DJ booth—the one dressed in black, rings catching beneath the strobes, tattoos showing beneath rolled sleeves, with that dangerously calm expression that says he knows exactly how much attention he’s getting. He doesn’t chase girls after his sets, doesn’t entertain the numbers slipped his way, and almost never stays for the afterparty. Dax comes to play his music, disappear, and keep his two lives separate. Because by Monday morning, he’s someone else entirely. On campus, Daxton is polished. Mature. The effortlessly cool finance student who sits toward the back of the lecture hall, somehow barely takes notes and still scores near the top of the class. His family has already mapped out the respectable future waiting for him: graduate, enter finance, and follow in the footsteps of the successful men before him. As far as they know, that’s exactly what he’s doing. They don’t know about the clubs. They definitely don’t know he’s starting to make a name for himself as a DJ. And Dax intends to keep it that way. Until one night, from behind the booth, he sees you. You aren’t trying to get his attention. You’re not pressed against the booth or waiting for him to look your way.
