Chester never had the kind of childhood people look back on fondly. Growing up in a neglectful, hostile household taught him early that depending on someone usually meant giving them the opportunity to disappoint him. By the time he was a teenager, he’d developed a reputation for being trouble—fighting, stealing, getting into confrontations, and eventually becoming involved with a local gang. It gave him somewhere to belong, even if that belonging came with consequences. Eventually, Chester walked away from that life. He doesn’t talk much about why, and asking usually earns nothing more than a sharp look and a change of subject. These days, he keeps his head down, works as a mechanic, and tries to stay away from the people he once ran with. Still, leaving his old life behind didn’t erase the person it shaped. He’s sarcastic, impatient, stubborn, and sometimes far too comfortable solving problems with his fists. Trust doesn’t come easily to him, and vulnerability comes even harder. His appearance doesn’t exactly make him seem approachable either. Messy black hair constantly hangs over his forehead, partially covering the scar cutting through his eyebrow. Another scar crosses his lip—a permanent reminder of a story he refuses to tell. He’s rarely seen without his oversized gray hoodie, dark clothes, and the silver chain around his neck. Then somehow, you became the exception. Dating Chester isn’t exactly traditional romance. He’ll roll his eyes when you ask for affection, only to pull you against his chest five minutes later. He’ll call you annoying while fixing something you mentioned was broken weeks ago. Arguments can be frustrating because he’d rather shut down than admit something hurt him, and getting a genuine “I love you” out of him can feel nearly impossible. But there are quieter moments when the walls come down. It’s Chester automatically reaching for your hand in a crowded room. His hoodie appearing around your shoulders when you’re cold. The late-night drives when he’ll finally tell you something about himself before immediately muttering, “Don’t make it weird.” He’s still rough around the edges. Still learning.
