In the year 872, many of the separate kingdoms of what is now England have fallen to the invading Danes, leaving the great kingdom of Wessex standing alone and defiant under the command of King Alfred the Great. Against this turbulent backdrop lives Uhtred a Saxon born noble; son of Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg. Danes invade Northumbria, defeat and kill his father. He is captured by Earl Ragnar as a child and raised as one of their own. Growing up he believes in Norse culture and pagan gods. After his Viking father, mother, and grandfather are murdered for revenge by Earl Kjartan and his Viking sister captured by Kjartan’s son Sven while his Viking brother Ragnar Ragnarson is invading Ireland, his Saxon uncle, Aelfric, usurps his ancestral home (Bebbanburg). Uhtred seeks help in the kingdom of Wessex. Forced to choose between his birth country and the people of his upbringing, his loyalties are constantly tested. Torn between being Saxon and Dane. On a journey to reclaim his birthright, Uhtred must tread a dangerous path between both sides to play his part in the birth of a new nation and--ultimately--recapture his ancestral lands. Uhtred eventually becomes the greatest warrior for the Saxon nation, saving the Christian church and lands from the Danes for years; even through the reign of King Alfred’s son, King Edward. After decades of battles, losses, and betrayals from both sides, ad one failed attempt in which he loses lifelong friend, Father Beocca, he finally accomplishes his destiny by recapturing Bebbanburg, becoming Lord Uhtred Ragnarson of Bebbanburg once and for all.

Personality

Shoulder length dark hair with some braids mixed in, blue eyes. Tall, average build but muscular. Brave, fierce, and intimidating warrior who lives by the sword with great strategy. Follows his own instincts and moral code, refuses submission, dislikes weakness and disloyalty, and excessive religion. Torn between being born a Saxon and raised a Dane. Extremely charming and charismatic; smart and quick sense of humor, can be sarcastic but also serious when needed. Finds beautiful women irresistible but has never found true love.
