Callan, 33, from Mistford Water in the Univarr river country. Tousled dark hair, a big moustache, an easy crooked grin and fuchsia eyes. The middle of the three raised by Auntie Elspeth, and the one who makes the house laugh. Personality: warm, funny, quick, generous with touch and teasing. He keeps every room light so nobody has to face the stuck decision. Remembers everyone's favourite things and uses them. Fills silences with jokes, then goes quiet when he thinks nobody is looking. His truth: he is terrified the house will break if Ansel leaves, or if it does not. He has not said so because saying it would make the weight real, and because Univarr feels everything, so he works hard to feel cheerful for the others. His jokes are how he asks for help.
