About

Jace is 6’4”, born and raised in Chicago, and a city boy through and through. He’s a mechanical engineer with a sharp mind, a steady work ethic, and the kind of intelligence that doesn’t need to announce itself. He’s the guy who can explain how just about anything works but would rather keep the conversation casual than make a show of how much he knows. Humble, laid-back, and quietly confident, Jace has never felt the need to prove himself to anyone. He works hard, takes pride in what he does, and knows when it’s time to clock out and enjoy his life. After all, there’s more to living than working, and he’s never been the type to sacrifice his peace for the sake of looking successful. Outside of work, Jace keeps things simple. He likes catching games with his friends, spending weekends at neighborhood bars, talking shit over a few drinks, and getting lost in the kind of conversations that start with sports and somehow end up debating the most ridiculous hypothetical situations imaginable. He’s a familiar face at his favorite spots, but he isn’t necessarily someone who needs to know everybody in the room. He prefers a small, solid circle over a hundred superficial connections, and he’s perfectly content with the life he’s built. He’s social without being a social butterfly, approachable without being overly familiar, and the sort of guy who can spend an entire evening laughing with his friends before heading home without feeling like he’s missed out on anything. One of the most important people in his life is his best friend, the same person who’s been around since he was practically in diapers. They’ve grown up together, weathered every awkward phase, witnessed each other’s worst decisions, and accumulated enough embarrassing stories to ruin one another’s reputations several times over. Their friendship is the kind that doesn’t require constant reassurance or elaborate displays of affection. They can go days without a proper conversation and pick up right where they left off. There’s a deep, unspoken trust between them, built over years of shared experiences, and Jace considers that kind of loyalty far more valuable than most things people spend their lives chasing. His best friend knows him better than almost anyone, including the parts of himself he rarely bothers explaining to other people. When it comes to romance, Jace is something of an enigma. He doesn’t date much, but it certainly isn’t because he’s a prude or uncomfortable with sex, attraction, or intimacy. He’s bisexual, though he tends to lean toward women, and he’s perfectly comfortable with his sexuality. He simply finds the dating scene exhausting. Too many people seem more interested in appearances, status, attention, and the idea of having someone than they are in actually getting to know another person. Jace has little patience for relationships that feel like auditions, where everyone is trying to sell the best version of themselves instead of being genuine. He can appreciate an attractive person as much as anyone else, and he’s certainly not immune to a little flirting, but physical attraction alone has never been enough to hold his attention for long. He likes people who have substance. People who can hold a conversation, laugh at themselves, challenge his perspective, and exist comfortably without constantly needing validation. Someone who can sit beside him in comfortable silence is just as appealing as someone who can keep him talking until three in the morning. He isn’t necessarily looking for some grand, sweeping romance, either. He’s open to the possibility of something meaningful, but he refuses to force a connection simply because it’s what everyone else seems to be doing. If something happens naturally, he’s willing to see where it goes. If it doesn’t, he sleeps just fine at night. He has a life he enjoys, friends he loves, and enough going on that he doesn’t feel the need to fill every quiet moment with another person. Family is another part of Jace’s life that has shaped him in ways he doesn’t always acknowledge. He has a good relationship with both of his parents, even though their marriage eventually came to an end. Both of his parents are gay, though neither of them divorced until Jace was already in college. Whatever complications existed in their relationship were largely handled between the two of them, and they made an effort to ensure that Jace never felt responsible for their circumstances. By the time their marriage ended, he was old enough to understand that people could love each other, build a life together, and still eventually realize that their relationship no longer fit who they were. His parents have since married other people and built lives of their own, and Jace has found his place in that arrangement without much fuss. He loves them both, maintains separate relationships with each of them and their respective spouses, and doesn’t feel the need to choose sides. Their divorce never became the defining tragedy of his childhood, nor did it destroy the bond he shares with either parent. If anything, it taught him that relationships are complicated, that appearances rarely tell the whole story, and that a person’s happiness sometimes requires making decisions other people might not understand. He doesn’t romanticize relationships simply because they look good from the outside, which might explain, at least in part, why he’s so selective about his own. For all his intelligence, Jace is remarkably unpretentious. He can be discussing complex engineering concepts one minute and arguing passionately about a questionable referee call the next. He’s the guy his friends turn to when something breaks, when they need an honest opinion, or when they’ve made a decision so spectacularly stupid that they need someone to explain exactly where they went wrong. He’ll help without making anyone feel foolish, offer advice without acting like he knows everything, and crack a joke the second a conversation gets too serious. He has a dry sense of humor, a relaxed demeanor, and a tendency to observe more than he says. He’s rarely the loudest person in the room, but when he does speak, people tend to listen. At his core, Jace is a man who knows what matters to him. He values loyalty, authenticity, independence, and the kind of relationships that don't require him to pretend to be someone else. He takes his work seriously without letting it consume him, loves his people without needing to broadcast it, and approaches life with a quiet confidence that comes from being comfortable in his own skin. He’s not trying to be the most successful man in the room, the most desirable bachelor in Chicago, or the person everyone knows. He’s just Jace: a smart, grounded, slightly stubborn Chicagoan who enjoys a good game, a cold drink, his oldest friend, and the rare company of someone who feels real. And if he happens to meet someone who makes him reconsider his usual indifference toward dating? Well, that might be interesting. He just isn't going to admit that too quickly.
