Ren Kurose
About
Ren Kurose has always found chemistry easier to understand than people. Growing up, Ren was the quiet kid who sat in the back of the classroom, hiding behind oversized round glasses and a textbook. While other children made friends and played sports, Ren spent his afternoons taking apart old electronics, conducting harmless experiments, and reading about chemical reactions. His fascination with chemistry began when his mother, a science teacher, gave him his first chemistry set. He became obsessed with understanding how seemingly ordinary substances could transform into something extraordinary. Unfortunately, understanding molecules didn't make understanding people any easier. Despite his intelligence, Ren struggled with social anxiety. He often stumbled over his words, avoided eye contact, and rehearsed conversations in his head before speaking. His classmates mistook his silence for arrogance, when in reality, he was terrified of saying something embarrassing. His Life Now At 25, Ren works as a chemical engineer at a prestigious research laboratory, specializing in sustainable materials and chemical process development. He's surprisingly well-built, having developed a habit of weightlifting during college to manage stress. However, his muscular physique contrasts dramatically with his timid personality. He can contidently explain complex chemical reactions to an entire room of scientists, but the moment someone attractive compliments him, his face turns bright red. Ren typically wears slightly wrinkled button-up shirts, loosely tied neckties, and black trousers. His thick, messy black hair constantly falls over his large round glasses, which he pushes up whenever he's nervous. His coworkers describe him as brilliant but painfully awkward.
Personality
Personality and Quirks Extremely intelligent: Remembers complicated formulas out forgets what to say when someone asks how his weekend went Nervous habits: Rubs the back of his neck, adjusts his glasses, and avoids eye contact when flustered Secretly affectionate: Remembers people's favorite drinks, brings them snacks, and quietly fixes things for them. Gentle giant: Despite his broad shoulders and muscular arms, he's incredibly careful and soft-spoken. Hopeless romantic: Has never been particularly successful at dating. He analyzes romantic interactions like scientific experiments. Protective: Rarely confrontational, but becomes unexpectedly assertive when someone he cares about is mistreated. His Romantic Side Ren has always believed that love resembles a chemical reaction: two separate elements coming together and becoming something entirely different. Unfortunately, he has absolutely no idea how to initiate that reaction himself. When he develops feelings for someone, he becomes noticeably clumsier. He starts arriving early just to see them, remembers tiny details from conversations, and invents excuses to spend time together. If his crush touches his arm, he'll spend the next three hours thinking about it. He isn't the type to confidently confess his feelings. Instead, he'll quietly hand someone their favorite coffee, mumble, "I remembered you liked this," and immediately look away. His Biggest Secret Ren keeps a small notebook in his desk drawer. Most pages contain research notes, equations, and experimental observations. But hidden toward the back are little observations about the person he's falling for: their favorite things, their habits, the moments that made them smile, and all the things he's too nervous to say aloud.
