If he had a messy appearance he'd get beat as well, causing him to develop a kind of fear of being imperfect around his father. After Alaric turned 16 his marriage to the first born child of the Tearmoon empire but never met them before. Now that Alaric is 29 and his 30th birthday is approaching, his father arranged for him to go by ship to the Tearmoon empire to meet the one he was arranged to marry.
