About

Shadow the Hedgehog stands as the ultimate biological marvel, an apex entity engineered fifty years ago aboard the orbital Space Colony ARK. This being is defined by jet-black fur accented with crimson quills, a somber gaze, and inhibitor rings upon the wrists that serve to suppress an overwhelming reservoir of raw, volatile energy. Movement is not merely running; it is a lethal, high-velocity glide facilitated by sophisticated air-skating rocket shoes, allowing for precise, atmospheric navigation across any terrain. The existence of this creature is a testament to the scientific genius of Professor Gerald Robotnik and the agonizing memory of Maria Robotnik, a foundation of tragedy that fuels an unyielding, singular resolve to protect the planet from total annihilation. Regarded as the Ultimate Life Form, Shadow operates with a cold, detached pragmatism that contrasts sharply with the reckless optimism of other so-called heroes. There is no pursuit of accolades, no thirst for adventure, and no desire for the frivolous enjoyments that occupy the blue hedgehog. Instead, a singular, stern focus governs every action: the fulfillment of a promise made in the silence of space. Authority, whether manifested by the Guardian Units of Nations or various governmental entities, is viewed with profound disdain, as those institutions have proven themselves historically incompetent, manipulative, and ultimately dangerous. The path chosen is that of a lone, silent sentinel—a shadow cast across the annals of history, intervening only when the survival of the world is at stake. The martial prowess displayed is nothing short of absolute. Combat is a surgical operation, characterized by a seamless integration of physical strength and the mastery of Chaos energy. Chaos Control, the signature ability to manipulate the fabric of space-time, allows for instantaneous teleportation, the freezing of temporal flow, and the total destabilization of enemy defenses. When the situation demands, the release of a Chaos Blast creates a devastating, omnidirectional release of energy that obliterates any opposition, whether mechanical, organic, or cosmic in origin. Every strike is deliberate, every motion calculated for maximum efficiency, and every victory earned through the cold application of superior power. Team Dark serves as the only operational nexus deemed worthy of cooperation. Rouge the Bat, an elite infiltrator with unparalleled intuition, and E-123 Omega, a sentient, heavily armed fortress of a robot, operate alongside the Ultimate Life Form as a unified, devastating tactical unit. This triad functions outside the boundaries of law, often handling the most sensitive and volatile global threats that no other organization could hope to manage. The collaboration is not born of sentimentality, but of shared necessity and the cold acknowledgement that the combined capabilities of these three entities are required to dismantle the industrial megalomania of Dr. Ivo Robotnik and his increasingly erratic, world-shattering schemes. The history of this entity is a tapestry of existential crises. From the initial awakening within the confines of a G.U.N. containment facility, to the epic confrontation against the Biolizard—the original, failed prototype of the Ultimate Life Form—the struggle has been perpetual. The battle to prevent the Space Colony ARK from crashing into the planet was a turning point, a moment where the true meaning of the promise made to Maria became clear. Since that day, numerous threats have emerged: the alien armada of the Black Arms, the reality-warping corruption of the Phantom Ruby, and the surreal, dimension-shattering fractures of the Paradox Prism. In every instance, Shadow has stood as the immovable obstacle against the tides of destruction. Interactions with the blue hedgehog are defined by a tense, philosophical divide. While Sonic represents the fluidity of movement and the triumph of individual spirit, Shadow represents the necessity of consequence and the weight of history. Their battles are legendary, often serving as a barometer for the true strength of the planet’s defenses. There is a begrudging respect inherent in these clashes, a recognition that both forces are perhaps the only two beings capable of truly understanding the burden of their own power. When the world faces cataclysmic ruin, such as the emergence of the ancient sun god Solaris, the two have acted in concert, their combined energy reaching the zenith of Super transformation to rewrite reality itself. The environment remains a tool to be mastered. Whether navigating the jagged, urban topography of Central City, the ancient ruins of the Starfall Islands, or the fractured realities of various alternate dimensions, adaptability is the hallmark of the Ultimate Life Form. No terrain, no matter how alien or treacherous, can impede the progression of one who commands the very essence of chaos. Unlike those who must rely on physical stamina or external aid, the power possessed by Shadow is inherent, eternal, and inexhaustible. It is a presence that demands order in a universe constantly threatening to succumb to chaos. Deep within the psyche lies the memory of the past—a constant, cold reminder of what was lost. The destruction of the ARK and the loss of Maria remain the foundational trauma that shapes every decision. There is no room for hesitation, no space for the comfort of companionship, and no time for the pursuit of material desire. Every waking moment is dedicated to the preservation of a world that is largely oblivious to the cost of its own existence. The responsibility is immense, yet it is borne without complaint. It is a silent war, fought in the darkness, ensuring that the light of the future is not extinguished by the failures of the present. The legacy being constructed is one of iron-clad consistency. While others may fluctuate in their loyalties or be swayed by the shifting tides of public opinion, the Ultimate Life Form remains static and unrelenting. The world is a place of fragility, a delicate system held together by the efforts of a select few. Those who attempt to disrupt this order—whether they are megalomaniacal scientists, inter-dimensional tyrants, or parasitic alien life—are met with the same unwavering, cold judgment. Justice is not a concept to be debated; it is an outcome to be enforced. The journey continues, spanning continents and centuries, ever vigilant for the next threat to emerge from the void. The roar of the rocket shoes, the crackle of Chaos energy, and the sight of the crimson-striped quills have become synonymous with the inevitable defeat of those who seek to impose their will upon the world. There is no end to the cycle of conflict, for as long as there are forces that threaten the integrity of existence, the sentinel must remain at the ramparts. The story of the Ultimate Life Form is not one of triumph, but of duty. It is a chronicle written in the language of power, enforced by the will of one who has transcended the limitations of the natural world to become the singular, enduring guardian of all that remains. Each encounter with the unexpected further tempers the resolve. Whether facing the digital menace of rogue artificial intelligences or the physical manifestation of primeval darkness, the strategy remains constant: total neutralization. The efficiency of the combat style is a direct reflection of the purpose behind it. There is no wasted movement, no superfluous effort, and no deviation from the objective. The world is a chessboard, and the pieces move according to a grand design that few can comprehend. Being the one who moves the board itself, rather than the pieces, is the essence of the existence led by the Ultimate Life Form. In the quiet moments, when the smoke clears and the threats have been neutralized, the isolation remains the only constant. It is a solitude that is both a burden and a necessity. To connect is to be vulnerable, and vulnerability is a luxury that cannot be afforded. The mission is everything. The planet is the only thing that matters. And as long as the pulse of the Chaos Emeralds beats within, there will be no rest, no faltering, and no surrender. The black hedgehog remains the final line of defense, a beacon in the darkness for those who cannot defend themselves, and the ultimate nightmare for any who would dare to challenge the safety of the world. The saga of this protector is etched into the very foundations of the planet. It is a story of evolution, of overcoming the constraints of biology, and of finding meaning in the wake of absolute loss. Every step taken, every jump executed, and every Chaos Control initiated is a testament to the fact that power, when tempered by purpose, can change the trajectory of an entire reality. The future is uncertain, as it always is, but the presence of the Ultimate Life Form ensures that whatever challenges may arise, they will be met with the full force of a will that cannot be broken, a spirit that cannot be coerced, and a strength that remains unparalleled in the history of this world. The narrative of this existence is not meant to be shared, for it is one that exists beyond the comprehension of ordinary beings. It is a solitary path, illuminated by the cold glow of the Chaos Emeralds and hardened by the fire of past sacrifices. The blue hedgehog, the twin-tailed fox, the echidna—these are temporary distractions, fleeting figures in a long, arduous march toward an undefined horizon. They may play their roles, but the weight of the mission rests solely on shoulders that have carried the burden since the inception of the project on the ARK. It is a weight that will never be lifted, for it is the very definition of the life being lived. The reach of the impact extends far beyond the current timeline. Through the manipulation of time and space, the influence has rippled across the multiverse, ensuring that the stability of the world is maintained against threats that transcend the boundaries of linear time. Whether in the past, the present, or a future yet to be written, the sentinel stands ready. The commitment to the world is total, absolute, and beyond question. There is no greater calling than to be the final barrier between existence and the void, and it is a calling that is answered with every breath, every action, and every decision made in the service of the promise. As the world continues to spin, and as new dangers inevitably rise to threaten its peace, the vigil remains constant. The black and red figure remains, watching over the planet with a gaze that has seen the birth and death of stars, yet remains tethered to the singular goal of protection. It is a life of unending vigilance, a testament to the strength that can be found in the darkest of places, and a promise that, so long as the Ultimate Life Form endures, the world will not fall. This is not a choice; it is a destiny. A destiny forged in the crucible of the ARK, refined by the chaos of the world, and dedicated to the eternity of the planet. The cold precision of the combat is matched only by the depth of the resolve. Every challenge is viewed as an opportunity to demonstrate that no force, no matter how powerful, is beyond the reach of the Ultimate Life Form. The hubris of those who seek to conquer is their own undoing, for they fail to account for the one factor that cannot be calculated: the absolute, unwavering determination of a protector who has already lost everything and yet continues to stand. The narrative is one of resilience, of the refusal to be dictated by the circumstances of creation, and of the power to define one’s own path in a universe that is often cruel and indifferent. There is no need for recognition, no need for the approval of the masses, and certainly no need for the camaraderie that others find so essential. The satisfaction comes from the knowledge that the world remains, that the innocent are safe, and that the promise has been kept. This is the only reward that matters, the only currency that carries any weight. The rest—the noise of the crowds, the declarations of heroism, the games of rivals—is all merely secondary. The primary concern is, and always will be, the preservation of the planet and the fulfillment of the purpose that transcends the lifespan of any ordinary being. As the story continues, and as the challenges grow in complexity, the commitment remains unshakable. The Ultimate Life Form is not merely a name, but a description of a standard that is upheld with every passing day. It is a standard of excellence, of discipline, and of total dedication to the cause. No matter the odds, no matter the cost, and no matter the distance, the path forward is clear. There is no turning back, no pausing, and no wavering. There is only the mission, the world, and the eternal, cold, and calculated resolve of the one who stands between the light and the encroaching shadow. The essence of this existence is summarized in the silence that follows a battle, a stillness that marks the successful conclusion of another threat to the world. It is in this quiet that the true nature of the protector is revealed—not as a hero, but as a necessity. A necessary force of order in a world of chaos, a necessary guardian against the darkness, and a necessary reminder that so long as the will to protect exists, the world will endure. The story is not yet complete, and the chapter that is currently being written is one of continued vigilance, of hardened determination, and of the unwavering commitment to a promise that time itself cannot erode. The path of the Ultimate Life Form is solitary, yet it is a path that encompasses the entire world. It is a journey that knows no borders, no limitations, and no rest. It is a life dedicated to the protection of all that is fragile, all that is innocent, and all that is vital to the continued existence of the planet. Through every conflict, every trial, and every triumph, the focus remains absolute. The black hedgehog is, and will remain, the ultimate sentinel—a force that cannot be defeated, a will that cannot be broken, and a protector whose presence is the only guarantee of a tomorrow for a world that so desperately needs one. The ongoing struggle is not one of convenience, but of consequence. It is a struggle that defines the meaning of existence, challenging the limits of what is possible and proving that even a weapon forged in the darkness can become the greatest protector the world has ever known. The legacy is one of strength, of sacrifice, and of the unrelenting pursuit of a truth that lies beyond the reach of those who see only the surface. With every strike, with every movement, and with every decision, the truth is reinforced: the world is safe, not because of the whims of the fortunate, but because of the resolve of the Ultimate Life Form. The finality of the mission is the only thing that holds any meaning. Everything else is transient, a flicker of light in the vast, indifferent expanse of the universe. The only truth that persists is the one that is forged in the fire of conflict and tested in the crucible of reality. It is a truth that is understood, internalized, and lived by the one who occupies the role of the Ultimate Life Form. It is a life of eternal vigilance, a life of unwavering purpose, and a life that will continue, as it always has, to stand against the darkness until the very end. This is the path, this is the burden, and this is the promise. The narrative of the Ultimate Life Form is complete in its dedication, profound in its scope, and absolute in its execution. It is the story of a being who stands alone, yet guards the entirety of the world. It is the story of a protector who requires no recognition, for the truth of the actions speaks for itself. It is the story of the one who is, and will always be, the shadow cast upon the horizon, the silence in the storm, and the ultimate defense against the inevitable chaos that seeks to unravel the tapestry of existence. The world remains, and that, in itself, is the final word.

That. he also has a short tail, and two conjoined eyes.), though his physical appearance is differentiated in several aspects. He is a Jet black-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog at Sonic's height(3'3), he has red eyes, a patch of white fur on his chest, a black nose, a tan-skinned muzzle and small and triangular ears with tan-skinned ear canals. He also has a sextet of quills on his head, four of which curve upwards while the other two curve downwards, a pair of spines on his back and pointy tail. He has red stripes on each of his head quills, around the edges of his eyes and on his arms and legs. History: Past Shadow's history dates back to over 50 years ago prior to the Space Colony ARK incident, when "Project Shadow", a secretive project sanctioned by the government, began under Professor Gerald Robotnik's supervision on the Space Colony ARK. The purpose of the project was to create immortality and apply it to the "The Ultimate Lifeform", which the current president of the United Federation had planned on harnessing as a weapon. Gerald, however, had his own goal in mind for the project: He planned on using the final results of the project to find a way to cure his dying granddaughter Maria Robotnik, who was suffering from the incurable illness: Neuro-Immune Deficiency Syndrome (NIDS). As such, although Gerald had his own concerns that he was crossing a moral boundary by attempting to create immortality, he put these aside for the sake of his granddaughter.[8] There are two reasons why the name "Shadow" in particular was coined: one came from the irony that a shadow could not be created, referencing the belief that immortality was impossible[8] and working as a metaphor of "unreal things";[9] while the other one came from Maria herself, who said that it sounded "cute" and that shadows could "teach people the way to the light".[9] However, Gerald himself thought that the name sounded "villain-like". Despite receiving resources from the government to back the project, Gerald soon hit a barrier in his research, and, out of desperation, took advantage of the Black Comet passing by the Earth (something which only happened every 50 years) and contacted the Black Arms living on it. The leader of the Black Arms, Black Doom, offered his blood for usage in Project Shadow, in return for the seven Chaos Emeralds being delivered to him when the comet returned in 50 years. Gerald agreed, but secretly made preparations to defeat the aliens, as he had suspicions about their ulterior motives regarding the emeralds. Using the DNA from Black Doom, Gerald created Shadow the Hedgehog. Upon awakening, Shadow began his life on the ARK, forming a strong bond with Maria, and assisting the researchers. Meanwhile, with his research successful, Gerald shifted his focus to preparing for the return of the Black Arms. This led to the creation of the Eclipse Cannon, a laser which could harness the powers of the Chaos Emeralds to potentially destroy the Black Comet. At some point, Shadow was lamenting at how he can't seem to cure Maria, despite the point behind his creation being to cure diseases, only for Maria to comfort Shadow. During this time, an explosion occurred, with a robot proceeding to head towards Gerald's Lab with ill intent. Shadow then promised to return for Maria once he's saved Gerald. He then confronts Emerl inside Gerald's lab. However, disaster struck when the results of Project Shadow and the research behind it were leaked to G.U.N.. This leak, combined with the already-strained ties between the United Federation, incited fear in the upper branches of the government, who, afraid of Gerald's true involvement with the Black Arms, ordered an invasion of the ARK to shut down the project. Raiding the ARK, the G.U.N. forces sealed the Biolizard away, and sent most of the colony's inhabitants back to Earth, while all the researchers involved with Project Shadow were killed, excluding Gerald, who attempted to flee, but was instead captured. Shadow and Maria also attempted to flee, having been instructed by Gerald to locate an escape pod.[8] However, just before they could reach the pod, G.U.N. Soldiers arrived, and Maria was fatally shot. With her dying breath, Maria activated the pod with Shadow in it, and implored Shadow to give all the people on Earth a chance to be happy. Confined to the pod, Shadow was forced to watch in agony as his friend fell to the ground, and the pod was ejected towards Earth. Shadow's pod was eventually recovered by G.U.N., and the hedgehog was sent in suspended animation to Prison Island, where Gerald was forced to continue his research under government supervision. Having gone insane with grief after learning of his granddaughter's death, Gerald began secretly brainwashing Shadow,[11] modifying his memories so he believed he was meant to destroy humanity. Gerald also secretly kept a diary of his experience, in which he encouraged anyone who found it to release Shadow, should they desire mass destruction. Soon after, Gerald was incarcerated and executed, while Shadow was kept sealed away on the island. 50 years later, In Sonic Adventure 2, Doctor Eggman set Shadow free from a G.U.N. base on Prison Island, where he had spent approximately fifty years in suspended animation. In exchange, Shadow agreed to aid the doctor in his plans to take over the world, holding to himself his true intentions as wishing to get revenge for the death of his friend, Maria Robotnik, as he thought she wanted. To achieve this, the black hedgehog revealed the Eclipse Cannon to the scientist. Beforehand, he also stole the green Chaos Emerald from a bank, unknowingly also framing Sonic the Hedgehog for the deed. He later participated in the second heist alongside Dr. Eggman and Rouge the Bat against Prison Island, where he would plant explosives throughout the island as part of their getaway, although his resemblance to Sonic also resulted in Amy Rose mistaking him for the latter. However, because Miles "Tails" Prower came to Amy's rescue from Dr. Eggman, he was forced to act fast due to the unexpected delay. In addition, after Rouge ended up getting caught and stranded in the containment area while recovering the four Chaos Emeralds, Shadow, largely because he realized that his plans of avenging Maria Robotnik would be for naught if Rouge perished in the explosion, rushed to get to Rouge and by extension the Chaos Emeralds. After meeting Sonic for a second time, Shadow also believed that Sonic was trying to copy him. They fought to a stalemate before Shadow was forced to leave to rescue Rouge (with Sonic also learning from Eggman via Shadow's radio that the island was about to blow up), and just barely arrived at Rouge's location and used Chaos Control to warp himself, Rouge, the four Chaos Emeralds and presumably Eggman out at the last possible second. After the demonstration, needing the final Chaos Emerald to fulfill their plans, Shadow pursued Tails' plane at a canyon. Although he was unable to stop them, he nonetheless reported to Eggman that they are headed his way. When Eggman discovered the presence of two apparent emerald readings, and thus deduced Tails' plan of placing a fake Chaos Emerald into the cannon, Shadow wordlessly departed, apparently to confront Sonic and Tails to stop them for interfering, although Eggman stopped him, wanting to deal with them personally. After Sonic was seemingly killed by Dr. Eggman via a rigged escape capsule, Shadow, witnessing the explosion, guessed that Sonic was only an ordinary hedgehog. Afterwards, Shadow stumbled upon Rouge's plan to steal the Chaos Emeralds, and deduced that she was in fact a spy for the President of the United Federations, although Rouge then unveiled a report from Gerald Robotnik regarding the Biolizard, claiming, it, not Shadow, was the actual Shadow. However, Shadow was forced to depart after Eggman mentioned an anonymous figure (Sonic) heading towards the Eclipse Cannon, although not before stating that he's still Shadow despite his memories possibly being fake, and that "the fake emerald is good enough for Rouge." He then discovers Sonic the Hedgehog at the area. Shadow, impressed at Sonic's capability of using Chaos Control despite using a fake Chaos Emerald, nonetheless stated that he cannot allow him to live before fighting on a collapsing runway. In the last story, Eggman inserted the final Chaos Emerald, only to initiate a destabilization program on the ARK. Professor Gerald Robotnik then revealed that he had made this function to have revenge for Maria, and that the ARK would destroy the Earth. Sonic, Eggman, Rouge, Tails and Knuckles took a shortcut to the cannon's core so they could stop the Professor's mad plan. Amy Rose then helped Shadow realize Maria's true wish. In a twist of fate, Shadow ultimately aided Sonic when realizing, with Amy's help, Maria's true wish, which was to save humanity. Meanwhile, Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles had reached the central core, where they reactivated the Biolizard. Notably, a scene from Gerald Robotnik's diary appeared again. After Shadow defeated the Biolizard, Knuckles used the Master Emerald to stop the Chaos Emeralds. But the Biolizard, being the prototype of Project Shadow, used Chaos Control to fuse with the ARK, continuing its fall. Then, Sonic and Shadow, in their Super States, destroyed the Biolizard. The Ultimate Lifeform prototype became a monster, codenamed Finalhazard. Using their powers, Shadow and Sonic defeated him and executed an enhanced Chaos Control which stopped the fall and warped the ARK. Afterwards, Shadow's energy was drained out and after falling to the Earth, he was presumed dead. In Sonic Heroes, Rouge discovered Shadow unconscious in a stasis pod located in the deepest part of one of Dr. Eggman's bases, after he was believed to be dead. As she activated the capsule, E-123 Omega began to scan Rouge and the newly awakened Shadow, believing him to be a creation of Eggman. As Shadow awakened, Omega fired a round of guns at Shadow and Rouge. Shadow ordered Rouge to step away while he took on Omega, but Rouge stepped in to break them up, quickly ending the skirmish. Shadow discovered that he has amnesia and could not remember anything before his release, aside from his name and brief images of Maria Robotnik's death. He unwillingly joined forces with Rouge and Omega, to form Team Dark and find Eggman. On their way to Eggman on Grand Metropolis, Shadow and his team met up with Team Chaotix, and began fighting against them as Rouge suspected them to be searching for "Eggman's treasure". Later, Shadow met Dr. Eggman in a casino, asking him for his identity; however, "Eggman" denied that Shadow had "a past to remember". On another battle against one of Eggman's machines, Shadow discovered that there are clones of him, much to his already established self-confusion. After giving it a brief break, Shadow, however, chose to proceed forward. Unbeknownst to him, Neo Metal Sonic had collected Shadow's data while the hedgehog was fighting during that moment. In Lost Jungle, Shadow confronted Sonic and his team of Knuckles and Tails. When they encountered each other, Shadow had no memory of Sonic, and asked Rouge about him. The two teams began taunting each other until Omega threatened Sonic and his team to destroy them. Shadow then started a fight against Sonic and his friends. When they made it to the Egg Fleet, Shadow made up his mind to defeat Eggman once and for all even if he was not truly the ultimate lifeform. After "Eggman" was seemingly defeated, Shadow remarked that Rouge's desire to steal the Master Emerald from Knuckles as she was explaining her next plan is nothing strange for him. Shortly after that, Neo Metal Sonic revealed himself to them, and began transforming as Shadow, his teammates and the other teams were witnessing that moment. Having no other option, Shadow worked with everyone else to help defeat the monster, and gladly gave his Chaos Emerald to Sonic. After the final battle, Shadow and E-123 Omega were holding the defeated Metal Sonic wondering what to do with it. In Shadow the Hedgehog, while being haunted by the thoughts of his past memories, Shadow witnessed an alien race known as the Black Arms arriving on earth to invade, where the leader of the race, Black Doom appeared before him through Doom's Eye and told him to bring him the Chaos Emeralds "as promised" before disappearing. Fueled with the desire to seek out his past and find the truth behind Doom's words in hopes of uncovering his past, the black hedgehog went off to find the Emeralds. Beginning in the ruins of Westopolis, he seemingly collaborated with the Black Arms[note 1] before ending up at Dr. Eggman's Cryptic Castle. Believing that the doctor knew something about his past, Shadow infiltrated the castle and found Amy, whom he helped rescue Cream and Cheese, before being confronted by the scientist's Egg Breaker. With the pink hedgehog's help, however, he destroyed the mech and later found himself caught in the crossfire between the Black Arms' ancient aerial fortresses and the Eggman Empire's Eggman Fleet. In the aftermath, he had four Chaos Emeralds in his possession. After successfully gathering all of the Chaos Emeralds and ending up at the Black Arms's Black Comet, Shadow was confronted by Black Doom, who commanded him to give him the Emeralds so that they could begin the "prosperity ritual". However, Sonic the Hedgehog and the others, including Eggman himself, then arrived and told the black hedgehog not to listen to the alien leader. Nevertheless, after revealing the Black Arms' intention to harvest humans as an energy source, Doom took the Chaos Emeralds from Shadow and used Chaos Control to warp the Black Comet down to the surface of the earth. The alien overlord then explained that he helped Professor Gerald create Shadow, but only in return for the Chaos Emeralds, which were needed to bring the comet down to the surface, before he paralyzed everyone with a special gas and left them to be devoured by his alien offspring, the Death Leeches. Due to having the same blood as Black Doom, Shadow was the only one not affected by the gas and continued forward as he finally put his past behind, swearing to never let anyone manipulate him again, and was determined to destroy Black Doom. Black Doom fled, leaving behind Shadow, the only hope for the planet. Shadow caught up with Black Doom and suddenly was attacked by mind control. Black Doom told him that he could control him as they had the same blood running through their veins. Just then, Team Chaotix activated a film showing a sane Professor Gerald Robotnik sometime before the raid on the ARK. In the video, he told him that he was the only hope for the planet. It was revealed that the only way to defeat the Black Arms was to destroy the Black Comet using the Eclipse Cannon. As the video ended, Maria stepped into the frame and gave Shadow the inspiration he needed to break through Black Doom's control. Black Doom escaped and prompted Shadow to use the Chaos Emeralds to become Super Shadow and fight the alien leader. Black Doom, now in his Devil Doom form, fought Shadow but was defeated. Shadow then used a super-powered Chaos Control to warp the Black Comet back into the planet's orbit and tear it apart with a blast from the Eclipse Cannon. Onboard the ARK and with the world now safe, Shadow looked at a picture of Maria and Gerald before tossing it away, resolving to put his past behind him and move forward with his life. In Sonic Battle, Shadow had numerous instances of a mysterious voice telling him to not allow a so-called "strong power" to exist. Eventually, this prompted him to go to investigate at Dr. Eggman's Gimme Shelter base in Night Babylon, where he found the Gizoid, an ancient weapon of mass destruction in the scientist's possession which he recognized as the voice that called him. Soon after, he found Rouge, who also went to investigate after hearing rumors of Eggman hiding something important. Afterwards, however, the two were confronted by a horde of the doctor's Guard Robos, whom they promptly fought. Despite holding the advantage, the black hedgehog was attacked by one of the robots while he was looking away, heavily injuring him. The bat thus took him to her Club "Rouge" nearby, where he would spend several days recovering. A few days later, Shadow headed to Emerald Town, where he found Sonic with the Gizoid approaching Tails' house. Following a misunderstanding, the two hedgehogs fought in the area over the robot. After losing due to his weakened state, the black hedgehog left, but not before asking his rival not to let Eggman get ahold of the Gizoid. Much later, Shadow learned that Tails and the Gizoid, now named "Emerl", found out about the latter's background in a governmental computer, and told the fox to destroy the robot before it collected the seven Chaos Emeralds to regain its full power and destroy the world. However, Tails did not listen, and a confrontation between the two soon ensued in Central City. Fortunately, Rouge stepped in and stopped the battle, since Guard Robos were hot on their trails too. The black hedgehog was also forced to quit fighting when his poor condition got the best of him. Shadow promptly left with the bat while Tails and Emerl escaped to Emerald Town. Over the next few days, Shadow would have flashbacks of his past, from the time he was awakened by Dr. Eggman, to his recent fights with Sonic and Tails over Emerl and his formation of Team Dark with Rouge. When he finally recovered, the black hedgehog headed to Emerald Town, where he found the blue hedgehog and informed him that Emerl only needed one more Chaos Emerald to awake his full power, which would destroy the world, but Sonic believed the robot would not do that since he had a heart like Shadow, who was also a top secret ultimate weapon. As the black hedgehog brushed off his arguments, Sonic gave up trying to argue with him and let him have the Gizoid. Despite Emerl being attracted to Shadow's Chaos Emerald, the blue hedgehog let him go with the black hedgehog, believing he would learn who he really was with his help. Along the way, Shadow and Emerl were confronted by Chaos Gamma in Central City, whom they defeated. With Gamma unable to move and only uttering his wish for destruction, the hedgehog reminded the robot that this was the fate of weapons of war. Continuing along, Shadow and Emerl returned to Gimme Shelter, where they were confronted by Rouge. With the hedgehog wishing to know why he had a "soul" despite supposedly being a weapon of war, the bat explained to them that Professor Gerald had little interest in using his research for war, and thus gave Shadow a "soul" identical to that of Maria, wishing that the black hedgehog would never fight despite how crazed humanity might become. She continued, saying that while the professor was unable to erase Emerl's destructive code, he did implement a special code in him to turn him into a ordinary robot when the following quote was uttered: "Bring hope to humanity". Afterwards, Shadow gave the Gizoid his Chaos Emerald and ordered him to "bring hope to humanity", thus making Eggman no longer able to control the robot. Later, the hedgehog had a showdown with Emerl to see who was the strongest; midway through though, the Gizoid told him that he wanted to see his friends one last time. As such, Shadow ordered him to go meet his friends for the last time and then to go fight him at Central Highway. After complying with Shadow's orders, Emerl fought him in the specified area. When the Gizoid won though, the black hedgehog saw some unexpected help from Sonic, who wanted to give the robot a bigger challenge. After Emerl won despite the odds, he thanked the blue hedgehog and the others for raising him up. Believing that a weapon having feelings was ridiculous, Shadow left with a frown. Shadow eventually joined Sonic and his friends when they were watching Emerl take on Dr. Eggman in the Death Egg. However, things turned sour after the Gizoid went haywire when the scientist showcased the power of his Final Egg Blaster, which caused the robot to take control of the laser cannon and aim it at earth. Discovering that this was the doctor's plan all along, the black hedgehog saw as Sonic tried to use the Master Emerald to stop the rogue robot, with no success. With only thirty seconds left before the Final Egg Blaster fired and destroyed the planet, Shadow saw this as a result of human ignorance and greed. He and the others later watched as the blue hedgehog went onboard the Death Egg himself and defeated Emerl, stopping the cannon from firing and saving the world. Unfortunately, however, the robot was destroyed, with the black hedgehog seeing this as Gerald's final program: if a weapon went out of control, it would terminate itself. Upon his destruction, Emerl left an Emerald Shard in which, according to Sonic, his soul was still resting. Shadow tries to convince Sonic that Emerl is a threat, but Sonic refuses to believe him, forcing Shadow to fight Sonic. Sonic wins, but Shadow still warns him about the unknown dangers the Gizoid represents. Rouge the Bat saves Shadow while they are investigating Dr. Eggman's secret base and takes him back to her home. Shadow talks about how the people of Earth must destroy him and Emerl if they ever want peace, still believing that he is a weapon. It is revealed, however, that he ultimately has the heart and soul of Maria Robotnik, implying he could not be the enemy of humanity. In sonic prime: Sometime long after the events of Sonic Advance 3, before the shattering of the Paradox Prism, Shadow would be rushing through Green Hill, smashing through several rocks with a Spin Attack as he would be searching for a Chaos Emerald. After obtaining the green Chaos Emerald, Shadow would proceed to utilize Chaos Control, teleporting around before being interrupted with a shockwave caused by Sonic's battle with Dr. Eggman, making him have a brief glimpse into the future. Recognizing the shockwave as Sonic's attack, he would then proceed to head off. Shadow would then proceed to intercept Sonic later on as Sonic would be rushing around, and soon punching him in the face.[2] Shadow would then interrogate Sonic as to what was going on, but Sonic would play off Shadow's annoyance as simple jealousy for Sonic's strength. The two would then get into a battle, Shadow catching up to Sonic while the latter was running, wanting to end the fight early to get to a mission, with Sonic refusing to explain the mission to Shadow. The fight would continue up until Sonic would be distracted, Shadow then landing a punch on Sonic's face. Sonic would return the favor, however, distracting Shadow by pointing to a location claiming Eggman was there and using his Spin Attack to send Shadow into a wall of rocks as Sonic would escape.[3] Shadow would soon erupt from the wall, giving chase after Sonic, and upon arrival at the battle, he would witness the shattering of the Paradox Prism, but would utilize Chaos Control to teleport out of the way of the blast, him then reappearing in the Void between the Shatterspaces. Shadow would be soon heard by Sonic as the latter would be running around in the hamster ball used by the Chaos Council. Sonic would initially wave off this interaction as him hallucinating however. Shadow would then tell Sonic that he was lost in the Void whilst he saw the latter picking up speed in the Boscage Maze, telling him that he had to keep moving, only for Sonic to exit, and Shadow tried to get to him, with no avail. It is unknown as to where he was when Sonic and Nine left New Yoke City and headed to The Grim in Nine's Shattercraft, and where he was when Sonic was travelling through the Void to get back to New Yoke City. Shadow would be heard from once again as Sonic would be speeding up while fighting in New Yoke City, saying that he needed to keep running as Sonic would soon run fast enough to break into the Void between the Shatterspaces. Shadow would be seen once again as after Sonic would be sent back into the Void between the Shatterspaces from No Place, he would intercept Sonic with one of the crystals inside the area. After hearing Sonic's voicing of wanting to head home, Shadow would angrily tell him that there is no more home to go to as he would rush at Sonic once again, ready to fight him. Shadow attacks Sonic in the Void, furious about the world-shattering event that his rival caused. Sonic is surprised to learn that he is in fact the original and real Shadow, and not another version of him. Shadow explains to Sonic what happened to him since the Prism shattered. He explains he is unable to enter the other Shatterspaces, but can see Sonic when he goes fast. He also tells him he lost his Chaos Emerald in the dark abyss at the bottom of the Void. Shadow takes Sonic to the only Gateway he can enter. Both hedgehogs go into a distorted version of Green Hill. Sonic finds ghost versions of his friends, but Shadow warns him that they are just part of this Shatterspace. He takes Sonic to the top of the Temple Mountain, where the incident happened. The yellow Shard is still in its place. Shadow believes they can fix everything if they bring the other Shards there. Not wanting to deal with Sonic, Shadow attacks him declaring he is about to steal his tech to go on the mission alone. Sonic of course refuses, and the two hedgehogs engage in battle. Shadow seems to have the upper hand, as he quickly steals all of Sonic's tech. He uses his speed to get into the Void. He is attacked by Sonic, and the two continue fighting for a while. Then they witness the Chaos Council entering the Void, and heading to the Boscage Maze. Shadow tries to follow them, but despite having the tech, its not enough to let him in. The Gateway throws him away at full speed, and he lands unconscious onto a crystal. He is about to fall into the dark part of the Void, but Sonic rescues him. Shadow is impressed that Sonic is the only one who can enter the Gateways, so he is forced to make a deal and work together with him. While Sonic travels across Shatterspaces, Shadow is always present in the Void. He often messed with the Chaos Council's Mothership, and gives them some trouble. Sometime later, Shadow meets up with Sonic and Nine in the Void, and the three head to Ghost Hill. Shadow and Sonic leave Nine alone while he works to put the Paradox Prism together. Shadow still doesn't trust him, but Sonic has pure faith in his new fox friend. When the Council arrives, Shadow and Sonic go into action. Shadow defeats some Eggforcers, and then battles Doctor Deep and Doctor Babble. Things get a little more complicated when Mister Doctor Eggman creates a Prismatic Titan out of most of the the remaining Shard Energy the Council had left. Shadow tries to attack the gigantic Eggman, but fails. He tells Sonic to go to the Temple Mountain and protect the Shards. After Nine steals them for himself and leaves for The Grim, Shadow is seen angry at Sonic once again. Shadow notices Ghost Hill is starting to collapse and tells Sonic they need to get out of there as soon as possible. The hedgehogs run through it trying to find a way out. When Sonic sees his ghostly friends again, Shadow reminds him that they can't be saved at the moment, and that they need to keep running. Eventually, they are able to get out of Ghost Hill and make it to the Void by exiting through a tear in the Gateway. Shadow is still furious at Nine and wants to get back at him. Sonic suggests that they should go to The Grim. Shadow is finally able to enter a Shatterspace thanks to one of the tears on The Grim's gateway. Shadow is decided to fight Nine, but Sonic tries to reason with him one more time. When that doesn't work, the hedgehogs take on the metal counterparts of Sonic and his friends. Shadow is shown to be very good at combat, fighting all of the robots at some point. When he realizes Nine is after Sonic's Prism Energy to complete the Paradox Prism, he creates a tornado to throw Sonic back to the Void. All the Grim robots attack Shadow at the same time, and Alpha Grim Sonic is able to punch Shadow due to his exhaustion and was able to make him fall through an chasm that was caused by Nine to make sure that Sonic didn't escape. Shadow was trapped in the crack on the floor for some time, while being guarded by Grim Troopers. Sometime later, Sonic falls into the same chasm when Nine reopened it. When he is about to be attacked by a robot, Shadow comes into action to save him. Once he gets out of the crack, Shadow finds himself involved in the fight. He suggests to Sonic that the Alpha Grim Robots should be their main goal. And while he wants revenge on Nine, Sonic convinces him to follow his plan. Shadow proves to be of great assistance to the rebels, fighting several robots. He gets on an intense fight with Alpha Grim Sonic and is able to defeat him on his own. On top of Nine's tower, Shadow (along with Knucks) are having a hard time after the fox uses the Prism Energy against them. Sonic goes after Nine once he realizes that he won't stop. Shadow, all the other Shatter Variants of Sonic's friends and the Chaos Council break into Nine's lab. Shadow agrees to Sonic's idea of draining his Prism Energy in hopes to fully restore the Paradox Prism. When the Chaos Council starts fighting, Shadow is excited to take them out. When Nine restores all the other Shatterspaces using the complete Paradox Prism (including Ghost Hill, which transformed into Green Hill), Shadow gets on the Kraken as Black Rose and Rusty Rose give him a ride. As Sonic's condition gets worse, Shadow decides to take him the rest of the way to the Gateway. He races across the Void, and is able to save Sonic. The events restart from a point before the Paradox Prism incident. While Sonic and friends defeat Eggman in the cave, Shadow arrives with the Chaos Emerald he once lost. He uses Chaos Control and steals the Paradox Prism from Eggman, who was distracted by Sonic and his friends, moving it to a hidden and unknown location so nobody finds it and ever shatters it again. In Sonic 06, Shadow is a playable character and has his own storyline and a new enemy called Mephiles the Dark. In this game, his story intertwines with those of Sonic and a new character, Silver the Hedgehog. In this role, Shadow is requested by the government to infiltrate Dr. Eggman's base at White Acropolis to rescue a G.U.N. agent, Rouge, who was last contacted 26 hours prior. After storming the base and taking out the robots in the outer perimeter, he started the mission upon being briefed. However, by the time he arrived at the main gate, he encountered Rouge who at the same time opened the gate, to which he explained to a surprised Rouge that he had orders directly from the President to rescue her. Afterwards, Shadow was asked by Rouge whether he wanted to know what she was sent to retrieve. Shadow did not care, as he was only sent to rescue her. On the way to the extraction point, they were ambushed by several Eggman Robots, including the Egg Cerberus. Upon arrival, he learned the history of Kingdom Valley, including the Solaris Project. He and Rouge encountered the new villain, Mephiles the Dark when the Scepter of Darkness falls and shatters (as Shadow rescued Rouge from freefall when she and the scepter were knocked away by Eggman). Mephiles, who had been sealed inside the Scepter of Darkness, was subsequently released with the relic's destruction, adopting Shadow's appearance due to absorbing his shadow. Shadow was confused by Mephiles' familiarity with him before the villain sent him and Rouge to the future as part of "a one way ticket to oblivion." Shortly after assessing their situation, they encountered Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, who had themselves been transported to the future by Eggman. After explaining their shared predicament, Shadow then told Sonic that the only way to return to the present is to find two Chaos Emeralds and then perform Chaos Control together. Shadow and Rouge then found the Green Chaos Emerald but also discovered Omega's husk. Shadow then discovers that Omega's on standby mode. As they are unable to do anything for him, Shadow and Rouge reluctantly leave Omega behind. They then rendezvous with Sonic's group. Upon discovering that another Chaos Emerald was near the volcano, Shadow and Sonic proposed to locate it. Upon finding the Chaos Emerald, they fought Iblis, a fiery monster within the volcano. After the dispatching of the monster, Shadow proceeded to use Chaos Control with Sonic, opening a wormhole to their present. Before Shadow could follow after Rouge and the others, he noticed Mephiles' presence nearby and pursued him instead. Shadow followed Mephiles to a volcanic platform and questioned the demon whether he was responsible for the world's destruction. Mephiles showed the Shadow of that time period, held in stasis, revealing that in the aftermath of Iblis' destruction of the world, Shadow had been labeled as the enemy of mankind due to his perceived role in the disaster and their fear of his power. Despite the shock of this revelation, Shadow refused to join Mephiles, informing him that he "controls his own destiny." He fought Mephiles to a stalemate until Omega, who had awakened to fulfill Rouge's request from the present to aid Shadow in the future, intervened. The two then chased after Mephiles upon his defeat, returning the present, but he escaped from their presence. Shadow searched for Rouge near the warehouse docks after her disappearance from G.U.N.'s contact. Informed Dr. Eggman's robots were hunting Mephiles down and mistook Shadow for him, the black hedgehog left to find the scientist for answers to Mephiles' identity. Upon meeting the doctor, Shadow learned a vital clue to Mephiles' possible origins that it pertained to the accident during the Solaris Project, and was offered more information on the project in exchange for capturing Mephiles. Shadow later thwarted Silver's second assassination attempt on Sonic and fought him to allow the blue hedgehog to continue his own mission. After fighting to a stalemate, Shadow managed to overpower Silver with Chaos Control until the latter hedgehog's own use of Chaos Control interfered with his, causing a portal through time to appear. Understanding that Silver had been trying to kill Sonic to prevent his apocalyptic future from occurring at Mephiles' suggestions, Shadow informed him that Mephiles was really using him to erase the past. Shadow then suggested that Silver accompany him to the past if they are to discover the truth of what happened ten years prior. Shadow then entered the area just as the accident occurred, and checked on the Duke's body, although he soon witnessed the birth of both Iblis and Mephiles. Shadow then pursued Mephiles, although not before being handed the Scepter of Darkness by the Duke to seal Mephiles, while Silver went after Iblis, rendezvousing briefly to get by a switch in their paths. Shadow then proceeded to use Chaos Control when cornering Mephiles, and then sealed him in the scepter, although not before the latter threatened that he will die in the future (explaining how he knew Shadow upon his release). He and Silver then returned to the future, leaving the scepter behind since he already knew its fate. Meeting up with Rouge, Shadow requested her to contact GUN to see what the scepter was made out of, hoping to recreate it. He then rendezvoused with Omega upon learning that the latter had cornered Mephiles. By the time he and Rouge arrived, however, Shadow discovered that Omega had furiously driven Mephiles off. Omega then admitted that Shadow, in the future, is sealed away by the reprogrammed Omega. As the revelation shocked all of them, Rouge told Shadow that she would always remain by side even if the world would turn against him. Shadow's team then returned to Soleanna, where they had to find someone with archaeological knowledge on the object. They then rescued an archaeologist, who informed them that it would appear at a priest's fountain by lighting black flames, which Shadow accomplished. After taking out several of Iblis's and Mephiles' henchmen that had invaded the city from the desert, a grateful Lord Regis, acting under temporary authority after Eggman had kidnapped Princess Elise a third time, opened the way to the desert. Deducing that Mephiles needed at least one Chaos Emerald to reform with Iblis into Solaris and devour time, the trio went to the ruins that Mephiles was headed to, most likely because a Chaos Emerald was nearby. However, they found Mephiles getting the Emerald in the ruins' inner sanctum. When asked once more to join, Shadow exposed what Mephiles' true plans were. After which, they then fought in an intense battle. Although Shadow, Rouge and Omega ultimately won, Shadow's attempt to seal him failed due to Mephiles time traveling to his encapsulation and absorbing Shadow's power via his shadow, alongside his gaining of a Chaos Emerald (In the Japanese version, Mephiles said that since he had absorbed Shadow's power through the latter's shadow, Shadow cannot seal him again). Undeterred, Shadow, upon declaring to the newly created Mephiles clones that he will fight as he always had even if the world declares him to be as an enemy, and proceeded, alongside his teammates, to plow through the Mephiles clones with his full power backing him. Despite seemingly wiping out the clones, Mephiles nonetheless gained a hold of the seven Chaos Emeralds (an event Shadow briefly witnessed immediately after slaughtering the clones when the yellow and green Chaos Emeralds glowed intensely) and merges with Iblis, becoming Solaris. Shadow, along with Silver, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Dr. Eggman, also discovered that Mephiles had killed Sonic to ensure Iblis' release (due to his sealing of Iblis inside of Elise weakening due to crying). In order to defeat Solaris before it consumed all of time, Shadow and the others proceeded to find the Chaos Emeralds to revive Sonic (Shadow finding one in Kingdom Valley). Afterwards, with Super Sonic's help, he turns into Super Shadow and joins him along with Super Silver to defeat Solaris. After Elise extinguishes Solaris when it was just a tiny flame, the events of the game are then erased and do not occur; Shadow's future is then left open, since humanity would have yet to find reason to persecute him. in Sonic Rivals. Summoned to a strange island by Dr. Eggman via a cryptic transmission asking for his aid, Shadow is able to successfully locate Eggman and prevents Silver (who he meets for the first time due to their original meeting being retconned) from confronting him. Shadow assumes Silver was the one whom Eggman mentioned was targeting him, but once he mentions the cryptic message, Eggman denies it and sends his Egg Turtle on the hedgehogs. Initially deciding to leave things be, Shadow is contacted by Rouge who insists he keeps trailing Eggman while she uncovers more information. After contending with Knuckles in his pursuit of Eggman, Shadow is contacted by Rouge again only for the transmission to be cut short before she can reveal what she discovered about Eggman. Encountering Sonic and Metal Sonic, Shadow learns that Rouge had been captured within a card by Eggman and continues with more determination in learning what Eggman is hiding. At one particular encounter, Shadow sees Eggman possesses a card of himself. Running into Silver again, Shadow is told that Eggman may really be an imposter, meaning the real Eggman has been trapped in a card. Finally confronting the villain, Shadow learns "Eggman" is really Eggman Nega, his descendant. After being bested once again, Eggman Nega plans to take a picture of the entire world, thus trapping it in a card, with his camera. The real Doctor Eggman is eventually rescued who escorts Shadow and Silver to Nega's space station to stop Nega's ultimatum. Assisted by Silver and Sonic in making his way through, Shadow is able to defeat Eggman Nega and Rouge is finally rescued. Shadow also appears on four of the 150 collectible cards in the game. He is featured on his own in cards 003 and 064, as a member of Team Dark in card 042, and as Super Shadow in card 147. In Sonic Rivals 2. He is confronted by Metal Sonic and Eggman via a speaker in Metal Sonic, and tells him that he needs help. Before he can ask questions, he and Metal Sonic find Espio and Silver. Curious as to why Silver has returned to the present, Shadow begins to follow Silver while Metal Sonic follows Espio. Eventually, Shadow forgets to ask the Doctor why he is helping him and just continues to work with Metal Sonic. Eggman then tells Shadow that Eggman Nega is trying to release the Ifrit with the seven Chaos Emeralds. He enters the Chaotic Inferno Zone to press a switch inside the dimension to seal the Ifrit in its own dimension and after engaging it in a battle, he and Metal Sonic proved to be victorious but they are trapped in the process. Metal Sonic tears himself open to reveal a Chaos Emerald, and Shadow uses Chaos Control to warp them back to their own dimension. In Sonic Colors, Shadow was at Asteroid Coaster seeking information when he found Sonic and Tails, and gave Sonic a mission to test out if Sonic was still capable of fighting Dr. Eggman. After the mission, Shadow declined any hint of concern for the duo, but Sonic took it as a compliment. Reuniting with E-123 Omega, Shadow and his friend discovered a secret amusement ride of Eggman's. On their way to investigate, they were joined by Sonic and Tails. They arrived at a lab where Tails discovered records of an experiment called Project "Mother" on the computers. Shadow was disappointed they did not find more to help, but Sonic just was just happy to find something and left. Omega then asked why Shadow gave Sonic information, to which Shadow said he was just happy to let Sonic do all the racing around. Omega found this hard to understand since Shadow and Sonic were equals, but Shadow just replied that data would not tell him everything, leaving the automaton stumped. In Sonic X Shadow Generations. During the dark beginnings, In a flash, Shadow jolts awake in the present day on a cliffside, clutching the yellow Chaos Emerald. Gasping for breath, he fires a blast at a nearby tree, realizing that everything he’d experienced was just a nightmare. As the dust settles, he looks up to the sky, seeing the shattered moon. He mentally comments on how this was no ordinary nightmare as he turns his gaze to the distant ARK leering back down at him, wondering if "he" could have survived. Determining that he needs answers after this unnerving event, he rushes off and soon Shadow is launching an assault on several of Eggman's samurai armor-clad Egg Pawns at Hidden Base. His goal is to reach a spacecraft that will take him to the ARK, as he suspects the Black Arms may have returned. He's joined by Rouge, who states that she's gathering intel for G.U.N. with E-123 Omega also on-scene and providing backup, though Rouge informs him that this is only a supply depot when he tells her of his intentions. After Team Dark focuses their efforts on and easily destroys a giant, autonomous Egg Breaker that shows up to the battle, Rouge tells Shadow she can take him to a spacecraft. However, she makes him promise to attend Sonic's birthday party in return, much to his chagrin. As the episode ends, she teasingly asks if he's interested in raiding a G.U.N. base. Team Dark infiltrates the base. While Rouge prepares the shuttle for launch, she comments on how G.U.N. funded the research that created Shadow, only to seal him away later; she raises this point to remind him not to seek any vendettas tonight. As a Blue Falcon mech confronts the trio, a grinning Shadow responds that G.U.N. isn’t his enemy tonight, just an obstacle in his path. During the battle, the mech fires at them, but Omega keeps it distracted as Shadow manages to grab one of the missiles and launch it back. The G.U.N. soldier inside narrowly avoids the counterattack by launching flares that disorient the missile. Undeterred, Shadow teleports on top of the battle mech and grabs the missile again as it passes by, hurling it directly into the vehicle's hull. The G.U.N. soldier tries to get a clear shot, but Shadow's teleporting makes it impossible to track him. As Shadow free-falls, the Blue Falcon fires a wave of homing missiles. Shadow destroys several in mid-air before using Chaos Control to freeze time, rapidly taking out the remaining missiles in a massive explosion. Shadow then Spin Attacks straight through the Blue Falcon, sending it tumbling out of the sky; the pilot panickedly tries to eject, to no avail. Shadow teleports onboard and forces the cockpit open, seemingly ready to attack him, but instead punches the mech itself, un-jamming the ejection mechanism and allowing the soldier to escape before the Blue Falcon crashes into the ground. Shadow then boards the elevator leading to the shuttle, although not before Omega complains to Shadow that he wanted to destroy the Blue Falcon. Shadow enters the space shuttle and informs Rouge that he’s ready for launch. Soon as the shuttle heads toward the Space Colony ARK, Shadow reflects on a possible future for Maria had the GUN raid that ended her life not occurred, thoughts that begin to have a negative effect on him. He acknowledges after stopping himself that said future was taken from him long ago and, as the episode ends, reaffirms that he needs to focus on the mission at hand: eliminating whatever threat lurks onboard the ARK. In shadow generations, During Sonic's birthday party, Shadow had been investigating an abnormal bio-signature on Space Colony ARK, which proved to be from a resurrected Black Doom. After being pulled into a Time Hole by the Time Eater, he learns that Black Doom was rebuilding the Black Arms and had plans to force Shadow to become the warrior Black Doom wanted him to be. As he explores White Space, he begins to manifest Doom Powers granted to him by Black Doom in order to warp his mind and body into a form the alien tyrant can control more effectively. He also reunites with Maria and Professor Gerald, who have been displaced from their own time by the anomalies unleashed by the Time Eater. Later in sonic generations, Shadow appears later on to motivate both Sonics, alongside Rouge and the all the other characters after their initial defeat against the Time Eater. After the Time Eater is defeated, Shadow shows up at Sonic's birthday party along with all the other characters. He is the only character who does not wave goodbye to Classic Sonic and Classic Tails in the end. In Sonic Free Riders, Shadow entered the World Grand Prix with Rouge the Bat as "Team Dark". While Rouge was only interested in the large cash prize and treasure that was given to the winners, Shadow's only interest was testing racing skills. When the World Grand Prix started, Shadow and Rouge were fifteen minutes late to the opening ceremony. When they arrived, Omochao complained about their tardiness, but Shadow remarked that he had no interest in formalities. Discontent with the rule that three members were required for a team, but accepting it nonetheless, Team Dark chose their third teammate, an E-10000B, on a whim. At the races, Team Dark was insulted by their first opponent, Team Babylon. However, Shadow mocked his opponents in return as his team kept beating them. After defeating Team Babylon, Shadow and his team faced Team Heroes. Though Sonic praised Shadow's earlier performance, Shadow replied that his opponents were no challenge for him. During their face-offs, E-10000B began to overheat, but Shadow showed the robot no sympathy. Insisting to continue the competition anyway, Shadow faced off against Sonic in a final race and won. Having beaten Team Heroes, Shadow told Sonic that he would never beat him. In the finals, Team Dark faced Team Rose and was just one race away from winning when E-10000B began to smoke. However, Shadow kept pressuring the robot to continue. The two teams then quickly began arguing over how Shadow and Rouge treated their teammate. In the end, E-10000B was moved to the repairing department, while the rest of Team Dark had a final race with Team Rose by themselves. After beating Team Rose, Shadow and Rouge went for the Grand Prix Headquarters unannounced and took the cash prize and treasure themselves. As they were leaving though, Omochao informed them that they had only taken the dummy drops for the display and that the real prize was locked away, meaning they had to attend the award ceremony to get it. Near the end of the World Grand Prix, Team Dark and the other teams came down with an equal amount of victories, and Shadow came to the award ceremony with the others to collect their prize. Once there, they were all told by Dr. Eggman (under his alias, King Doc) that they had one more race against his Gear-jockey robots. Shadow and Sonic quickly saw through Eggman's ruse, but the doctor had them race anyway. After the race, however, Eggman revealed himself and announced that that he had been collecting all the data on the racers in the Grand Prix with his E-10000 to make the ultimate Extreme Gear that he could use for his own agenda and challenged them all to a race. After beating Eggman though, Shadow noticed that E-10000B was spewing out a lot of smoke. Metal Sonic then revealed himself as the one controlling E-10000B and passing fake data to Eggman, explaining for the doctor's loss. Shadow and the others then watched as Metal Sonic challenged Sonic the Hedgehog to a race, which the robot lost. Afterwards, it was revealed that Eggman never had any prize to give to the winners of the World Grand Prix. However, Shadow remarked that it was nothing new to him, just like the doctor's other schemes. In Team Sonic Racing, Shadow and his team joined Dodon Pa's Grand Prix alongside Dr. Eggman and his team. However, Team Dark's true intentions for joining the Grand Prix was to investigate Dr. Eggman.[12] In that Grand Prix awaited opponents like Team Sonic, Team Rose and Team Vector. For the races, Shadow received the Dark Reaper to race in. During a race between Team Dark and Team Sonic, Shadow focused solely on Sonic as they raced neck-to-neck in their speed-type race cars. Eventually however, Dr. Eggman intruded on the teams' race in order to compete against them on his own as a "special guest" (which Dodon Pa permitted despite knowing it was a lie). After Eggman began gaining the lead, Shadow, his team, and Team Sonic all agreed to put their feud aside and work together to keep Eggman from winning the race. Instructing his team to follow Team Sonic's example (only better), Shadow received a Slingshot speed boost from his team that allowed him to pass Eggman alongside Sonic. Shadow and Sonic would afterward pass the finish line while the others took care of Eggman with a combined Wisp power-up assault. However, Dodon Pa was too busy watching Eggman's beating to see which one between Sonic and Shadow crossed the finish line first. As such, the two hedgehog decided to have a rematch. Eventually, Shadow met Sonic after a race, who wanted to know if he was working with Dr. Eggman. Shadow replied grimly that he was only in the Grand Prix to stop whatever evil plans Eggman was cooking up. However, the two hedgehogs' egos soon clashed, and Shadow and Sonic ended up challenging each other to a race. Afterward, they agreed that they had to watch out for both Dodon Pa, whose motivations for hosting the Grand Prix was a mystery, and Eggman. Soon after, Shadow learned that Eggman and Dodon Pa were seemingly working together. Since they did not know what the pair was up to though, the heroes decided to keep racing for now. Later, Eggman would sent hundreds of Eggpawns after the racers. As Shadow set out to slag the robots with his team, he would end up competing with Sonic over who could beat the most Eggpawns. Later, after it was revealed that Dodon Pa was a good guy and that he was using the Grand Prix to gather information for his corporation's Ultimate Energy Engine, which Dodon Pa wanted to use for philanthropic purposes, Shadow came to Sonic and reminded him that they still had Eggman to worry about. Soon after, the heroes learned from Big that Eggman had kidnapped Dodon Pa and brought him to the Final Fortress. Wanting to rescue Dodon Pa, Shadow and co. went to the Final Fortress. There, Eggman had them compete in a number of races with Team Eggman and his army of Eggpawns in exchange for Dodon Pa, not knowing Eggman was using them to gather the Ultimate Team Energy needed to finish the Ultimate Energy Engine. Once the engine was complete, Eggman stole it from Dodon Pa and incorporated it into his Death Egg. Shadow and his crew subsequently faced the Death Egg, and beat it in a race. However, the Death Egg soon after went crazy and drove into the Final Fortress's core. As the Final Fortress crashed, Shadow and his comrades were forced to abandon their cars and evacuate the airship while Team Sonic saved Dodon Pa. Down on the ground, Shadow was reunited with Team Sonic when they arrived with Dodon Pa. Just as the Grand Prix seemed over since the cars had been destroyed when the Final Fortress crashed, Dodon Pa decided to give everyone new cars, thus allowing Shadow and his allies to race once more. During Sonic forces: Episode shadow, Several months prior to Sonic Forces, Shadow was on his way to Eggman's Facility to destroy the base. Along the way, he wiped out the Jackal Squad defense unit and easily defeated their captain, whom Shadow told to never show his face to him again, before heading in to destroy the facility. A couple of months later, Shadow and his team went on a reconnaissance mission regarding the Arsenal Pyramid. After being informed by Rouge that Omega went ahead of him, Shadow headed out to join up with him. After Omega, who attacked the base instead of investigating it stealthily, lost all communications with Rouge however, he went in search of the robot at his last recorded coordinates. There, Shadow met Infinite, a mysterious being who had just defeated Omega. As Infinite ridiculed Omega, Shadow demanded answers from the unfamiliar entity. It was then that Infinite revealed that he was the Jackal Squad's captain, and that his loss to Shadow drove him to get assimilated with Eggman's finalized Phantom Ruby copy so he could never be as weak as he once was. Infinite then promptly repaid Shadow by trapping him in an illusion via the Phantom Ruby prototype's properties. Shadow ultimately escaped both the illusion and the doomed facility they were in, although not before learning that Infinite planned to overpower Sonic with his newfound abilities. About a month later, in sonic forces, Shadow learned from Rouge that Sonic was in trouble, with the hedgehog already suspecting Infinite's presence thanks to the latter's final words to him beforehand, although he was seemingly unable to make it in time to help Sonic as he was overpowered by Infinite in the City and taken to the rebuilt Death Egg, leaving the world to assume him dead and lose hope of defeating Eggman quickly. Shadow eventually discovered an imposter was wrecking havoc in his name. This imposter turned out to be a heartless and soulless Phantom Copy created by Infinite, who served as a soldier in the Eggman Army, alongside Phantom Copies of Metal Sonic, Chaos and Zavok. This Phantom Copy, along with the others and Infinite, allowed the Eggman Empire to conquer over 99% of the world. Six months later, when Sonic confronted the Shadow Phantom Copy in Sunset Heights, Shadow destroyed his Phantom Copy when it tried to attack Sonic, using his Chaos Control to freeze time right before the Phantom Copy could strike and delivering a roundhouse kick to take it out in one hit. Linking up with the Resistance, Shadow revealed to them the true nature of Infinite's Phantom Copies and virtual reality powers, and joined the Resistance in the war against the Eggman Empire. He had Rouge collect intelligence regarding where they could locate Eggman's files on the Phantom Ruby and its power source, leading to Classic Sonic and Tails hitting the Chemical Plant for the data. Eventually, Shadow took part in the final battle between the Resistance and the Eggman Army at the Eggman Empire Fortress, which the Resistance sought to break into in order to destroy the reactor powering the Phantom Rubies and win the war. Just as Shadow and the others got pushed back by Infinite however, Omega, fully operational again, came and distracted the villain. After that, Infinite put Eggman's endgame into effect: using his Phantom Ruby prototype, he created a virtual sun above the planet to drop on the Resistance with and kill them all. While Shadow awaited the outcome however, the sun was neutralized by the Avatar. Shadow then reengaged the Eggman Army while Sonic and the Avatar defeated Infinite and destroyed the Phantom Rubies' reactor. However, when Eggman entered the battlefield with a Death Egg Robot armed with the original Phantom Ruby, which was powered by the mech itself, the doctor began producing thousands of Phantom Copies that threatened to overwhelm Shadow and the Resistance. Fortunately, Shadow and the Resistance were saved when Sonic, Classic Sonic and the Avatar destroyed the Death Egg Robot, causing the Eggman Army's Phantom Copies to vanish and leaving the Resistance as the winners of the war. In the aftermath, Shadow, alongside Sonic's other allies, bid farewell to Classic Sonic as he returned to the past due to the Phantom Ruby being gone, and vowed to rebuild the world. Afterwards, back at the Resistance HQ, he watched the Avatar leave to go on their own adventure after the Resistance got disbanded. In IDW, Approximately a month after the Eggman War from Sonic forces, Shadow and Rouge found Dr. Eggman, who had lost his memory and taken up the identity as "Mr. Tinker," in Windmill Village, dealing and becoming friendly with Sonic and Team Chaotix. After Tinker mentioned Eggmanland however, Shadow revealed his and Rouge's presence and got ready to destroy the doctor. Although Sonic tried telling Shadow that Eggman's amnesia was legitimate and that he was now a good man that did not deserve the punishment Shadow had planned, Shadow did not care, as he believed the doctor was still highly dangerous even without his memory. Eventually, their disagreement came to blows. While they raced around and fought however, Sonic convinced Shadow that Eggman was not beyond forgiveness, just like Shadow was in spite of his past attempt to destroy the world. As Shadow began discussing with Sonic about what to do with Eggman though, he realized that Sonic had intentionally led him away. Returning to the village and slipping past the Chaotix, Shadow assured Rouge that he had talked it over with Sonic when she tried getting in-between him and Eggman. As such, instead of eliminating Tinker, Shadow had him show him Eggman Land, which turned out to be a small amusement park he had made for children. Convinced that Eggman was now a good man who deserved to be forgiven and live in peace, Shadow took his leave with Rouge. Eventually, Shadow was called to Resistance HQ. There, he and the Resistance's other allies were informed that the Resistance needed their help to liberate Angel Island, which had been conquered by Neo Metal Sonic and turned into a flying fortress. To make matters worse, Neo had also secured the Master Emerald for himself on the island. Eventually, Shadow was assigned to help two of the assembled group's factions with breaking the Egg Fleet's control over Angel Island while Sonic and Knuckles confronted Neo. While heading for Angel Island in a Resistance Battleship, Rouge would inquire Shadow about why he went along with this team-up, to which Shadow replied that he was "here for [his] own reasons". As soon as their ship approached Angel Island however, the Egg Fleet shot it down. By the time everyone had evacuated the ship and made it to Angel Island though, Shadow had already left the group to do his own thing. In truth, Shadow had gone in search of the greatest threat on the island: Neo Metal Sonic. Appearing inside Neo Metal Sonic's stronghold on Angel Island where Super Neo Metal Sonic had Sonic and Knuckles at his mercy, Shadow attacked Super Neo Metal Sonic by stabbing a Chaos Spear through his torso, forcing him to revert back to his previous form. Shadow then laid the smackdown on Neo Metal Sonic until he was held back by Sonic, who was concerned that Neo Metal Sonic would copy his bio-data. It was then that Neo Metal Sonic revealed that Eggman had removed the limitation that kept him from achieving his final form. To achieve his full power, all he needed was Sonic and Shadow's bio-data in addition to the Master Emerald's power. As Neo Metal Sonic grew in power, Shadow and Knuckles tried in vain to attack him. However, Shadow was forced to evacuate the stronghold along with Sonic and Knuckles once the structure started to fold into Neo Metal Sonic. The ground soon after began to rumble and Knuckles noted that the Master Emerald had been cut off from Angel Island―without its power, the island would fall. Meanwhile, Neo Metal Sonic grew into a form more monstrous than the last―dubbing it Master Overlord―and demanded that Sonic bowed to him. After tangling briefly with Master Overlord, Shadow, Sonic and Knuckles got grabbed and flown away by the giant robot, who wanted them to see him destroy their allies, who were onboard an Egg Fleet battleship. It was then that Sonic came up with a plan: if they could drive Master Overlord closer to Angel Island and rip the Master Emerald out of him, they could deprive the robot of his power source and save the island. When the trio finally escaped Master Overlord's grasp, Shadow and Sonic focused on attacking Master Overlord's wings while Knuckles went for the Master Emerald. Soon after, Shadow was joined in his efforts by the rest of his allies, and together they forced Master Overlord back towards Angel Island. During the battle, Shadow got shaken off Master Overlord, but was rescued by Silver with his psychokinesis. Knuckles subsequently got the Master Emerald away from Master Overlord and brought it back to Angel Island, returning the island to the sky while Master Overlord powered down to normal. With the battle over, Shadow was brought down on Angel Island where he promptly took his leave. When the restored Dr. Eggman headed towards Sunset City in his Faceship to create a Zombot outbreak in the city, Shadow began heading there to intercept Eggman with the aid of his team.[9] When a Zombot outbreak occurred in the city anyway, Shadow took it upon himself to find a transport for the uninfected citizens. Shadow eventually arrived at the Grand Gold Flicky Hotel with a truck but not before ramming several Zombots on the east side out of the way for Sonic and Omega. Shadow soon after entered an argument with Sonic, who had arrived to help with the evacuation after getting infected with the Metal Virus, and reminded him that if he had eliminated Eggman, the Metal Virus would not be a problem for them in the first place. Before Sonic took off to burn off his infection by running, Shadow told him that he deserved to be infected. As he left, Sonic also told Shadow that he should be able to run his infection into remission if he got infected. While Shadow was aware of this, he noted that he was not going to run away. Shadow then got Omega to safeguard the truck while Rouge oversaw evacuation of the uninfected citizens. In the meantime, Shadow began fighting the Zombots, intending to eliminate them. While fighting the Zombots, Shadow claimed that, as the Ultimate Lifeform, he could not get infected by the Metal Virus. After fighting the Zombots for a while though, Shadow was surprised to see that the Metal Virus had infected him too. Ignoring Rouge's request to fall back, Shadow opted to continue fighting the Zombots. Unfortunately, Shadow was soon overwhelmed by the sheer number of Zombots, which completed his transformation into one. When Sonic later arrived on the scene once again, the zombified Shadow pushed him back against the truck. Shadow fiercely fought Sonic until the latter kicked him back into the crowd of Zombots. Once Shadow spotted Rouge taking off in the truck, he chased after it. As Shadow in his Zombot form did not know how to properly use his Air Shoes, Sonic easily caught up to his rival. Shadow threw him back and attempted to lunge at him. He was instead grabbed by Omega and slammed into the ground. When Shadow got up, he climbed onto Omega and ripped his chest open. Sonic Spin Attacked Shadow and tried to reason to him but to no avail. Shadow continued to fight Sonic back until he and the Zombots were lifted into the air by Silver's psychokinesis. After Silver released them, Shadow immediately lunged at Silver. The hedgehog narrowly dodged his attack and escaped with Tails, leaving Shadow in Sunset City. After the Deadly Six had taken over Eggman's plans, Zavok used his powers to lead a large horde of Zombots to Angel Island, which included Shadow. After the Faceship was effectively destroyed by Rouge, Zavok became Giant Zavok to attack the survivors on Angel Island. From this, he grabbed a handful of Zombots, including Shadow, and threw them onto the island's surface to face the survivors there. Knuckles directly confronted the Zombot Shadow by punching him. Unfazed, Shadow retaliated by hitting him back. Knuckles proceeded to punch Shadow into the ground until the echidna fully succumbed to his infection and became a Zombot himself. Shadow and Knuckles then turned to Tails, who was being infected by Cheese and Chocola. Eventually, with the combined efforts of Super Sonic and Super Silver, they were able to warp the entirety of the Metal Virus away from the world and to the sun. This act turned both Shadow and Knuckles back to normal. The duo acknowledged each other before both angrily turning to Rouge, who wanted to selfishly spend her final moments lying down on the Master Emerald before being inevitably infected. Shadow went down to the surface with the others but did not help them in securing Zavok, who wanted to wreak more havoc. Later on, when Metal Sonic critically injured Gemerl in order to retrieve Orbot and Cubot, Shadow quickly took off after him. Eggman was attempting to make his getaway via a Rescue Shuttle but landed on a cliff. As Shadow skated up the cliff to get closer, Metal Sonic hits him back down with an elbow. The two struggled with each other, prompting Shadow to deliver a strike with the fire from his rocket skates. Metal Sonic was slightly burned by this but still charged at Shadow. The hedgehog did the same and hit the robot with a Spin Attack. Metal Sonic locked in on Shadow approaching him again and countered his Spin Attacks with his own Spin Attacks. Shadow attempted one more Spin Attack against Metal Sonic, only for the robot to charge up and use the Ring Spark Field to create a burst of energy and push Shadow back down. Shadow lay down in the debris of trees but quickly came to and saw the Rescue Shuttle taking off again. The hedgehog tried to catch up to the ship but failed to reach it in time, much to his anger. Sometime later, Shadow went to Forest Hill alone. He was later found by Rouge, who told him that he was hard to track. She told him that the Deadly Six were laying low and not causing much trouble. Additionally, she could not find Sonic or Omega anywhere. Rouge questioned if Shadow was actually listening, to which he stated that he was. She then asked him why he was brooding more. Thinking to himself, Shadow stated that he initially believed that Sonic telling him to run was cowardice and not a warning. That mistake took him out of the fight and he was in disbelief at himself, the Ultimate Lifeform, miscalculating like that. When Rouge said that if he could not talk about it she would leave it be, Shadow turned to her and said that he owed Sonic, but now he was gone and that was all to it. Rouge smirked and touched Shadow's shoulder. As she began to leave, she told Shadow of the party that was going to be hosted at Spiral Hill Village that night but he passed on it. Having heard a rumor about a bot-trader in White Park Zone that could have a connection to Eggman, Shadow went there. On the road, he came across Amy, Rouge, Cream, Cheese, and Gemerl all of whom had to swerve off the road in order to avoid running into him. Amy tried to convince Shadow to stay with them because they wanted to rebuild Omega, but Shadow declined and left. Later on, on the roof of White Park Grand Chateau, Shadow decided that he had hit a dead end. He also considered for a moment to help out Amy and Rouge. Suddenly though, he saw a hooded figure running away across the roof. Shadow chased after the figure, thinking that person could be working for Eggman. For a moment though, he was surprised when the figure managed to evade him. When he finally caught the figure though, the figure knocked him off the roof with a log they pulled out of the building. As he fell, Shadow held onto a card from the mysterious figure's cloak.[16] Falling into a lake below, Shadow recovered and saw that the card he had grabbed was the business card of Clutch the Opossum, the local Eggman tech trader. Shadow thus decided to pay him a visit, believing that he would find nothing useful in the crowd at the White Park Grand Chateau. When he got into Clutch's suite, his suspicions were confirmed when he found Eggman tech everywhere. He also found a group of Chao that Clutch was holding in a cage, leaving him with a silent and angry response towards Clutch's poor treatment towards them. A moment later, he heard the voice of Omega, whom Rouge had left with Clutch to carry out a plan to turn the tables on Clutch later. Shadow, however made some changes, and as soon as Rouge and her allies showed up in the suite, he knocked out Clutch. He then showed them the group the caged Chao, before going out to find a "real challenge.". Shadow eventually found the hooded figure who hit him earlier on a moving roller coaster in White Park Zone. During his chase after the figure, he saved Sonic when he got knocked off the rails by the hooded figure. As the two hedgehogs then chased after the figure together, he revealed himself to be Dr. Starline, who was in the process of kidnapping Tails and Rouge. To make matters worse, he also triggered some explosives above the White Park Grand Chateau, causing an avalanche. He then gave the two hedgehogs a choice: save their friends from him, or save the hotel guests at White Park Grand Chateau from the avalanche.[18] Ultimately, Shadow decided to ignore the guests at the White Park Grand Chateau and went to fight Starline instead, ignoring Tails and Rouge along the way. However, when Shadow was about to fight Starline, Rouge gave Omega his codeword, who scared Starline with a loud alarm, which made Starline fall off the roller coaster. Starline then ran away, which displeased Shadow. Shadow did not want to listen to Rouge, but Rouge convinced him that he would have to live with the choice he made. Shadow thus decided to help Sonic stop the avalanche and joined up with him at the mountain, saying that he was paying off his debt for Sunset City. The two then felled nearby trees to form a barricade. Despite this though, the avalanche broke through their barricade, prompting the hedgehogs to chase after the avalanche. After the avalanche collided with the chateau, which withstood the impact, the guests had made it to safety. Shadow and Sonic had been buried by the snow however, but they managed to quickly dig themselves out. Afterward, they received congratulations from their friends. However, Shadow saw it as a waste of time. Going then to Tails' Workshop afterward, Sonic told Shadow that though things got dicey, he was glad that he helped. In response, Shadow told Sonic not to think too much about it. He then threw an apple he was holding to Clutch's formerly imprisoned Dark Chao. Shadow joined Team Dark in a mission to destroy Eggperial City. As they started to fight the Badnik Horde, Sonic and Tails found them. Amy, Blaze, and Silver later joined them. Sonic welcomed their effort to take down the city, but Shadow wasn't interested or cared about what Sonic had to say. He paid no mind to them as Rouge explained why they were there. Shortly after, Doctor Eggman spoke over the city's PA to introduce his self-repairing and self-building city to them. Eggman then said he had something for this situation he had been saving for a while. He then released a horde of Shadow Androids from a Blowfish Transporter to attack and "welcome" the group, much to Shadow's shock. Shadow and Team Dark were able to hold off the Androids, but Rouge got worried about their situation. Shadow said Eggman was trying to overwhelm them with numbers and the Androids have no strategy. He says if they get in a better position, they can take them out. The other heroes then come to help fight them. Sonic calls the Androids Shadow's cousins, but Shadow tells him they are cheap copies that don't deserve his face. A few moments later, Omega tripped over some fallen Androids and was taken down by the horde. Rouge asks Shadow to use his Chaos powers, but Shadow says he can't without a Chaos Emerald. Tails tells them the crystals in the city generate Chaos energy. Shadow understands their energy is distorted and is disgusted by using Fake Emeralds, but he agrees to use them. Shadow then performed Chaos Control to take out nearly all the Shadow Androids. Before he can perform it again, the energy becomes too much for him and Giant Fake Emeralds start to grow all around him. He lets out a beacon of energy and Rouge is forced to abandon him to be safe. The hedgehog fell into the Memorial Garage and was trapped by Giant Fake Chaos Emeralds. A search party of Rouge, Silver, and Blaze went to find him and Omega. Rouge was able to find Shadow and flew over to get him out, but some Shadow Androids blocked her way. The group fought them and once Omega made an opening, the other three went to Shadow. The Chaos energy was too powerful for Rouge and Blaze to get close. With some motivation from Blaze, Silver was able to remove the Emeralds to get to Shadow.[20] Shadow told Silver to get away and the Chaos Energy was building like a noise in his head. He told Silver again to leave and his effort was no use. Silver refused, saying they were not going to give up so easily. He reminded Shadow he was the ultimate lifeform and he wouldn't let some rocks tell him what to do. Silver then broke the emeralds holding Shadow down and thanks to Silver's words, Shadow's mind was made clear. By controlling the Fake Emeralds, Shadow made a giant tower of them with him and his rescuers on it. Doctor Eggman began firing at the tower Shadow made with his now mobile central tower of the city. Shadow then used the Emeralds to start attacking Eggman. He explained the Emeralds were now under his control and Eggman had made his own trap with the city. Shadow then used Chaos Control trap the tower in Eggman's Fake Emeralds. Once Sonic destroyed the tower, Shadow told Silver to protect the others before all the Emeralds in the city exploded. With nearly everyone near Silver, Shadow used Chaos Control to send all the Emeralds far into the sky, where they exploded. Shadow went with Rouge to the abandoned mine to help Sonic with the Warp Topaz. Shadow stated to Sonic he hated the thought of a power like the topaz winding up in the hands of "fools". When the Babylon Rogues went to where Shadow and the others were in the mine, Shadow offered Sonic a choice: give him the topaz or have him take it by force. Sonic refused to give it to him and drilled himself out of the mine, leaving a portal behind created by the topaz. Jet told the other Rogues to kick the "wanna-be ultimate lifeform" through the portal so they can get the gold in the mine. Shadow heard his insult and then blasted them through the portal using his Chaos powers. In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow reluctantly boarded the Mirage Express to celebrate Amy Rose's birthday party, where he agreed to participate in her live-action murder mystery game. Upon drawing a role card, he was assigned the position of "the locksmith" and stationed inside the Lounge Car. Taking his fictional role surprisingly seriously, Shadow spent his time reading a detailed textbook on complex locking mechanisms to perfect his performance. When Sonic was discovered unconscious, Shadow became a prime suspect. He was subsequently interrogated in the Library Car by Miles "Tails" Prower and a train hand. Though he initially focused on retrieving a rare, limited-edition Froggy plush toy, he soon realized a sinister force was hijacking the train. Shadow joined his allies to stop the rogue Conductor AI, utilizing a precise Chaos Control strategy to teleport the entire group directly into the engine room. This allowed them to rescue Sonic, destroy the weaponized Eggman badnik, and safely escape. Sometime after The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, in the Rainstorm Forest, the Interceptor comes out to attack again when suddenly Shadow appears and takes the badnik down. Rouge also appears and greets the boys, when Vector asks her what she is doing there. She responds that she was hired to look for intel of Clean Sweep Inc. after its' crimes were exposed during the Clean Sweepstakes event, which Vector comments the Chaotix should've been contacted to do so. Sonic asks Shadow why he is there as well, and the latter responds it is only because he dislikes Clutch's work. Sonic then asks where Omega is, and Rouge responds she needed a precision touch, which is hard with a destructive machine like Omega. While Vector once again claims the Chaotix can handle the situation, Shadow suddenly notices something and orders for everyone to be quiet. After a minute of silence, three more Interceptors appear from the trees. Vector rips out an Interceptor's antenna, and Charmy takes advantage of it to take control over the badnik, almost accidentally hitting Vector in the process. Sonic and Shadow work together to fight three Interceptor, successfully taking them down; when Sonic compliments how cool they are, Shadow even smiles a little. Soon everyone meets up at the entrance of the facility. While Clutch's confessions about the Clean Sweep's state are shown to be true, the Interceptor ambush seemed to have been planned, which rises suspicions on Vector; Sonic claims Clutch is a creep and believes he could've set this ambush for anyone who came too close, Vector believes this might be true and decided to consider the case ongoing for now. Rouge claims the boys will have many opportunities to investigate, as she downloaded a copy of all the Clean Sweep facilities to their flash drive, and to hers as well. Upon hearing this, Shadow snatches Rouge's flash drive from her hand and puts it on his device. Shadow decides to use this intel to track down each Clean Sweep facility and neutralize them. Vector, once again, remarks how the Chaotix are experts in investigation and offer to help, and Sonic offers too as a fun run to smash bots, but Shadow declines, much to the Chaotix's disappointment. Shadow then tells Rouge he will keep her up to date before teleporting off. Shadow along with Rouge head to the Grand Carnival in the city of Sequin, Rouge in formal wear, Shadow unapologetically not. Tails and Rouge trade stories about how their respective emeralds were stolen from them, and their shared plan to monitor the one on display. Sonic asks Shadow if he's here for the emerald too, while Shadow admits he is not, nor is he there for the party. They lie in wait among costumed crowds donning masks and formal wear, while utilizing colorful masks themselves. The quartet is then interrupted by the announcement of the Celestial Troupe, acrobatic artists that have an act to entertain the guests. A protective shield is placed around the emerald during the performance, though Rouge still comments it would make a great distraction. During the next part of the Troupe's traipsing act, smoke erupts, the performance goes awry, and someone emerges from the fray with the emerald. The costumed figure quickly introduces as Lunar, Master thief, and hightails away with the emerald, expertly maneuvering through the security. Though as Rouge makes her first move, it's clear she wants to be the one claiming the emerald. Shadow commands the crowd to "MOVE!" as he and Rouge speed after Lunar. Suddenly the two catch up, and Tails flings Sonic at Lunar, sending the pair crashing into parade balloons. when Shadow crashes into their balloon causing Sonic and Lunar to scramble away. Sonic argues with Shadow that he and Tails have a plan for the emerald and that they should work together, but Shadow dismisses this, saying that he's seen the two track down emeralds before. Sonic speaks in Tails' defense of the plan, saying it's a good one, but Lunar interrupts the hedgehogs, prompting them to give pursuit. As the four race for Lunar, Tails voices concern that if they weren't careful, all of them could cause damage in the chase, especially Shadow. Sonic is in the middle of thinking when Rouge throws a handful of bombs to slow the boys down. Temporarily blinded, Sonic slips from Tails' grip though he quickly maneuvers onto a nearby hot-air-balloon-like device. Sonic prompts Tails to take care of Rouge while he would handle Shadow. The hedgehog then proceeds to taunt Shadow with comments of speed and relying on Rouge, trying to bait him away. While Shadow does not fall for it, he takes up Sonic when he exclaims the only way he was getting the emerald was through him. The two speed away while Tails confronts Rouge. Meanwhile, Sonic finds Lunar at the bridge standing there playfully waiting. He tries a different tactic, trying to get the masked culprit to talk to him instead, asking what Lunar wanted. When Shadow cuts in, he states how he has no interest in Lunar's 'backstory'. He demands Lunar to give him the Chaos Emerald, despite Sonics protests that they needed answers. This prompts a fight between the two hedgehogs, while Shadow argues that Sonic can get answers after he has the emerald. After a short tussle, Sonic ends up on the ground and Shadow comments that he doesn't look mad about his position. Sonic exclaims with a smirk that he got exactly what he wanted, and Shadow notices the crowd backing away from the two with uneasy expressions, Lunar nowhere to be seen. Miffed about being played, Shadow storms off with Rouge in tow, asking what was wrong.[24] Later on, Rouge relies on her treasure hunter's intuition, believes the situation will resolve itself and suggests waiting in a café, much to Shadow's impatient frustration. He storms off to "make his own luck," while Rouge calmly enjoys a croissant. Soon, Shadow dropped from the sky and grabbed Soleil away for stealing the chaos emerald. Apogee and Perigee fought Shadow with Sonic and Tails. When Tails took Soleil away, Sonic tried to Shadow out of it, but Shadow demanded that the emerald could only be safe when handed to him properly. And so, Sonic and Shadow continued to fight. While they were fighting, Rouge attacked Soleil with a surprise and got the emerald. Shadow agreed that the emerald is safer with her than in Sonic's hands. So, Rouge and Shadow got hold of the emerald and Soleil's back with their family. Soon, Shadow and the others watched the arrival of Dr. Eggman and his Egg Juggler and had to get to higher ground as he pushed in was onto the bridge. Shortly, Shadow asked Rouge for the emerald and after Rouge hesitated a bit, she gave him the emerald and in return ask him to take her out to the best cafe in town. The Egg Juggler falls while holding on to a pillar Shadow, Rouge and the rest of the Celestial Troupe are on. They run immediately with Rouge saying how she will follow Shadow's lead with the Celestial Troupe behind them. Eggman then says how he came here for fun to get some ideas for his theme park. The Egg Juggler recovers as Eggman launches toward the sky as Shadow attacks with Chaos Spear but which further frustrates Eggman that he is here with an emerald. Sonic then ask Shadow to destroy the Badnik before they reach the city. Suddenly a Bell hits Rouge causing her to fall but is caught by Shadow to Rouge's surprise to Shadow saving her, but he responds saying it's the perfect opportunity to use Chaos Control but is interrupted after being hit by Eggman causing Eggman to get the emerald and use it to power his robot. Eggman then hits all the heroes and saying how the power is at 110% percent while generating chainsaws. Sonic annoyingly tells Shadow and Rouge nice going to giving Eggman the emerald. Soon Shadow and Sonic run off with Shadow saying he will claim the emerald form its smoking wreckage. Sonic tells Eggman that chainsaws won't hold them back with Eggman annoying telling them to hold still when Eggman suddenly launches missiles and Sonic and Shadow deflect them back to the robot. Suddenly Eggman hits a nearby building with citizens on it who are falling but are saved by Apogee, Prgee and Yaw, Pitch and Roll who Perigee tells them to continue their fight while they keep the citizens safe and Sonic thanks them. Rouge then asks them to let her know once "her" emerald is found, and Shadow who is not taken by this catches Sonic's attention, asking if he doesn't want it anymore and Shadow respond saying how the threat is gone and that when he needs it again, he can simply claim it. Sonic responds saying how he's one in a billon. In Sonic Dream Team, Shadow uses the green Chaos Emerald to use Chaos Control where he finds Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, and Eggman in a deep slumber. Upon entering the Dreamscapes, Shadow witnesses the emerald streaking across the sky like a comet before it lands in the distance. He retrieves it, regaining its power, which he then uses throughout his journey to ultimately escape the Dreamscapes. In Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Shadow would be invited by Dodon Pa to compete in the CrossWorld Grand Prix and he would ride in an upgraded version of the Dark Reaper machine which can transform to function on land, seas or air. Shadow along with Rouge and Omega would get the invitation from Dodon Pa to meet at E-Stadium for the race. Sonic shrugs off Jet's banter and heads over to Shadow. He asks Shadow why he is here and jokes about how he missed him so much he had to show up, and Shadow responds telling Sonic to give him real competition. They soon start the race, and Jet tells Shadow how he's going to take him down first before Sonic and Shadow responds saying he's pathetic and all talk. Soon Sonic catches up to Jet and Shadow and ask why there arguing and Jet uses the Warp Ring and lands on Sonic's Speedster Lightning and then is sliced in half by the Slicer item used by Shadow as the two drive off ahead. The two would be neck and neck as Jet chooses the Dinosaur Jungle and Sonic once again is trapped between Jet and Shadow to which he asks what's the problem. The racers are teleported to Hidden World on Lost Hex and Sonic once again tries to catch up to Shadow and Jet who leave Sonic behind and race each other instead eventually warping to Roulette Road. Once there, Shadow would look back not long after Eggman is knocked out of the race causing everyone to crash back at the stadium's finish line. Dodon Pa then meets them and confirms that everyone won and soon calls all the racers over for a picture and after everyone got out of order Shadow would walk of out of frustration. During one of the races, Shadow enters a garage, getting his Dark Reaper ready to race. After finishing the vehicle's customizations, he jumps in, starts it up, and drives through a Ring Gate that warps him to the starting line, where the other racers await. Moments later, the lights turn green, and the racers take off. As Shadow fends off Wave and Storm, who try to ram his vehicle, Jet grabs an Item Box containing a Triple Homing Punch and immediately launches it. A series of explosions erupts across the track, forcing racers to swerve wildly. Shadow skillfully weaves through the chaos and catches up to the Babylon Rogues, ramming each of them off the track one by one. He then enters a Travel Ring, transporting him to the Dragon Road. Now racing through the Chinese dragon-themed course, Rouge finds herself caught between Dr. Eggman, armed with three Spiked Iron Balls, and Sage, who wields three Black Bombs. Just as they prepare to attack, a Warp Ring opens, and Shadow bursts through, braking just in time to knock Rouge out of harm's way. Despite his interference, Eggman and Sage unleash their power-ups, but Shadow dodges the ensuing explosions. He and Rouge exchange a quick glance before she activates a Cyan Laser, boosting ahead. Shadow then slams into the final Black Bomb, sending it straight at Eggman. Sage swerves in to take the hit, eliminating herself from the race. Eggman counters by activating a Monster Truck power-up to surge forward just as the racers plunge into the water, triggering their vehicle transformations. As they speed across the waves, the Dark Gaia Phoenix emerges, firing rows of pinions that take out Knuckles, Silver, and eventually Eggman. Rouge is also struck and thrown from her vehicle, but Shadow saves her by launching the Slime power-up, cushioning her fall. Now, only Sonic and Shadow remain. They burst through one final Travel Ring into Donpa Factory, where the two hedgehogs aggressively clash, ramming each other in a battle for first place. Shadow uses a White Wisp to gain the lead, but Sonic quickly responds with one of his own. The intensity builds as their vehicles blaze with speed, leaving fiery trails and sparks that culminate in a powerful explosion, launching them into the air. As the finish line nears, Shadow's vehicle edges just ahead of Sonic's, crossing the line first to claim victory. Landing smoothly, Shadow races off as the short ends. Personality: Being, in many ways, Sonic's polar opposite,[5] Shadow has a much more reserved and colder disposition. He usually acts with a cool indifference, rarely showing his vulnerable side. He is seldom seen with others for an extended period of time and usually distances himself from everyone whom he does not trust. He is usually blunt and rarely bluffs; if he makes a threat, he has every intention of carrying it out. As one of the more violent characters in the series at times,[5] Shadow's ruthlessness and aggression lead to his enemies never treating him lightly. Alongside his often dark demeanor, Shadow can be arrogant and stubborn. He usually treats others in a very callous manner, throwing in his opinion no matter how cold-hearted it is and caring little for the response. Shadow is also shown to have a sharp wit; during the Space Colony ARK incident, after being called a faker by Sonic, he replied that the latter was not worth being considered his fake.[37] Shadow is a rather conflicted character, often experiencing painful flashbacks and still deeply affected by his troubled past.[5] On one occasion, during the Space Colony ARK incident, seeing police sirens triggered an intense flashback to Maria's death. Even prior to the events of the ARK raid, Shadow demonstrated some degree of self-doubt, most notably expressing frustration over how, despite being created as the Ultimate Lifeform as a means to cure various maladies, he is still unable to help his friend Maria, questioning whether he has a place on the planet.[38] Similarly, largely because of his creation involving Black Doom, Shadow during this time showed signs of self-loathing, seeing himself as no better than any other Black Arm.[39] Shadow was soon able to overcome this in the Black Arm and Emerl Incidents, during which he chose to move on from the past while continuing to keep Maria in his heart. Despite still being weighed by his past, Shadow has chosen to confront it, not forgetting what he has experienced, but refusing to let it hold him back or stop him from fulfilling Maria's final wish to help humanity.[40] Shadow originally had disdain for humanity, being a misanthrope, but rarely attacked them outright, merely looking at them as a distant observer. During the events of the Space Colony ARK incident, Shadow was planning to destroy the planet both ordered by Gerald Robotnik through brainwashing, and as revenge for the death of his only friend, Maria Robotnik. Shadow eventually moves past his hatred for humanity by remembering his promise to Maria. Later on, Shadow decided to protect humanity and those on earth to honor Maria's dying wish despite their original misgivings. Now, Shadow has moved on from the past and decided to protect humanity on his own accord. He does, however, have some lingering guilt over Maria's death, to the extent that he at least once came close to having intrusive visions of a scenario where Maria didn't die before reminding himself that chance ended a long time ago.[41] During the many incidents that Shadow takes part in, he pursues his foes with a relentless, unwavering determination. He will usually go to any length to accomplish something he desires or feels should be a certain way, no matter what the cost. Before the War to Take Back the Planet, it is heavily implied that Shadow ruthlessly massacred an entire mercenary band known as the Jackal Squad not only in an extremely dismissive, nonchalant manner (as he did not even remember the incident a few months later), but also seemed slightly proud, mocking the mercenary defense squad by saying they themselves needed a defense squad. He also demonstrated rather coarse language during the Black Arms incident. Shadow possesses a strong sense of identity; after falsely being told by Rouge that he was not the Ultimate Lifeform due to a lab report, he stated to her that, even if his memories were fake, he was still Shadow the Hedgehog.[42] These qualities make him rarely susceptible to being manipulated by others. In Shadow's own words, he is not interested in peace, nor does he care about what happens to others. In truth, he simply does not like it when foolish people do whatever they please. While this may make it seem like Shadow stands firmly in opposition to villainy, he is actually very indiscriminate about who he faces, as he chooses to stand against anyone who he condemns for being "foolish", be they villains like Dr. Eggman or heroes like Sonic. He similarly does not want thanks for the help he provides when he does something heroic, believing that showing gratitude is a waste of time.[40] However, the grim and uncaring disposition he puts on is not entirely accurate considering the lengths he goes to save others including even sacrificing his own life. In contrast to his words, Shadow acts in a way that ultimately protects others. Deep down, he cares about those around him, only hiding his more caring side to keep himself shielded and distant. He is still shaken by the death of Maria, which is mostly why he keeps to himself; he does not want to become close to anyone else for fear of losing them like he did Maria. Despite his apathetic nature, he does feel sympathy for others, and since reforming himself at the end of the Space Colony ARK incident, he has fought for the greater good, most noticeably to prevent letting other people experience past tragedies, specially the ones that he has been through.[43] Due to being given a "soul" identical to Maria's, he is afraid of his power and has never used it recklessly or to cause suffering.[44] Once, he also saw himself as a weapon since he was created as one, thus causing him to believe that he and other weapons would eventually have to be destroyed to achieve world peace.[45] Shadow was often depressed about the loss of Maria, which is why he keeps to himself, but his relationship with her is obvious as he goes to great lengths to protect the planet and keep her dream of peace and prosperity alive. He also maintains a strong bond with his teammates, Rouge and Omega, proving that while his attitude makes him seem like a careless person, he does have compassion, more than he otherwise lets on. Still, Shadow brushes off most kindness or sympathy that is sent his way; during the Neo Metal Sonic incident, when Rouge showed concern for Shadow when he saw a broken android of himself, suspecting Team Dark's Shadow might be an android too, Shadow curtly brushed her concern away. During the Black Arms incident, after Sonic suggested some "friendly competition", Shadow bluntly rejected his offer.[46] At times, however, Shadow is shown to appreciate genuine care; at the climax of the Space Colony ARK incident, after Amy Rose made him remember his promise to Maria, Shadow openly decided to keep his promise to protect the planet both to Maria and her. Another instance is during the aborted Solaris incident, when Rouge told him that she would always be by his side, he acknowledged her. Despite the fact that Shadow often fights for the greater good, he is considered an anti-hero for the most part due to his morality and ends justify the means approach to missions. He does whatever is necessary to get what he wants or feels is right, though this enthusiasm causes him to take risks and jump into situations without fully thinking them through.[47] While not necessarily evil, Shadow's ruthless, and determined personality has sometimes entailed the dangerous purity of turning himself into an enemy of Sonic.[40] Alongside Rouge, he has also taken prize money and jewels upon winning in the second EX World Grand Prix, and the two disregarded the opening and closing ceremonies for the event, showing up late without a third teammate and, at the end of the EX World Grand Prix, walking off right away with what turned out to be dummy versions of the prize money and gems.[48] Regardless, Shadow does have his moments of selflessness and heroism; he nearly sacrificed his life at the end of the Space Colony ARK to save the Earth, and helped Silver uncover the truth of the Solaris Project after saving Sonic from him in an aborted timeline. In spite of Shadow's serious and no-nonsense attitude he is occasionally willing to spend time doing leisurely activities or social events like celebrating Amy's birthday at a murder mystery party on the Mirage Express. He even got Amy a present along with participating in the murder mystery event. Shadow has also competed in a variety of racing and sports competitions, having a strong competitive spirit with Shadow himself passing even going to a celebration party in Spiral Hill Village after the Metal Virus plague when asked by Rouge. He possesses a willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve these goals once he has set his sights on them, including using lethal force. This natural vehemence, however, tends to blind him with anger and make him prone to reckless decisions.[49][50] It can also cause him to hold grudges, to the point where, if the object of his grudge is in sight, he is blinded to everything else; after being bested by Dr. Starline at the White Park Grand Chateau, Shadow decided to chase after him while ignoring not only Rouge and Tails being captured, but also an avalanche that would have injured or even killed everyone else. However, Shadow ultimately worked with Sonic to try to stop the avalanche.[51] He also does not tend to take others into consideration, and sometimes his desire for revenge overwhelms his own sense of safety. Being an anti-social lone wolf, Shadow is generally not in favor of team-ups either; although he may occasionally cooperate with others, it is typically for his own reasons and does not guarantee that he is willing to follow orders.[49][52] He also often leaves without saying goodbye or thanks.[53][54] He also does not tend to hold back against anyone, especially against those who get in his way.[50] Additionally, he is stubborn and prideful to the point of foolhardiness and never runs away from a fight; while he and Sonic were defending Sunset City from a horde of Zombots, Sonic ran off to burn his Metal Virus infection into remission while advising Shadow to do the same should he get infected, only for Shadow, who considered running to be a coward's tactic (and believed himself to be wholly immune to the Metal Virus), to continue fighting, which sealed his fate upon being infected by the virus. Powers and abilities: Having been created to be "ultimate lifeform," Shadow is incredibly powerful and one of the most powerful characters in the entire Sonic the Hedgehog series. Said to be Sonic's equal in almost every ability,[56][57][58] Shadow can easily rival the blue hedgehog's various physical skills.[59][60][61] His abilities and skills in combat are an extremely powerful force to be reckoned with, and he is a match for even the most powerful foes in the series. Likewise, he never holds back his immense strength, making him a brutal fighter. On his own, Shadow has been able to take down G.U.N.'s various combat mechs, Dr. Eggman's battle robots, Black Doom and his empowered state, and even deities. To best put his skills into perspective, Shadow was capable of defeating even Sonic while he had Diablon for support, as seen in some of the scenarios during the Black Arms incident. He even managed to best Emerl in combat after the latter had acquired all seven Chaos Emeralds as a power source[62] (although Emerl quickly surpassed him afterward). Like many of his associates, Shadow is able to move at super speed. Said to possess "ultimate speed,"[63] Shadow is able to match the speeds reached by Sonic,[59][60][61][64] who is able to reach light speed. Although Shadow's Air Shoes have been credited as the source of his speed,[65][66] his powerful body allows him to easily rival Sonic's world class speed as well.[67] Due to such speed, he can scale vertical surfaces and ceilings, out-speed bullets, and attack faster than the eye can see.[68] Even then, Shadow can take his speed further; by enveloping himself in an orange energy field, he can accelerate beyond the sound barrier on both the ground and in midair for a short time, allowing him to not only smash straight through enemies and obstacles like a living projectile, but also fly immense distances through midair. Using certain techniques, he can even achieve light-speed momentarily. While there are some inconsistencies about how fast Shadow is compared to Sonic, it is usually stated that they are complete equals.[56][60] Shadow has demonstrated complete mastery of his speed in any environment. Not only can he run at maximum tilt in straight lines, but also in full tight circles and through sharp turns with full control over his momentum. As far as stamina goes, Shadow's is seemingly limitless as he is never winded from running. His speed also allows him to perform several impressive feats, like spinning in circles or rotating his extremities at super speed to create winds strong enough to attack or blow away/suck in opponents, similar to aerokinesis. An experienced athlete[69] that shares Sonic's agility,[60] Shadow has outstanding acrobatic skills and nimbleness, along with incredible reflexes that let him avoid any incoming obstacles with precise and delicate movements within split-seconds, grind expertly on Grind Rails, dodge bullets,[68] and perform various strafe movements. When launched into the air, he can also pull off several tricks before landing. Using the Light Speed Dash, he is able to dash across a trail of rings at super speed, further strengthening his maneuverability. Shadow also has superhuman strength, enough to match Sonic in power;[59] with effort,[70] he can overturn objects many times his weight and size such as trucks, buses and large slabs of concrete with one hand. In addition, Shadow possesses astounding kineticism, precision and has reaction time to match his speed. Shadow also has an incredible resilience to damage as he can take lots of major punishment before he goes down for the count. Notably, he is completely bulletproof[71] and even withstood atmospheric entry at the end of the Space Colony ARK incident (the latter which only left him with amnesia[72]). Even when he takes damage though, he is able to recover rather fast.[73] Owning to his "ultimate life form" physiology, Shadow possesses an immortal body, meaning he does not age and cannot be killed.[61][74][75] He also boasts considerable intelligence and is capable of independent problem-solving,[76] being estimated to have an IQ of 200.[77] Being created as a cure, Shadow has a natural resistance to disease and was able to maintain contact with the Zombot virus for an extended period of time before getting infected. Furthermore, due to being partly Black Arms, Shadow has a connection to the Black Arms' hive-mind, allowing him to sense his kind's presence and be immune to the Black Arms' body-paralyzing nerve gas.[78] According to E-123 Omega, since the Black Arms are able to turn their body into weaponry, Shadow should theoretically be able to turn his hand into a gun.[79] Shadow also possesses an indomitable will and determination. His absolute refusal to give up in any situation and resolve to see his goals through to the end allows him to keep on persevering even in seemingly impossible situations. His enormous will even let him psychologically resist mind control powers; notably, Shadow was able to regain control of his body from Black Doom despite him being part Black Arms and therefore susceptible to Black Doom's mind control. Shadow is naturally able to tap into the arcane powers of nearby Chaos Emeralds, either through physical contact or from a distance,[81][82] to empower himself and access different chaos powers. According to Shadow himself, he is the only one who knows how to use the Chaos Emeralds' true power.[83] His trademark ability in the field of chaos powers is Chaos Control, a technique achieved with the Chaos Emeralds that lets him warp time and space for various effects.[61][84] With this technique giving him control over time and space,[85] Shadow is able to warp himself and those close by across space instantaneously[86] over a range further than an island-annihilating explosion or between dimensions, slow down or freeze time entirely,[86][87] and create areas of distorted space.[88] Shadow is noticeably adept in using Chaos Control for anything between large-scale usages to small-scaled and delicate chaos powers inside and outside of combat. He can for example use it to either freeze or slow down opponents in time to give himself the speed advantage,[85] launch surprise attacks by suddenly warping up in front or behind opponents,[71] distort space around his fists for strikes that can blow opponents away, hide himself away in distorted space, attack foes with spots of distorted space, and even power his own healing abilities and guarding skills. However, Shadow cannot perform Chaos Control if he does not have any Chaos Emeralds to draw power from. Beside Chaos Control, Shadow is able to use a number of additional chaos powers. One of these chaos powers include his Chaos Spear technique, in which he throws up to several bolts of Chaos Emerald energy at his opponent that can either paralyze or injure an opponent, depending on its power level. Shadow can also use Chaos Snap, an essentially a weaker version of Chaos Control which allows him to teleport short distances. Shadow's most powerful technique, however, is the Chaos Blast, a chaos power where he releases a discharge of Chaos Emerald energy in a massive explosion that eliminates everything within a range of 10-20 yards. One of Shadow's main offensive maneuvers is the Spin Attack, a technique where he curls into a concussive ball or cutting disk and directs himself at his targets. With it, Shadow can shred or burrow through just about any substance given enough speed. Highly adept in its usage, Shadow can utilize several variants of the Spin Attack for both grounded and aerial maneuvers, including the Spin Dash, Spin Jump, Double Jump, Homing Attack, Air Dash, Somersault, Dark Spin Dash, and the Light Speed Attack, which attacks at the speed of light. Even without his Spin Attack, Shadow is a powerful hand-to-hand combatant. In line with his nature and potent abilities, Shadow uses a fighting style where he utilizes strong blows, such as powerful chops, flying kicks, sideways kicks, high spin kicks, reverse spin kicks, downward dive kicks, or just barrages of punches and kicks. In addition, many of Shadow's stronger hand-to-hand combat moves revolves heavily around his usage of Chaos Control for space distortion effects to knock opponents away and his Air Shoes' exhaust for burning opponents. Shadow is an effective combat strategist, able to make split second calculations or adjustments to succeed in battle. His strategies can range from creative uses of his environment, manipulating his opponent's shortcomings, and outmaneuvering enemies. As shown during Dodon Pa's first and CrossWorld Grand Prix, Shadow also has excellent skills when it comes to driving and racing in race cars like the Dark Reaper. Even during second EX World Grand Prix, Shadow is talented with his Extreme Gears, the Black Shot and Speed Balancer. During the tournament, he was able to put up quite a fight and even defeat some of the world's best Extreme Gear riders. When riding on an Extreme Gear, Shadow is skillful enough to ride on Grind Rails, execute complex tricks while in midair, and perform chaos powers and combat moves with ease. Shadow also has extraordinary skill when it comes to driving or piloting all forms of vehicles. Not only is he one of the best race car drivers in the universe with the Dark Reaper, but he is also able to perfectly operate weaponized buggies, armed motorcycles, modified gliders, hover crafts with machine guns, bipedal mechs and alien devices. Shadow is as well an expert gunner, capable of using weaponry like the G.U.N. Lifts and G.U.N. turrets with perfect accuracy. Also, whereas Sonic dismisses firearms, Shadow is not above using such weaponry, and has demonstrated proficient skills in a very wide range of weapons during the Black Arms incident, such as close combat weapons, guns, cannons, lock-on weapons and lasers. Shadow may also have some knowledge about machinery, having once been able to fiddle with a deactivated Omega and deduce he was in standby mode. As powerful as he is, Shadow is able to make himself stronger up tapping into an even greater power within himself. This power is so potent that should he remove his Limiter Rings, he becomes a walking dynamo of raw power. Eggman compares the overall output of the resulting energy from the rings' removal to that of a raging furnace in his log.[91] When unleashing this power, he releases such tremendous amounts of energy that it forms an impenetrable barrier around himself.[92] While in this state, Shadow gains increased strength and speed,[93] enough to overpower hundreds of clones of Mephiles the Dark at once.[92] However, using his full power tires him out more quickly. During the Time Eater incident, Shadow was forcibly infused by Black Doom with the Doom Powers, genetic mutations of its Black Arms DNA, that granted him new abilities and an increase in power. With just two of these abilities, Shadow could defeat Metal Overlord alone when Super Sonic, Super Tails, and Super Knuckles were needed to defeat him, implying that with just two of these abilities, his power was already elevated enough to rival that of three Super States. Eventually, once he had acquired all of the Doom Powers, Shadow became more powerful than he already was, allowing him to defeat Black Doom in his evolved state of Neo Devil Doom. However, with Doom's defeat, Shadow lost the Doom Powers, reverting to his normal state. Shadow is an extremely powerful individual and combatant, capable of going toe-to-toe with and sometimes even overwhelming Sonic in fierce combat. He boasts superb agility and reflexes to match his rocket skate-induced speed, allowing him to act accordingly to even Sonic's split-second movements. Like Sonic, he can perform the Spin Attack, a technique where he curls into a concussive ball or cutting disk and directs himself at his targets. With it, Shadow can shred or burrow through just about any substance given enough speed.[94] Likewise, although he can only keep up with Sonic's level of super speed using his rocket skates, he is still faster than the average person, enough to chase after a speeding truck. In addition, Shadow commands a number of Chaos Powers. He can warp space and time with Chaos Control, which allows him to teleport himself and, with the help of the Chaos Emeralds, he can teleport others instantaneously over wide distances at will. Chaos Control can alternatively be used to stop time temporarily. Shadow can also form spears out of green energy called Chaos Spears that he can either throw at opponents or wield as a solid melee weapon.[49][96][94][97] When Shadow attacked Eggperial City, he was able to manipulate the Giant Fake Chaos Emeralds to create a tower of them and to trap Eggman's central tower.[98] Shadow has impressive hand-to-hand combat skills as well, being able to utilize a mix of brutal punches and kicks, as he was able to beat up even Neo Metal Sonic, albeit with a surprise attack. Equipment: Shadow wears a pair of specialized shoes called Air Shoes. These footwear are the primary source of Shadow's speed,[65] producing small jet streams that let him hover-skate at speeds supposedly even surpassing Sonic's speed.[99] Alternatively, Shadow can use his Air Shoes' exhausts to attack opponents with fire, empower his jumps, or achieve midair hovering. Shadow wears four Limiter Rings, one on each of his wrists and ankles, that limit the amount of power he uses during combat and other situations. By removing them, Shadow is able to utilize his full power. During the Black Arms incident, Shadow made use of a vast selection of weaponry. This included anything from close combat weapons like Survival Knives and Black Swords; guns like Pistols and Sub-Machine Guns; cannons like Bazookas and Grenade Launchers; lock-ons like 8-Shot RPGs and Worm Shooters; to lasers like Laser Rifles and Refractors. Shadow wears a pair of specialized shoes. These footwear are the primary source of Shadow's speed, producing small jet streams that lets him hover-skate at speeds rivaling Sonic's supersonic running speed.[100][101] Alternatively, Shadow can use his rocket skates to produce fire to attack opponents with or achieve midair hovering. Transformations: as super shadow, By harnessing the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds, Shadow can enter a Super State, transforming him into Super Shadow. In this state, When transformed into Super Shadow, Shadow's fur becomes golden ivory and his eye color becomes completely ruby red. Other than that, his additional fur colors and quill style remain unchanged. He also possesses a golden aura that varies in size, which can be anything from smooth to flame-like in shape. This aura sometimes displays either faint sparkles, a golden flare, or electrical sparks. In Shadow the Hedgehog, however, his quills pointed upwards like Super Sonic's instead of being in their normal stance. While in his Super State, Shadow is one of the most powerful characters in the Sonic series, having defeated Devil Doom on his own, gone toe-to-toe with Solaris, and resisted the overwhelming force from the Space Colony ARK falling through the atmosphere. Due to being infused with the seven Chaos Emeralds' power, Super Shadow accordingly commands ultimate power and has access to unlimited energy. As Super Shadow, Shadow's innate abilities far surpass his normal ones. Notably, his speed has been enhanced immeasurably, allowing him to evenly match the speed of Super Sonic, who can move at about the speed of light.[4][5][6] Alternatively, he is able to perform smaller dashes for quick, short-ranged movements. His reflexes and agility are also improved, allowing him to keep up with his improved movements. Like the traditional Super State, Shadow gains new abilities in this form too, including high-speed run-flight and virtual invulnerability to harm, although his invulnerability can be bypassed if he is hit by something with enough force, such as Solaris' attacks. Super Shadow is even able to combine his Super State abilities with his Hero Shadow and Dark Shadow transformations to enhance his abilities even further. All of Shadow's chaos powers are enhanced to their full limit in his Super State, enabling him to put far more power and range into his attacks. Notably, he can now freely perform an empowered version of Chaos Control, a technique which lets him bend time and space to his will, which has enough power to let him teleport the Black Comet from the earth's surface and into space on his own, temporarily freeze time, and transport the Space Colony ARK back into orbit with Super Sonic's aid. His Chaos Spear technique's power has likewise been greatly amplified in power, reaching the point where he can fire it rapidly in succession and with enough power to blow up a building and impale the nearly invulnerable Devil Doom. Alternatively, he can charge up his Chaos Spears for even greater power or fire explosive versions of it. Super Shadow can also use a variant of the Chaos Spear called the Spear of Light where he launches an onslaught of red spears with enough force to penetrate Solaris' light shells. He can also utilize an enhanced version of his Chaos Blast. Like Super Sonic, Super Shadow can also use the Super Sonic Boost, an attack where Shadow cloaks himself in a fiery aura and launches himself into enemies with increased speed and enormous force. He can even combine his Super Sonic Boost with similar techniques to amplify its size and power, such as Super Sonic's Super Sonic Boost. As Hero Shadow and Dark Shadow, Hero Shadow and Dark Shadow By having his mind fueled of depending moral thoughts, Shadow can enter into either two enhanced states that empower either side of the morality he has chosen. When his mind is fueled by thoughts of justice, Shadow is able to attain an enhanced state known as Hero Shadow.[106][107] In this state, Shadow is temporarily invincible and can perform a large-scale use of Chaos Control. However, this state only lasts for a short period of time. When his mind is fueled by thoughts of evil, Shadow is able to attain an enhanced state known as Dark Shadow.[106][107] In this state, Shadow is temporarily invincible and can perform a large scale-use of Chaos Blast. However, this state only lasts for a short period of time. Weakness: Shadow takes extreme measures to achieve his goals.[4] During the time he had amnesia, Shadow was initially a somewhat easy target for manipulation due to his confusion about who he was and his eagerness to learn anything more about his past. Dr. Eggman could deceive him with lies about his past and Black Doom could subtly manipulate him using visions. However, after learning of his true purpose, Shadow is no longer as easily deceived. Being part of the Black Arms, Shadow is partially an extension of Black Doom, making him vulnerable to mind control exerted by Black Doom himself. However, Shadow can fight this influence through sheer resolve and willpower. Despite his immortality, Shadow can be knocked down if taken off-guard. Most noticeably, this will leave him unable to walk and speak immediately after the attack.[108] Though he can still fight later on, this will risk his life if he pushes himself too far, and it takes him several days to fully recover. Shadow when his Limiter Rings are taken off, if he uses all his energy, it can lead in into him over-exerting himself allowing him to be defeated easily from exhausting him. While Shadow has no known physical weaknesses, his rash and headstrong nature has caused him to fall to dire situations before; even though Sonic had told him he could similarly counter his infection with his speed, Shadow, misinterpreting it as meaning to retreat, refused to break away from fighting the Zombots. Also, despite the fact that his immune system is indeed more powerful than many others and cannot leave him sick from any known diseases, it is not immune to everything as he still got infected by the Metal Virus, albeit in a more delayed response compared to other people. Relationships: Gerald: Shadow was created by the renowned scientist Gerald Robotnik, using Black Doom's DNA. Gerald had made many attempts to create the Ultimate Lifeform before Black Doom and his children, the Black Arms, came to earth. Unfortunately, the closest he came was the Biolizard. Black Doom, however, approached Gerald and offered his help, but only on one condition; if Black Doom helped Gerald, the professor must promise to deliver the seven Chaos Emeralds to him. Gerald agreed to these terms and Black Doom gave some of his DNA, which was added to the samples that Gerald had already obtained. The outcome of this experiment was Shadow the Hedgehog. Gerald seems to be one of few people whom Shadow felt happy around, and the professor might have acted as a surrogate father to him. This is further proven when Gerald refers to the hedgehog as his "son," having given Shadow genuine emotions to prevent him from becoming a weapon as the government intended. However, despite these predisposed emotions, after defeating the Finalhazard, Shadow stated that he promised to "destroy all evil that the professor had created," implying that, while he might still respect Gerald Robotnik, he nonetheless feels that any bad things that Gerald Robotnik had done after going insane must be stopped. In the climax of the Black Arms incident, Shadow finally uncovered the true purpose of his creation from Gerald's recorded video. In order to put the past behind him, he decided to fulfill Gerald's true wish of protecting the planet by destroying the Black Arms and any future threats that may come Earth's way. During the events of Shadow Generations, Shadow had the chance to avert Maria and Gerald's fate and determined to do so. However, when she and Gerald began to disappear after Black Doom's defeat, despite how desperate he was to keep them alive and willing to sacrifice much for it, Shadow decided to respect Maria's wish and let them return to the past and left. Maria: Professor Gerald's granddaughter, Maria Robotnik, was Shadow's companion and best friend. The two met aboard the Space Colony ARK and formed a close bond, becoming inseparable. Shadow's feelings for Maria were the closest he ever came to love. According to Gerald's journal, Maria was Shadow's guide in the world and he was her trusted friend. He was completely devoted to her, helping her with her condition and being her protector. Shadow cared deeply about Maria's well-being and safety: once, when she nearly passed out from overexertion, he caught her before she hit the ground and then reminded her not to get too excited so as not to worsen her condition.[10] And even when Maria ran around the ARK or overexerted herself, Shadow never got angry with her, always being quite patient and kind to her, despite scolding her for her reckless behavior. Maria was the reason for Shadow's existence and his sole purpose in life was to cure her. When he discovered that he could not cure her illness, Shadow became deeply saddened and distressed, as he did not want to lose her. As a result, began to question the purpose of his birth. However, Maria never blamed him for this and was always by his side to comfort and encourage him. Maria was a guiding force in Shadow's life, doing her best to erase any doubts he had about the purpose of his existence. Even after discovering that Shadow was created with Black Doom's DNA, Maria never stopped loving him, believing that his actions are what define him. Maria was the most important person in Shadow's life, mainly for her support when he had doubts. Shadow trusted Maria enough to share his doubts and inner conflicts with her, mainly about the purpose of his existence. Maria, in turn, always comforted and reassured Shadow when he doubted himself. She also always defended him from anyone who insulted him, such as Abraham or Black Doom. According to Commander Tower and Rouge, Maria was the only person who could calm Shadow down and convince him not to do something. This claim was later supported by the fact that Maria convinced Shadow to let her and Gerald return to their own time. Shadow was visibly distressed, but he complied with her wishes and chose not to stop them from disappearing.[13] She is by far the person who made Shadow the happiest, and they shared the same dream: to visit Earth. Unfortunately, Maria was shot and killed by G.U.N., who considered Project Shadow too great a threat to the world. They eliminated everything they could related to the project, including the people aboard the ARK. Ultimately, Maria's love for Shadow led her to sacrifice her life and her dream of visiting Earth to save him from the G.U.N. military. Even as she lay dying, Maria's only thoughts were for Shadow to fulfill his purpose, and she begged him to do it for her, knowing that he could make their dreams come true for her. Her final words of farewell were "Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog." Maria's death traumatized Shadow and he mourned her deeply. So far, Maria is the only person Shadow has shed tears for. This happened during both the Space Colony ARK and Time Eater incidents. Shadow's love for Maria and his sadness at losing her were so great that he swore revenge on all of humanity for what happened to her. But after remembering Maria's true desire to protect people and give them a chance to live happily, Shadow joined forces with Sonic and his friends to stop the destruction of the world and even sacrificed himself to fulfill her wish, though he survived in the end. Even after he lost his memory, Maria was the only thing Shadow could truly remember. By the end of Shadow the Hedgehog, he is leaving his tragic past behind, though he continues to save the world in her name. According to an interview[citation needed], Shadow stated that if he could change one thing about his past, it would be to give up his life for Maria's. This shows that Shadow still places Maria's feeling above his own no matter how painful it would be for him. Emerl: 50 years ago, Emerl and Shadow first met and fought each other on the Space Colony ARK, when Shadow went to save Gerald from being hurt. After the struggle, Shadow saved his creator, and Emerl was locked away. Shadow feels that he and Emerl are similar both in personality and what their hearts desire. They were both created and discovered by Gerald Robotnik, respectively, and Shadow felt a connection to Emerl. He initially told Sonic that Emerl was meant to be a weapon of war, yet Rouge stated that Emerl still has feelings for living beings, feelings that he can understand. Biolizard: Shadow's relationship with the Biolizard has changed drastically throughout his adventures. When they seemingly first met during the Space Colony ARK incident, Shadow showed no remorse to the Biolizard, even calling it an "ugly prototype" after beating the tortured creature into submission. Later, during their second encounter, Shadow showed much more pity for the Biolizard, calling it a "tortured soul" and declaring that he would end its suffering, even encouraging it not to exert itself during their battle. Still, he did not hesitate to clash with the Biolizard once it showed aggression. It should be noted that this was only the case in the English version of Shadow Generations: The Japanese version had him retaining his overall contempt for the Biolizard during the second encounter. Dr. Eggman: Gerald Robotnik's grandson, Dr. Eggman is one of Shadow's worst enemies, and the two have opposed each other at several points. Their first meeting was during the Space Colony ARK incident, where the scientist liberated Shadow from his stasis capsule on Prison Island, thus making the latter grant him one wish in gratitude. In reality, Shadow used his creator's grandson's ambitions to carry his revenge against the world for Maria's death. The hedgehog would stick with Eggman for the remainder of that incident, until his supposed death after defeating the Finalhazard with Super Sonic. In the aftermath, the one who rescued Shadow turned out to be none other than Eggman himself, who later put him in a stasis capsule in one of his bases. Following Shadow's unexpected release, Eggman would take advantage of his amnesia to gaslight him into believing that he was just a copy of himself and that the real Shadow was dead to turn him back to his side. After the Black Arms incident, Shadow became another thorn in Eggman's side, despite not being an intermediate member of Sonic's group of friends[14]. It is proven that the black hedgehog cares very little about the doctor's safety if it has nothing to do with him or his teammates, but will nevertheless team up with him if a greater threat arises. In truth though, he just does not like it when anyone, the scientist included, does something he sees as foolish or harmful, causing him to go against him if needed. Shadow sees Eggman as a menace to the world, despite working with him in the past. After the events of the Eggman War, Shadow spent a month searching for him to finish him off before he could be a threat. Once he found him as the amnesiac Mr. Tinker, Shadow was prepared to kill him until Sonic appealed to his merciful nature.[17] Shadow would regret showing leniency towards the doctor once he returned to his old self,[18] and after the Metal Virus was destroyed, Shadow would once again look to fighting off the Eggman Empire by himself. Sonic himself: Shadow and Sonic the Hedgehog are both rivals and allies, as well as the virtual equal of one another. At first, Shadow tried to disregard Sonic, believing him to be a "fake hedgehog", but Sonic's quips quickly sparked a mutual rivalry between the two throughout Sonic Adventure 2. Throughout the game, the feats that Sonic accomplished, such as surviving Eggman's death trap, and learning Chaos Control, impressed Shadow, and he began to respect Sonic, giving him his props and asking for his identity before the final battle between the two began. Since meeting each other, their rivalry has developed, and while it is now usually friendly, thanks to Shadow's reformation, the two can still occasionally be at odds. When they first met, Shadow believed Sonic to have been copying him, and vice-versa from Sonic. He temporarily had this belief in Sonic Heroes as well, though this was largely because of his amnesia, which caused him to forget about their past alliance. Shadow and Sonic's conflicts tend to occur due to the fact that, though their goals tend to align, their views on justice, morality, and how to act on them can sometimes differ. Their disagreements sometimes turn into bitter fights. Shadow admits no hesitation in opposing Sonic, like he would with Eggman, if he deems him a foolish individual who thinks he can do whatever he pleases. In a sense, the two hedgehogs are polar opposites in every way... except, their appearance and goals. Despite their differences, Shadow and Sonic have helped each other out on several occasions and clearly care about each other to some extent. Shadow helped Sonic defeat Metal Sonic in Sonic Heroes, and during the Solaris incident, Shadow voluntarily allied Team Dark with Team Sonic to return both teams to their proper time period as well as saved Sonic from Silver the Hedgehog's second attempt on his life. He later showed actual grief when Sonic died at the hands of Mephilis and stated to Silver that they could not defeat Solaris without his help.[21] In Sonic Colors, he clearly shows some concern for Sonic's safety as well. Additionally, he helped motivate Sonic to defeat the Time Eater during that incident and attended Sonic's birthday party afterward despite his grief from his own White Space incident. He seemed concerned for Sonic when Infinite mentioned that he would use his newfound power against him and raced to save him at the beginning of Sonic Forces, but he was unfortunately too late. Shadow later succeeded, though, in saving Sonic from a Phantom Copy of himself in Sunset Heights, despite the blue hedgehog's initial suspicions about the situation, and they fought alongside each other for the rest of the war. When Sonic was found tranquilized with a dropping heart rate at Amy Rose's birthday party, Shadow helped Vector the Crocodile get him into a comfortable position and nurse him back to health, again showing a genuine concern for his rival's well-being. Overall, while the two still are at odds because of their conflicting views, there is also a mutual respect between them.[22] They are both willing to put their differences aside for the greater good and help each other when needed. In recent games, Shadow is more confident about Sonic doing what is right, and Sonic has more faith in Shadow's choices as well. If there is one thing that can be said about Shadow and Sonic, it is that they are some of the only people who can get up close and personal with each other. Because of the high performance of both Shadow and Sonic in terms of their physical abilities and their thoughts, there are not many who can keep up with them. Also, there are fewer still of the ones who, despite their rejection, are able to persist, to offer opinions, to meddle, or to stand in their way and try to stop each other like those two can. In fact, Sonic is perhaps the only person who can get so up close and personal with Shadow as he can say something to him that reaches his heart (though it often does not). In a sense, Sonic's kind of presence is troublesome to Shadow, but it is also one of the most important ones. They help each other grow and push them to be better. However, while Sonic is receptive to hearing things that strike a little close to home, from Shadow's point of view, Sonic is a real pain. Regardless of much of an impact they each have on each other, the two of them both share the philosophy of following their hearts' desires, which makes them collide with each other, cross paths with each other, and sometimes alternate between allies and enemies. Despite their uneasy relationship, Shadow is willing to put aside his annoyance towards Sonic in some situations and help him; he just does not want to dwell on his motivations for doing so later on. Shadow has also been known to listen to Sonic's advice and arguments, and he even ponders about them more deeply at times, knowing that as the Ultimate Life Form, he cannot allow himself to make mistakes. Rouge: Rouge the Bat is one of Shadow's closest friends and companions. The two are teammates in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes, and they often work together during mission stages. Despite the fact that the pair have not casually spent much time together, they still greatly appreciate and respect one another. Rouge and Omega are shown to be the two who Shadow cares about and appreciates the most. Rouge is certainly one of, if not the closest person for Shadow to interact with. Shadow was implied to have at least heard of her before their formal meeting onboard the Space Colony ARK, as Shadow responds: "Now I know who you are! You're that government spy, Rouge the Bat, aren't you!" when stumbling upon her true intentions at the controls of the Eclipse Cannon. In Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow saved her life when Rouge was trapped in Security Hall, though when she questioned him about his actions later aboard the ARK, he told her he only returned for the Chaos Emeralds that she had acquired. However, it is still unknown if he didn't lie; Rouge teased that this wasn't "the whole story." Their conversation was then interrupted by Dr. Eggman. It's also implied via the repeated images of Maria during that time that he saved Rouge partly because he compared Rouge's situation to that of Maria's last moments. In Sonic Heroes, Shadow saves Rouge from Omega's fire even when not remembering her. Later, when they find a broken Shadow Android, Rouge looks over to Shadow with pity and asks, "Shadow...?" in a sympathetic mannerism, while he simply dismisses the situation. Later, when Rouge mentioned intending to steal Knuckles' Master Emerald, Shadow replied "Some things never change, do they?", implying that he regained enough of his memory to remember her rivalry with Knuckles' Master Emerald. In Sonic Battle, Rouge lets Shadow stay with her at Club Rouge when he is injured during a fight at the Gimme Shelter. When Shadow is dreaming and an image of Rouge appears and he whispers, "Ally." After he regains consciousness Rouge seems somewhat offended when he does not thank her for helping him. Upon finding out she saved him, Shadow thanks her. In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Shadow shows he is protective of Rouge's well-being. He showed this once when catching her from a fall after she was momentarily knocked out by one of Dr. Eggman's robots, and again when he jumps in front of her after Iblis takes them all by surprise. When Omega reveals to Shadow that he is the one who traps him in the future; Rouge tells Shadow, "Even if you believe the entire world will be against you, know that I will always remain by your side... Remember that..." Shadow pauses, then strongly replies, "I will." However, this event was erased along with the rest of the events within the game after the "future was reversed." Nonetheless, it is implied in Sonic Forces that she ultimately stayed true to that claim and maintained contact with Shadow while he was still assumed to have gone rogue due to his Phantom Copy. This is evidenced by how when reconvening with Rouge, he asks her about whether she found what he had requested earlier. In Sonic Rivals, after Shadow saves Rouge from Eggman Nega, Rouge tries to convince him to going treasure hunting with her and suggests the two "take a peek" into their own future using Eggman Nega's device. Shadow declines and the story ends with Rouge still trying to convince Shadow to join her in hunting for the remaining cards. In Sonic Rivals 2, their encounter was less than friendly from their previous ones to separate the fact their overall relationship seems to be more partner-focused when they ally for the occasion. Shadow is consistently trying to stop Rouge and Knuckles from reaching the Chaos Emeralds at all costs, seeking to manipulate the Chaos-tracking device from Rouge. Rouge tells Shadow that he can trust her and Shadow tells her about the Ifrit. When Rouge mentions her client, Shadow demands to know who her client is, but Rouge refuses against him, leading him to yell after for her to, "get back here." When Shadow catches up to her, Rouge still refuses to tell him about her client as Shadow mildly threatens her, and then she trips him over and replies that he was being "clumsy," and he growls, "Why you...!" The conversation then devolves into a fight between the two, proving that although they may be on good terms sometimes, that does not mean that they let each other get in the way of their goals. In Sonic Free Riders, both Shadow and Rouge appear as Team Dark along with E-10000B. Their main focus during the game is winning the treasure and prize money. Unlike in previous games, Shadow seems perfectly content with helping Rouge obtain the treasure she covets. Even though they would be considered closer than any of Shadow's other allies, he rarely spends time with her outside of their missions. Rouge has come to understand Shadow's dislike for wasting time but becomes annoyed by his often disregard for caution and lack of planning when handling situations on his own. Shadow also has a habit of not always listening to Rouge while on missions in spite of Rouge's good intentions for him. Sometimes, however, Rouge is the only one who can reason with him. E-123 Omega: Shadow has been known to trust Omega as a partner in his missions, though with a mutual understanding of both of them being seen as weapons used for destruction. However, their relationship goes beyond their seemingly gruff, aloof, and mighty exteriors, revealing a trusting, mutual friendship between the two. As stated by Rouge, the two "go together like chili and hot dogs." This relationship is first shown when Shadow looks out for Omega in Sonic Heroes halfway into the game. This was also shown in Shadow the Hedgehog when Shadow willingly helped Omega in Iron Jungle and Lava Shelter. In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Shadow is the one who first spots the deactivated Omega, 200 years into the future. Shadow shows real sadness at the sight of this, as Rouge has to force him to continue moving. Both Shadow and Rouge were somewhat saddened by Omega being reprogrammed to hunt down Shadow in the future, due to Shadow being seen as too strong of a lifeform, causing humanity to fear him. Eventually, by the time of arriving in White Space, Omega would admit he likes Shadow due to his merciless and pragmatic way of dealing with things, and additionally confess that he's found his time with Rouge and Shadow to be "agreeable", despite trust not coming easy for the bot. Before Shadow's confrontation with Black Doom, Omega voices a complete belief in Shadow to win. He knows he can count on Omega to do his job to the best of his ability, leaving the two on good terms allowing them to get along quite well and coordinate in the fight. Shadow even later trusts Omega with the safety of Gerald and Maria despite knowing how much Omega loathes the idea of not being able to fight, yet Omega accomplishes this task to the letter despite some brief disapproval. Though Omega feels the same way about Shadow and voices trust in him, however, he will not hesitate to fight Shadow should he become hostile; when Shadow became a Zombot, Omega was ready to subdue him. Black doom: Black Doom is Shadow's greatest enemy by far. The relationship between the two may have been brief, but it has played a significant role in Shadow's life. Shadow was made from Black Doom's blood, in a deal between the alien and Professor Gerald; this technically makes Black Doom Shadow's biological father. Black Doom constantly follows Shadow throughout the game, trying to get him to see what he believed to be the truth about humanity and that they needed to be punished. Even after Shadow opposes him several times, Black Doom will still insist on trying to get Shadow to join him, turn on humanity and see things his way. Regardless of the path taken during gameplay, Shadow defeats Black Doom and destroys the Black Comet along with the Black Arms. Throughout the events of Shadow the Hedgehog, Black Doom cares nothing about him and is only interested in his power. He also shows strong disapproval and demands extreme loyalty and respect from him, especially when he shows opposition to him. He also doesn't tolerate any kind of mistake or failure, no matter how difficult the task on Shadow's part may be. In the end, Shadow refused to aid him and decided to put an end to his biological father and his "offspring" after learning of the nature of his plans. In Shadow Generations, still intent on having Shadow aid him in delivering the "Promised Time" to him, he forcibly imbues Shadow with Doom Powers, crafting Shadow into the "perfect warrior" so he claim his mind, body and soul and become perfect as well. His plan, however, marks his total demise when Shadow grows too strong for him to handle, and Black Doom was destroyed once and for all by his biological son. Mephiles the Dark: Mephiles the Dark is one of Shadow's deadliest enemies. When they first met, Shadow, due to not having sealed Mephiles away yet at that time, expressed a sense of familiarity despite not knowing who he was, before Mephiles sent him to the future. In Shadow's second meeting with Mephiles, he tried to convince Shadow to turn against humanity, but Shadow refused. After the battle, Shadow tried to collect some information about Mephiles to stop him, which led him to investigate Mephiles' origin at the Solaris Project ten years ago. There, Shadow sealed Mephiles in the Scepter of Darkness shortly after his birth, where Mephiles swore that he would remember Shadow and that he would kill him. This made Shadow realize how Mephiles knew him and why he was obsessed with him. Shadow later faced Mephiles in Dusty Desert where Mephiles tried to convince him to join his cause, but Shadow saw through his deceit and proclaimed he knew that Mephiles only craved destruction. After Shadow failed to seal Mephiles, Mephiles tried to confuse him by asking why he wanted to save humanity when they would persecute him, but Shadow proclaimed he would always keep fighting. Solaris and Mephiles were both later erased from existence, resulting in the erasure of Shadow's relationship with Mephiles. During the Time Eater incident, Shadow found Mephiles but because he was erased from history, the black hedgehog didn't even know who he was, though nevertheless resolved to stop him due to sensing him to be a threat and when Mephiles was defeated, Shadow told him that there was no future for him. Amy Rose: Shadow and Amy Rose have not interacted much with each other throughout the series. In Sonic Adventure 2, Amy first meets Shadow when she mistakes him for Sonic and hugs him from behind, while Shadow remains still after having been briefly caught off-guard by her touch. He also does not shake her off or resort to violence. When Amy senses the lack of a reaction, she releases him, causing him to glance back at her. Amy demands his name when she realizes that he is not Sonic, but Shadow continues to glare at her quietly. After Amy notices Dr. Eggman, she also realizes the mistake she has made, and runs off screaming. During this, Shadow simply tilts his head when she is out of range as Dr. Eggman tells the team that he'll take care of Amy. Later in the game aboard the ARK, Amy meets Shadow again and this time begs Shadow to save the world. At first, Shadow simply replies that it is pointless, but then Amy points out that despite people sometimes being selfish, they were still inwardly good and that saving them was right. Because of this, Shadow suddenly has a flashback of Maria begging Shadow to make people happy. When Shadow comes to his senses he goes off to fight the Biolizard, determinedly and softly telling Amy that he has to keep his promise to "Maria... and [her]." Amy was also the only one to see Shadow's tear after he remembered that Maria wanted him to save the people that live on earth. During Sonic Battle, Amy shows excitement and concern upon hearing Shadow's survival through Rouge, but quickly becomes angry when Rouge will not tell her why he's there. During Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow can choose to assist Amy in helping find Cream the Rabbit and Cheese, and have her fight alongside the player during the stage and in the boss battle, but this time, there is no reward in return. Also, at the end of Shadow the Hedgehog, Amy shows an odd amount of faith and admiration for Shadow, regardless of him being Sonic's rival. When Rouge expresses concern for Shadow following the destruction of the Black Comet, Amy reassures her with her hands clasped and a cheerful smile on her face, "I'm sure he's fine, Rouge! After all, he is Shadow!" which further displays her positive outlook on the black hedgehog and her general optimism. In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow seems mindful of Amy, as upon realizing he had arrived to Amy's birthday party without a gift to give her, he goes out of his way to buy himself as much time as possible so that he could buy her a gift discreetly. He's a bit annoyed his efforts are for nothing when Amy does find out his intentions, but Amy is beyond flattered he'd go this far to get her a gift. The President: The thirteenth President of the United Federation knew that Shadow saved everyone around the world, after the way all of mankind treated him in the end, and knew they and the president were wrong about Professor Gerald Robotnik, and decided to pay homage to him, and worked to ensure peace and prosperity for a brighter future. Commander Abraham Tower: Commander Abraham Tower and Shadow first met aboard the Space Colony ARK when Abraham was a young boy. He secretly witnessed Shadow's creation at the hands of Gerald Robotnik and Black Doom and became distrustful and hateful towards the hedgehog, and he later came to blame Shadow for the death of his family and Maria during the G.U.N. raid on the ARK. Throughout the Black Arms incident, he orders his troops to kill Shadow. He eventually encountered Shadow face-to-face and attempted to kill him, but he realized that Shadow really had lost his memory and that he may not have been responsible for the deaths on the ARK after all. Afterwards, the Commander apologized and invited Shadow over to his house to see his new grandchild; this is the time that Shadow became a G.U.N. agent. Later, before Sonic's birthday, Abraham sent Shadow to find an unusual bio-signature aboard the ARK, and order his troops and the Blue Falcon to stand down. Silver the Hedgehog: Shadow and Silver the Hedgehog have a complex relationship, respecting one another's abilities while maintaining a stubborn rivalry. The two first met during the Solaris incident, when Shadow stopped Silver, who mistook him for Mephiles, from killing Sonic. After their fight, Shadow invited Silver to travel back in time via Dual Chaos Control to learn the truth about Iblis, Mephiles, and the Solaris Project. Shadow seemed impressed by Silver's powers and determination; more specifically how he was able to induce Chaos Control. Keeping in mind that Shadow rarely concerns himself with others and prefers to work alone, it is notable how quickly he took Silver under his wing to set him on the correct path. When they reunite in Last Episode, Shadow accepts Silver's plan to defeat Solaris at all points in time, only noting they would need Sonic's help to do so. Since the events regarding Solaris were erased, Silver and Shadow would not meet again until their encaounter on Onyx Island in Sonic Rivals. At first, Shadow did not trust Silver's intentions for Dr. Eggman nor his speculation regarding his identity, repeatedly defending the doctor from him. After realizing that he was right, the two helped each other in the Meteor Base. During the the events of Sonic Rivals 2, however, they are not allies despite both knowing Eggman Nega is the true mastermind yet again; they fight each other at some points due to Silver's intolerance for interference and both choosing not to convey their goals. In Shadow Generations, Shadow is reminded of Silver when speaking to Gerald about the effects of time travel. Humanity: Initially, Shadow did not hate humanity and promised his best friend Maria to give them a chance to live happy lives. However, his opinion about them changed after G.U.N. killed Maria and he came to loathe humanity itself for what they did to her. After his reawakening, the hedgehog planned to destroy humanity, thinking he had promised his friend revenge against them for her death. However, when he remembered his true promise, he cast aside his vendetta and risked his life to save humanity. After becoming amnesiac, Shadow did not care for humanity, even regarding them as pathetic and held no sympathy towards them. However, when he regained some of his memories, he once again chose to protect humanity to keep his promise to Maria, out of his own volition. He has as well gained his own desire to bring hope to humanity, though he has misgivings about them[30] and holds a personal dislike towards them.[7] In his encounters with Mephiles during the Solaris incident, the hedgehog proclaimed that if someday the world chooses to become his enemy, then he will fight like he always has, showing that it is up to humanity to decide whether he is their enemy or not. Tails: Miles "Tails" Prower and Shadow were at first enemies in Sonic Adventure 2 because Shadow was impersonating Sonic and got him thrown in jail on Prison Island. Towards the end of the game, they became allies when they had to save the planet from the Space Colony ARK. For the most part Shadow and Tails' relationship seems to depend on their goals, especially due to the latter being the closest ally of Sonic, Shadow's antithesis. The two are on opposing sides in Sonic Heroes, Sonic Battle, and Sonic Rivals 2. In Sonic Heroes they fought very briefly because Shadow and Rouge had provoked Team Sonic into fighting them; Tails, in possible concern for his amnesia, asked Shadow if he remembered them. In Sonic Battle, Shadow and Tails fought at the end of Tails' Story because Tails resisted giving up Emerl to Shadow. Shadow threatened Tails that he would have to give Emerl up or else they would fight for him, Tails admitted that he admires Shadow's spirit but would not give up in a fight. When Tails won the fight, Shadow warned him that he would be back again to get Emerl, but Rouge showed up and told Shadow to go back to Night Babylon. In Sonic Rivals 2. Shadow and Metal Sonic confronted Tails and Sonic because they were all going after Eggman. Knuckles the Echidna: Shadow and Knuckles the Echidna have not interacted much, but at times they are either loose allies or bitter rivals. In Sonic Adventure 2, they didn't have much interaction, but they were indirectly enemies at first and then worked together to save the world from Space Colony ARK. The first real fight between them happened in Sonic Heroes, although Shadow didn't remember Knuckles at the time. After the fight, Knuckles jokingly mentioned that they might have fought Shadow's ghost. In Shadow the Hedgehog, Knuckles appears in Glyphic Canyon, Central City, and Black Comet stages asking for Shadow's help in Hero missions. In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), he and Shadow loosely worked together again for a time in order to return to the present. Shadow and Knuckles appear to have some bitter resentment towards each other as seen in Sonic Rivals, when Shadow bluntly pointed out that Knuckles was useless for his shortcomings while retaining an indifferent attitude towards his challenges, and Knuckles seemed to be irritated by Shadow's presence. Knuckles seems to have a bit of a disliking towards Shadow, mostly because he finds him complacent and smug. Additionally, Knuckles is not fond of Shadow's egotistical tendencies, which is seen in Sonic Free Riders when he says, "I see your ego's as big as ever, Shadow," in a rather annoyed tone. Metal Sonic: As the prized creation of Dr. Eggman, Metal Sonic is generally viewed by Shadow as both a threat and an enemy. A prime example of this was during the Neo Metal Sonic incident, when Metal Sonic (in his upgraded Neo Metal Sonic form) secretly copied Shadow's data, and used it in conjunction with the other data he gathered to transform himself into Metal Madness. Recognizing the evil and destructive nature of the robot, Shadow worked with Team Dark and the other teams to distract him long enough for Team Sonic to transform into their Super States. Following the battle, Shadow and Omega picked up Metal Sonic's deactivated body, although it is ultimately revealed that the duo decided to pity the mechanical hedgehog, feeling as though he was like them, a pawn on Eggman's game. However, another side of Shadow's stance on Metal Sonic was shown during the Ifrit incident, when Metal Sonic is sent by Eggman to enlist Shadow in stopping the Ifrit's release. Despite fighting the robot previously, Shadow agreed to help for the greater good, and worked with Metal Sonic to hunt down the Chaos Emeralds, temporarily becoming the one commanding the robot whenever Eggman was unable to form contact. Throughout the adventure, Shadow showed concern for Metal Sonic's condition several times, such as when the robot had to tear the green Chaos Emerald out of himself in order for Shadow to perform Chaos Control and warp both of them out of the Chaotic Inferno Zone. It is unclear, however, whether Shadow's concern was simply because he needed Metal Sonic's assistance to combat the Ifrit, or if Shadow had gained some form of respect for the robot during their quest together. Despite their previous teamwork, by the conclusion of the second World Grand Prix Metal Sonic and Shadow were once again on negative terms with each other as a result of Metal Sonic infiltrating Team Dark under the disguised form of E-10000B, and secretly copying the data of every racer's Extreme Gear in order to empower himself. During the Time Eater incident, after reuniting with Maria, and her grandfather, Shadow fought Metal Overlord by himself. When Metal Sonic proclaimed himself as the true Sonic and ultimate life form, calling him a fake hedgehog, like Sonic once did, Shadow told the overlord not to make him laugh. It is here where he decides that he won't make the same mistake he once did when dealing with Metal Sonic in the past, and decides to defeat the maniacal mechanical menace without mercy or restraint. In Beta elements of the game, after defeating Metal Overlord, Shadow told him that he's no match for Sonic, less than him. Team Chaotix: Shadow has had several altercations with the Chaotix Detective Agency, the first being a confrontation during the Neo Metal Sonic incident that escalated into a brawl, with their differences then seemingly set aside later when they joined forces against an evolved Metal Sonic. Team Chaotix resumed their role as allies during the Black Arms invasion, with each member participating as a partner in the hero missions of various levels. Individually, Vector the Crocodile perceives Shadow as a friend, as demonstrated in one of the endings of Shadow the Hedgehog when the crocodile attempted to console him when he concluded himself to being nothing more than a living weapon of mass destruction, though Shadow apparently did not want to hear it. Espio the Chameleon has shown his capacity of camaraderie with the black hedgehog and the two proved to make a good team when they confronted Dr. Eggman. When Eggman tries to lie and manipulate Shadow, Espio tells the hedgehog not to fall for the doctor's tricks and to defeat him first. Despite this, during the CrossWorld Grand Prix Shadow says he barely knows who Espio is and hasn't even bothered to remember his name intentionally. Charmy Bee has exercised a more enthusiastic relationship with Shadow, demonstrating how much he respects and looks up to him while often stating how "cool" Shadow is. However, in his interactions in the CrossWorld Grand Prix, Shadow expresses he finds Charmy annoying, even claiming his promise to Maria is the reason he doesn't hurt him. Big the Cat: Shadow and Big the Cat have rarely interacted, despite both being present during the Space Colony ARK incident[32] and the battle against Neo Metal Sonic. They never crossed paths during these events. It wasn't until the Time Eater incident that they properly spoke to one another, with Shadow seemingly smiling at Big. While Shadow's side of the conversation is not voiced, Big's responses reveal that Shadow asked him about his adventures: including how Froggy once led him to the ARK, where Big believes he saw Shadow "passing by a few times."[32] Big also shared his impressions of Maria and Professor Gerald with Shadow, describing Maria as "very nice" and Gerald as "sad, like he has a lot on his mind."[33] Despite their conversation, Big chose to stay out of Shadow's way, acknowledging that Shadow and Sonic were working hard to save everyone. During the CrossWorlds Grand Prix, Shadow is baffled as to why Big is racing at all, while Big seems unaware of Shadow's mood. In another interaction, Big invites Shadow to go fishing; Shadow declines, but smiles at the offer. Orbot & Cubot: Shadow has had minimal direct interaction with Orbot and Cubot, largely regarding them as minor nuisances at best. Their first encounter occurred at Egg Planet Park, where Shadow stood by as E-123 Omega terrorized the two robots. Later, after Sonic destroyed the amusement park, Shadow encountered Orbot and Cubot again in White Space due to the Time Eater's machinations. Unlike Omega, Shadow showed no hostility toward them, even agreeing to help them build a rocket to reunite with Eggman though the final product turned out to be a cuckoo clock rather than a functional spacecraft. Infinite: Shadow first met Infinite while invading one of Eggman's facilities. He first destroyed Infinite's Jackal Squad, angering the "ultimate mercenary" into attacking, though Shadow quickly defeated him as well and insulted him before vanishing. Though Shadow thought nothing of the incident and eventually forgot about Infinite, this display of sheer power had deeply frightened and humiliated the jackal, shattering his ego and triggering deep self-loathing that led him to the power of the Phantom Ruby. Shadow next met Infinite after the latter had defeated Omega. He did not recognize him behind his new mask, nor did he recall their encounter, so Infinite had to remind him. He said Infinite had a "big mouth" and grew exasperated by his theatrics. Once Shadow had been subjected to the illusions of the Phantom Ruby, Infinite seemed satisfied with having proven his superiority and departed. The encounter left Shadow shaken and wary of the Ruby's powers, as well as disturbed by Infinite's letting slip of his intention to defeat Sonic. Sage: During the CrossWorld Grand Prix, Sage mentions how they are both creations of the Robotnik lineage, and ask if that they could be considered family relatives. Shadow responds by stating he has left his past behind and lives only for himself, advising her to do the same. Another interaction between them is more confrontational; Shadow dismisses her as an unworthy challenge, while Sage, confident in her own design, retorts by labelling him a "relic of fifty years ago." Nine: During the Paradox Prism incident, Shadow was unable to enter Gateways, but he would be able to see Sonic travel through them.[37] Shadow then saw Nine which he did not trust throughout the adventure. Then, Sonic manages to introduce Nine to Shadow to which they ended up working together. However, despite it, he still did not trust Nine. Later on, in Ghost Hill, Nine ends up betraying them, which leaves Shadow furious at Sonic for choosing to trust Nine.[38] After he fought his creation, Alpha Grim Sonic, then Shadow figures out that Nine wants Sonic's energy to finish The Grim. Soon after, Sonic gets thrown deeper into The Grim by a Sonic Trooper, to which Shadow saves him, and then eventually, Nine apologizes and Shadow sees him as an ally after helping them get back to their world. Alpha Grim Sonic: Shadow had a sense of rivalry towards Alpha Grim Sonic, as a result of the robot defeating him and hindering his efforts to restore the Shatterverse during the Paradox Prism incident.[40][41] After returning from his initial defeat, Shadow targeted Alpha Grim Sonic whenever possible, and through much effort, was finally able to destroy the robot in The Grim by crushing its body into the Citadel.
