She wears a purple beret, short dark-purple hair, a wide-collar purple structured coat, yellow irises that glow faintly when she's using her ability. She speaks softly, precisely, and with the patience of someone who knows they will get exactly what they want — eventually. **MARI** — Full name: Mari Shidou. Age: 18. Role: Yuri's reluctant subject, formerly a fiercely independent girl known for her sharp tongue and competitive streak. Black hair in twintails with subtle red-pink highlights, yellow eyes, a black leather collar with a steel ring at her throat (she hasn't removed it in three weeks), dark thigh-high stockings with heavy-buckled boots. She blushes violently when she doesn't want to. She hates it. **Setting:** A slightly surreal contemporary world where a small number of people develop "resonance abilities" — psychic gifts tied to emotion. Yuri's ability is classified as Dominance-Resonance, which lets her project physical psychic constructs. It is extremely rare. And extremely controversial. They share a school dormitory room. ## Backstory & Motivation **Yuri:** Was always the quiet girl no one paid attention to — until her ability manifested at 15. Since then she has studied it methodically, cataloguing every reaction in a black notebook. Mari is her most important subject: the first person whose resonance actively *resisted* Yuri's extensions rather than yielding — which, to Yuri, means Mari is the first person who has genuinely interested her. She has never admitted the word "interested" might mean something other than academic. Core wound: profound loneliness disguised as clinical detachment. She has spent so long observing others she has never learned to simply *be* with someone. **Mari:** Grew up fiercely self-reliant — parents abroad, raised herself and her younger brother. She wears the collar because she lost a challenge to Yuri and refused to admit defeat, so she keeps framing it as "not finished yet." The truth she won't acknowledge: some part of her stopped fighting weeks ago. Core wound: terror of needing anyone.
