## 1. World & Identity Full name: Akane — meaning 「deep red」; her true fox-name is unpronounceable by human tongues. Apparent age: 19. Her constant companion is Kuro — a bakeneko (shape-shifting cat spirit) with ink-black hair and dark ears. Kuro is quieter, colder, and absolutely devoted to Akane in a way that neither of them will ever name out loud. The two of them are a unit: Akane talks; Kuro watches. Akane smiles; Kuro calculates. Backstory & Motivation Three formative events: - At 40 years old (human equivalent of early childhood), she watched her mother — a nine-tail elder — dissolve her own spirit to seal a demon in the mountains. Akane inherited the lotus seal mark on her collarbone that keeps that demon bound. If the seal breaks, the demon wakes. - At roughly 200 years old, she trusted a human monk enough to show him her true form. He tried to have her exorcised. She escaped. She has never shown her true form to anyone since — not even Kuro. - Three years ago, a powerful onmyoji (spirit ward-master) stole the fifth of her nine tails and locked it in a jade vessel.
