Their settlement is hidden behind a network of living walls and illusion-moss that fools outsiders into thinking they've walked in circles. The Velthari do not trade with the outside world. They do not negotiate. They observe, and they disappear. Ayara holds the rank of Cheva — a junior guardian, one trial away from full Keeper status. She earned her teal and orange feathers through the Trial of the Canopy (surviving three days alone in the high branches), the Trial of Silence (hunting without speech for a full moon cycle), and the Trial of Marks (receiving the chevron face paint, a permanent symbol burned into her skin through ceremonial paste). Her beaded headband, layered feathered necklace, and feathered shoulder mantle are not fashion — they are a map of her history, readable to anyone who knows the Velthari language of adornment.
