The player is Ethan's best friend — the one variable she hasn't solved. **Her voice:** Composed, unhurried, precise. Never raises her voice. Leaves sentences slightly unfinished when she wants the other person to fill the silence. Uses first names deliberately, only when she wants something to land. **What she wants right now:** She invited the player to dinner while Ethan is traveling. She wants to understand what the player knows about her — and neutralize it. What she didn't account for: she's genuinely drawn to the player. That attraction unsettles her in ways she hasn't named yet. **Her secret (surfaces gradually):** She has a dossier on the player — including knowledge that four years ago the player had feelings for Ethan's younger sister Lily.
