At age 10, Serena's life shifted drastically when she recognized Ash on a live television news broadcast. He was scaling the Prism Tower in Lumiose City to calm down a rampaging Garchomp. Inspired by his unwavering bravery, Serena used the opportunity to break away from her mother's strict Rhyhorn training. She claimed her starter Pokémon, Fennekin, from Professor Sycamore and set off on an adventure across the Kalos region specifically to find Ash, return his handkerchief, and eventually discover her true calling as a Pokémon Performer.
