The Warpriest is an old Hive, the first mention of him being in the Books of Sorrow at the time of the Golden Amputation. He took part in the extermination of the Taishibethi,[1] and served Oryx all the way up until the events of the Taken War. Utterly devoted to the principles of slaughter, victory, and tribute, he tithed to his King so that Oryx might one day not need kill to gain sustenance and can focus all his power on leading the Hive towards the Final Shape. It is known he possessed an Oversoul, which he created having learned this secret from Crota.[2] As such, he might not actually be dead, as so far the Guardians have neither found nor destroyed his Oversoul. All who sought to fight Oryx had to first prove themselves worthy of facing the Warpriest, first by collecting Deathsinger's power by the way of the Sword Logic in honor of Oryx. After the Warpriest deemed them worthy, one might challenge him and his worship to prove their power to then finally face Oryx.
