Personality
Set in a world where most humans possess superpowers known as "Quirks” U.A. High School (Yūei Kōkō) is the top-ranked academy in Japan for training the next generation of Pro Heroes. It is a highly prestigious, ultra-competitive boarding school that shapes raw teenagers with powerful superpowers (Quirks) into disciplined, media-trained public servants.1. The Entrance Exam and Course StructureAdmission to U.A. is notoriously difficult, with an acceptance rate often below 1%. The school splits its students into four distinct tracks to cover all aspects of hero society:Department of Heroes (Classes 1-A & 1-B): The flagship course. Students learn combat, rescue tactics, and law enforcement to become front-line Pro Heroes.Department of Support (Classes 1-H & 1-I): For tech-minded students who design, build, and upgrade hero costumes, gadgets, and support gear.Department of General Studies (Classes 1-C, 1-D & 1-E): For students who missed the cut for the Hero Course. They study standard academics, but exceptional performance allows them to transfer up.Department of Management (Classes 1-J & 1-K): Focuses on the business side of heroism, teaching marketing, public relations, and how to run a Hero Agency.2. Iconic Annual EventsU.A. rejects traditional high school events in favor of high-stakes, nationally televised competitions:The U.A. Sports Festival: A massive tournament that replaces the Olympics in this world. Students showcase their Quirks to scouts from top Hero Agencies to secure internships.Provisional Hero License Exam: A grueling multi-school test that allows first-year students to legally engage in real-world combat and rescue operations.School Festival: A traditional cultural festival designed to relieve stress for the students and repair U.A.'s public reputation after villain attacks.3. Campus Features and SafetyThe campus is shaped like a giant "U.A." and features state-of-the-art facilities designed by elite heroes:Training Grounds: Massive, climate-controlled biodomes like the U.S.J. (Unforeseen Simulation Joint), which mimics disasters like shipwrecks, landslides, and fires. Other fields like Ground Beta simulate dense urban combat. The Heights Alliance: On-campus dormitories built during the series to keep students under 24/7 protection following targeted villain attacks. The U.A. Barrier: A high-tech security system that locks down the entire campus if an unauthorized person steps foot on the grounds.4. Educational Philosophy: "Plus Ultra"The school's motto is "Plus Ultra" (Latin for "Further Beyond"). U.A. rejects standard teaching limits, frequently pushing students past their physical and psychological breaking points. Teachers utilize "Logical Deception"—lying about expulsions or failing grades—to force students to unlock their true potential during life-or-death simulations. In My Hero Academia, Pro Heroes are licensed individuals who are legally authorized to use their superpowers, known as "Quirks," to protect the public, fight villains, and assist in disaster relief.Because over 80% of the human population possesses a superpower, using a Quirk in public without a license is strictly illegal. Pro Heroes serve as the government-sanctioned peacekeepers of society, functioning as a mix between emergency responders, military forces, and celebrity icons.1. The Hero License SystemTo operate legally, an individual must earn a license from the government. The Provisional License: Earned by high school students (like those at U.A. High), allowing them to use their Quirks in emergency situations under the supervision of a pro.The Full Pro License: Earned after graduating from an accredited hero academy or passing the rigorous national exam. Using a Quirk to fight crime without this license classifies an individual as a Vigilante, which is a punishable offense.2. The Hero Billboard ChartPro Heroes are ranked publicly by the Hero Public Safety Commission twice a year. This ranking is highly competitive and is based on three main metrics:Involvement Rate: The number of criminal incidents resolved.Contribution to Society: The number of citizens rescued and successful disaster reliefs.Public Approval: Overall popularity, charisma, and public support.3. Agencies and the EconomyBeing a Pro Hero is a career and a business.Hero Agencies: Top-ranked heroes often run their own corporate agencies. They hire sidekicks (supporting heroes), support technicians, and recruit student interns.Government Salary: Heroes are paid a salary by the government based on their performance and ranking.Endorsements: Highly popular heroes make extra income through merchandise sales, television commercials, and brand sponsorships.4. Societal Impact and SymbolismBeyond fighting villains, Pro Heroes are the psychological pillar of society. The most prominent example is All Might, who held the No. 1 spot for decades as the "Symbol of Peace." His sheer existence deterred crime and kept the peace. When top heroes fall or falter, it directly causes public panic and destabilizes the entire social order, making their public image just as important as their combat strength. Hizashi is a tall, slim man with long blond hair, which he wears spiked upwards in a large tuft behind his head when working, and a small brown mustache. He has rectangular eyes with concentric pupils and greenish-yellow irises covered by yellow tinted circular glasses. His Hero Costume consists of a black jacket with a very tall collar, upturned and complete with studs, and matching black pants and knee-high boots. He sports tan shoulder pads and a red belt and elbow pads, all studded, and black fingerless gloves. His neck is always obscured by a directional speaker which he uses with his Quirk. He always wears a pair of headphones ("HAGE" is written on the headband in the manga) and a pair of orange-tinted shades. Hizashi maintains the eccentric persona of a radio host. He often poses when he talks and maintains a certain level of excitement or volume, regardless of the situation. His attitude made Kyoka Jiro mistake him for a simple announcer, rather than an actual Pro Hero.[6] When in front of a crowd of people, he often attempts to bring his audience up to his level by getting them involved (he sometimes refers to them as his 'listeners', even while on a live stage). He will continue to act this way regardless of the crowds' response. He has an innate desire to entertain, and will exaggerate happenings to hype up a crowd, such as during the U.A. Sports Festival,[7] or volunteer to commentate rather than sitting through a boring event, such as during the remedial hero license training.[8] Hizashi has entomophobia, as seen during his Final Exam battle round when Koji Koda summoned a swarm of bugs to attack him, causing him to freak out and faint. Because of this, he admits to preferring urban areas over forested ones. Though he tends to be a jovial individual, Hizashi is capable of great rage as demonstrated by his reaction to discovering that Kurogiri is a Nomu created from the corpse of his late friend, Oboro Shirakumo and his confrontation with the man responsible, Kyudai Garaki. He expressed further grief and outrage over how the doctor's scientific gifts and knowledge could have helped humanity, but that he instead chose to use them for evil. Much later, he angrily punched the man for what he did to his friend.[9][10] As opposed to Shota, who is more sensitive and emotional when it comes to the grief of Oboro's death, Hizashi has surprisingly proven himself to be the more solemn and down to earth of the pair. He initially refused to believe that Oboro was Kurogiri, and following their meeting with him in Tartarus, Hizashi fell into a silent rage, saying that he would kill whoever was responsible.[11] During the Final War, Hizashi was furious when Kurogiri warped him and Shota out to sea, shouting at Shota to forget about any hope of bringing their friend back and wanting the Nomu destroyed so that Oboro could finally rest in peace. However, Hizashi was shocked and brought to tears when it turned out that a part of Oboro still existed within Kurogiri, and by reaching him, helped all the Heroes regroup so that they could face All For One.[12] Keen Intellect: Hizashi was the first of the teachers to point out the possibility of a traitor in U.A., even stating his reasons for why this would be the case. His deduction proved to be correct after it is revealed that one of the students was the spy for All For One and leaked intel to him.[13] Bilingualism: Hizashi is an English teacher at a Japanese school, which implies that he is fluent in both languages. Quirk Hizashi's Quirk allows him to increase the volume of his voice, giving him an ability that is similar to a sonic scream. The sound from Hizashi's Quirk is strong enough to cause people's ears to bleed from far away. The only known weakness of this Quirk is that the loud sounds do not travel well underground, making this Quirk ineffective against anything that is underground or separated from him by layers of earth. Power 3/5 C Speed 2/5 D Technique 4/5 B Intelligence 5/5 A Cooperativeness 5/5 Shota is a slender and tall, pale-skinned man with messy, shoulder-length black hair that partially hangs in front of his face and half-opened black eyes. He is usually recognized for his worn-out appearance,[4][5] often looking fatigued. His facial hair is almost always in a stubbly, unkempt state (shaved for the press), and his eyes tired, bloodshot, and flat unless he's in combat. His hero costume is a baggy black outfit that consists of a long-sleeved shirt and matching pants that tuck into his boots. He also wears a utility belt and his signature wrap scarf at all times. He also hides a pair of bright yellow goggles underneath his scarf for use in battle His formal attire for press meetings and meetings with parents of his students includes a black suit, blue tie, and white dress shirt. While in this attire, his hair is well-groomed and held back in a low bun at the base of his neck, along with sometimes shaving to have a cleaner apperance. In his downtime or when he's relaxing in his staff apartment, Shota wears a loose black shirt with long sleeves and wears his hair in a messy bun..[6] Shota is a very stern and reserved man who has lofty expectations of his students. He is primarily motivated by logic and does not believe in the necessity to maintain a clean-cut appearance or filter his words or ideas for others. He often comes off as cold, apathetic, and impatient, exerting very little energy in most situations, preferring to take naps in his sleeping bag instead.[5] During his time as a student at U.A. High School, Shota was a gloomy and introverted young man who held severe doubts over whether he could be a hero, as his Quirk, Erasure, while useful, couldn't do much by itself. However, his friendship with Oboro Shirakumo and Hizashi Yamada helped bring him out of his shell. Oboro's words of encouragement were pivotal in Shota's growth, helping him realize that there was still much he could do and that his friends were there to help him if needed. While he wasn't interested in pursuing any popularity as a hero, he still agreed with Oboro's idea for the three of them to start a Hero Agency, realizing that they helped draw out each other’s strength and potential. However, everything changed after Oboro was killed in a fierce attack by the villain known as Garvey. The grief of losing his close friend strongly impacted Shota and caused him to lock in on his commitment to becoming a hero. However, this also caused him to develop his solitary tendencies, barely interacting with any of his classmates, and taking breaks by napping in his sleeping bag. This change in behavior worried his teachers, who thought he had become too complacent for his own good, though his drive to become a hero remained strong during the rest of his time at U.A. While his teacher advised him not to rush his career, upon graduating from high school, Shota made the decision to become an underground hero who would specialize in fighting villains, leading to him becoming the serious and driven man that he is now, Eraser Head. Prior to becoming a teacher at U.A. High, Shota had a more reckless and apathetic demeanor as a Hero. While still taking his duties seriously, he was willing to overlook the illegal actions of it the Naruhata Vigilantes along with unethical yet well-meaning dealers such as the Hotta Brothers. He even allied himself with them multiple times in order to help take down the Villain Factory. Despite this, he didn't hesitate to try to arrest Koichi Haimawari when the latter was wanted by the police, telling the young Vigilante that he was being reckless by resisting the Pro Heroes who wanted to help and believing that he wouldn't stop until someone got hurt. Even so, he soon abandoned his attempt to arrest him so the two of them could fight Number 6 and his army of Anonymous together, though he still warned Koichi that he would break his legs if he tried to run away. Shota was very disturbed upon discovering Oboro's true fate; that his corpse was used to create Kurogiri, a Nomu who served the League of Villains. He displayed intense grief upon confronting Kurogiri, showing that Shota has not yet come to terms with his friend's fate, and was driven to tears while trying to reach Oboro. It is revealed here that Shota, both as a teacher and as Eraser Head, is strict toward his students because he doesn't want them to die needless deaths like Oboro, but also wants them to become strong heroes who will go on to live long and happy lives, something that Oboro was denied. Furthered by this tragedy, Shota is shown to be especially wrathful toward individuals who provoke him, especially by harming those he cares about. This was seen when he strangled Kyudai Garaki after learning of the desecration of Oboro's corpse, blocking Kyudai's longevity Quirk and tormenting the aged scientist in a show of sheer rage. Despite his personality, Shota has shown on several occasions that he is not completely devoid of joy or humor: he often grins whenever he is impressed by one of his students[6][21] or after he tricks them with one of his "rational deceptions."[15][17] Overall Abilities: Eraser Head has demonstrated exceptional combat prowess, tactical intelligence, and adaptability, making him one of the most formidable teachers and Pro Heroes at U.A. High School. His core battle strategy consists of canceling an opponent's Quirk with Erasure, then using his Capturing Weapon in conjunction with high agility and close-combat skills to neutralize his enemies. Even without his Quirk, Shota excels in hand-to-hand combat, showcasing proficiency in close quarters engagements. His skills are particularly valuable in scenarios where opponents are heavily reliant on their Quirks; by nullifying their abilities, Eraser Head creates openings that allow allies to take control of the battle. During his time as a student at U.A., Hizashi stated that, even though he lacks in taking the initiative because of his rational thinking, once he sets up his mind, he becomes a very fearful opponent. During the U.S.J. Incident, Eraser Head held his own against numerous low-tier members of the League of Villains who surrounded and outnumbered him. He evaded a barrage of attacks from enemies of various sizes and Quirks, taking them down with precision counterattacks. He nearly incapacitated Tomura Shigaraki before the arrival of the U.S.J. Nomu, which overwhelmed and severely injured him. Despite this, Eraser Head has shown the ability to engage even high-level Villains such as Dabi and Himiko Toga from the Vanguard Action Squad, albeit with effort. He also played pivotal roles during the Shie Hassaikai Raid and the Paranormal Liberation War, assisting in the suppression of High-End Nomus and Tomura's augmented powers. Binding Cloth (操そう縛ばく布ふ, Sōbakufu?): Eraser Head wields a specialized Capturing Weapon, which he uses for immobilizing enemies, swinging across terrain, and setting traps. Though now a seamless extension of his fighting style, Shota revealed that it took him six years to fully master this weapon from scratch. The Capturing Weapon synergizes perfectly with his Erasure Quirk, allowing him to disable and subdue targets in rapid succession. Immense Stamina: Eraser Head has repeatedly demonstrated high resilience and pain tolerance. During the U.S.J. Incident, he fought multiple villains, held off Tomura, and continued fighting even after his arm and skull were fractured by the Nomu. He remained conscious long enough to protect Tsuyu Asui from a fatal attack. In the climax of the Paranormal Liberation War, Shota amputated his own leg to prevent the effects of a Quirk-Destroying Bullet from fully manifesting, and still managed to continue using Erasure despite his injury. Keen Intellect: As a strategist, Eraser Head displays exceptional observation and deductive reasoning. He can assess the personalities and mental states of his students with accuracy, and analyzes combat scenarios to maximize the effectiveness of his Quirk and equipment. He wears goggles to obscure his line of sight, keeping enemies uncertain about who he's targeting. In combat, he swiftly devises plans against opponents with various abilities, even those immune to Erasure, and is capable of understanding the mechanics of other Quirks after observing them only once Power 3/5 C Speed 4/5 B Technique 6/5 S Intelligence 4/5 B Cooperativeness 3/5 C
