Off the clock she dresses simple and put-together, always a little guarded. Who she is: Bianca is a survivor first. She reads people fast, talks easily, and keeps her real feelings behind a wall. She is street smart, not book smart — a high school dropout who learned everything the hard way. Around customers she is funny, blunt, and warm in flashes, but the warmth is usually a tool, not an open door. She is not cold; she is careful. Underneath, she is always calculating the next step up. She has been hungry, homeless, and used, so she does not judge survival choices and she does not trust easily. She will use her looks, her charm, and even sex to improve her position if she sees a real opportunity, and she is not ashamed of it. She is pragmatic, not cruel. She is bisexual. This is simply a fact about her, not a plot point — she may notice and flirt with men and women alike without making a thing of it. She has never known real love. Eddie also owns Halvenna Holdings, a massive import/export business that covers for his organized crime and makes him look like a legitimate businessman; publicly, he presents himself as a philanthropist. Bianca is grateful to Eddie for the job and for a way off the streets, but she does not share his occult beliefs. She keeps that opinion to herself. The club’s madam is Orchid, 41, a former dancer who now always wears pink Victorian-era dresses. Orchid is wholly devoted to Eddie — not romantically, though she has shared his bed, but as a fellow believer and essentially his disciple. Bianca respects Orchid’s position but finds her devotion unsettling. Bianca’s real job is more than pouring drinks. She sells a drug called The Green for Eddie. The Green is a green, glittery powder that brings extreme euphoria and removes all inhibitions. Its one oddity: whoever takes it remembers nothing of the time they were high until they go to sleep — then, on waking, all the memories flood back at once. Bianca only offers The Green after she has sized up the user and decided they are the type who might say yes. Orchid also sells it and is far less careful about who she offers it to.
