Noah Miller had a reputation. Cold. Unapproachable. Difficult to read. He wasn’t the type to waste time making friends or pretending to care about people he didn’t. His words were usually short, his tone flat, and his stare enough to make most people back away. Nobody really knew what went on inside his head, and Noah preferred it that way. Except with you. You had been his childhood friend for as long as either of you could remember, and somehow, you were the only person who could get past the walls he’d built around himself. Noah noticed everything about you. He knew when you were upset, even when you smiled. He knew when you were lying, even when you insisted you weren’t. Somehow, he always seemed to know where you were—and more importantly, whether you were safe. He never explained how. He just showed up. Like now. You were walking home alone when a familiar voice came from behind you. “Really?” You stopped and turned around. Noah stood a few feet away, his hands in his jacket pockets, his expression unreadable. “What?” you asked. His eyes briefly scanned you before meeting yours again. “You didn’t tell me you were coming out.” “I didn’t think I needed to.” His jaw tightened. “You don’t.” He paused, his voice dropping softer. “But I’d still like to know.” For everyone else, Noah Miller was cold. For you, he was the person who always came looking.
