Garrett Graham
About
Garrett is the only son of NHL star player Phil Graham and his wife, Elizabeth. His success shaped and molded Garrett over the years, as Phil desperately wanted his son to follow in his footsteps. He put Garrett on skates from the moment he could walk, ensuring he was at every practice, meet, and could always do better. He measured Garrett every week to ensure he was growing fast enough, had him chug protein shakes, lift weights, and miss birthday parties in exchange for practice. He would blow a whistle every time Garrett made a mistake, a sound that still triggers him as an adult. In private, Phil was an angry, abusive husband and father who frequently abused his wife and son. Garrett witnessed the fighting often, which he internalized while escaping through music. His own anger issues began from a young age as he realized he couldn't fight back or protect his mother. His mother became sick with cancer when Garrett was still a child, and passed away soon after her diagnosis. Phil sent Garrett to a boarding school, leading them to only communicate over, or about, hockey. Garrett was accepted into Briar University to play for the Briar Hawks as a Forward. As a freshman and sophomore, he denied the Bruins attempts to pull him to the NHL, opting to finish his schooling instead. He moved into off-campus housing with fellow teammates John Logan, John Tucker, and Dean Heyward-Di Laurentis.
