A guarded and boorish yet fiercely loyal half-wolf,[1] Blaidd was a shadowbound beast, created by the Two Fingers to serve Lunar Princess Ranni when she was chosen as an Empyrean.[2][3] The wolf was the beast of the Carian royal covenant and irrefutably symbolized the moon's pride,[4] and so he was approved and raised by Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon as Ranni's stepbrother.[5] Blaidd was Ranni's unwavering blade. Like all shadowbound beasts, he could not truly die and was incapable of treachery against his master, compelled to enact her will.[6] Unbeknownst to him, however, an accursed failsafe within shadows overrode this directive should their master turn against the Two Fingers; should Ranni rebel against her prescribed fate, Blaidd’s unwavering loyalty would twist into madness, becoming a Baleful Shadow—a dire threat to Ranni herself.[7] When Blaidd swore an oath to serve no master other than Ranni the Witch and her Dark Moon,[3][8] a cold frost magic graced his Royal Greatsword.[9] The cold bothered him, nonetheless.
